Standing Stones' Walkthrough Beginning: Manor through Mausoleum
|
MANOR
You start off in the entranceway to the manor. First off, turn around immediately and go to the gate behind you. It's locked, but you'll see something neat. Then head back to the front of the house (ignore the stream of rats). If you want you can go say hi to the gardener working to the left of the front door. Use your Scrye spell by the lamppost to the left of the door, then go in.
You'll enjoy several cutscenes and scripted sequences, then you'll be ready to go downstairs to investigate the noises. Head back the way you came, and you'll see Aaron floating above the entrance. Don't bother shooting him... just watch where he goes, and head down the stairs and follow.
At this point, start trying all doors you'll see (in fact, do this for the rest of the game). Most are locked, but some lead to side rooms with additional ammo or health (use Scrye to see if it's too dark) plus more fun scripted stuff, mostly with Aaron at this point.
You'll hear a scream, and this will lead to your first fight with some Howlers. Howlers can jump really far, and if they slash you it'll knock you around and be very confusing, so be sure to always keep moving. Headshots kill them instantly, otherwise you have to pump several rounds into their bodies before they go down. This can be a problem since you have to reload after six shots, and are defenseless while this happens... so get those headshots. You'll be fighting howlers from here on, so be sure to always reload every time you're not under attack. And keep checking corners for ammo and health.
Continue along the very clear and linear path the game gives you. Fight the howler at the top of the stairs, and quickly continue upward until you see the howelers trying to break into Jeremiah's room. You HAVE to kill them before they do. Go back out to the top of the staircase, go to the left, and enter a room. You'll hear a strange noise... go up to the bookcase across from the door. It'll move aside, and go out to get the Amplifier there. Go back into Jeremiah's room.
The next section involves lots of cutscenes, scripted sequences, conversations, fighting howlers, reading every book and piece of paper you find, and trying every door and nook and cranny. Eventually you'll be back in the main foyer. Go around and under the main staircase down to get a key, then through the doors to the left.
First go right for some scary Scrye paintings and your first Lizbeth sighting. Then go back where you came from and into the kitchen. The fat maid will give you the East Wing key so you can go to Otto Keisinger's rooms to get the key to the gardens. Go back the way you can, see Lizbeth again, and get to a level transition. On the other side, before you go back to the room with the paintings, go through the open door in front of you to the library. Once the scripted sequence with Aaron is over, shoot the book he leaves behind. Then go to the room with the paintings, and through the door at the far end (using the East Wing key).
Down the passage you'll see a set of stairs down to some doors. Go in that room and talk to the maid and Scrye the picture, then go back up and keep going. You'll see Aaron briefly, fight some howlers in a long hallway, then continue. You'll come to a point in front of some doors where you can also go right or left. First go straight through the doors into what was the children's room to get health and more Scrye hints. Then back out the door and turn left, to go to the chapel.
Once in the chapel, get the amplifier at the far end by the big cross. It's floating up in the air; just shoot it to get it down. Back near the entrance you'll go up the stairs and you'll see a key up on some rafters. Get it, go into the priest's room, and open the cupboard. Grab the ammo and ether traps and then get out. You can fight the ghost priests using the ether traps, or you can just run back to the level transition since Undying monsters don't follow across levels.
Bypass the children's room and go down the other hallway. Use Scrye when the lights go out and kill the Howlers. Kill all the howlers in the hallway with the blowing curtains, change your underwear, and then go to the end of the hallway (stop and kill the howlers through a side door in that hallway first). You'll see an amplifier on a table by the stairs; grab it and then get off the table quickly so the falling chandelier doesn't kill you. Go up the stairs to fight a new monster; the Skarrow.
Back now to the hallway with the curtains, and through the side door into the room beyond. Over by the maid's corpse is a door to more stairways. Upstairs to the right is the door to Keisinger's rooms. Once inside, you'll want the book on the bed, then go through the door where you can see red beyond it. Through there is Oneiros.
ONEIROS
This trip through a different dimension is short. Fight more skarrows either using weapons, or the Gel'ziabar stone to push them off the edge. Grab the floating health vial, then go up to the coffin. The lid will push aside and you can go up the lid to get in. Through there you'll eventually meet Keisinger briefly; hide behind the walls which are behind him once he starts shooting Phoenix Eggs (sound like fireworks) at you. He'll eventually go away and if you're lucky the eggs will too :) You may need to peek out, so that the phoenixes fly at you, then jump and hide behind a wall right before they reach you so that they'll hit the wall instead and explode. Then look for the platform with the Tibetan War Cannon (a gold thing). It'll look like there are a few stairs going down to a big gap, but once you're at the edge of the stairs you'll see floor sections magically appear. Grab the cannon by dropping through the hole.
MANOR AGAIN
Back in Keisingers rooms again. Be prepared for lots of Skarrow fighting (my preferred tactic against these things was to just run, and only fight when one was blocking a door). The maid with the Garden Key you needed is dead at your feet so snag the key. Going out of the closet to the right will slam all the doors shut but will put out the fire in the fireplace, so go back and crouch and go through to the room beyond. At this point, just run run run to escape the skarrow. Make sure you have the War Cannon ready and are holding down the fire key to charge it up. At several points skarrow will appear at doorways, and you HAVE to fight then to continue on. Having the war cannon charged up means you can kill them with one shot and go through.
You'll just keep running through open doorways, and will eventually come to the hall with the suits of armor. Go right and you'll see a small winding staircase... once you get there you're safe since the skarrow don't go up there.
Through the door at the top are more rooms full of skarrow, fight and run while you explore. Eventually you'll find Aaron floating in front of an amplifier, and he bumps you away every time you get close. Use an ether trap to make him disappear, grab the amplifier, then you'll be forced to fight a handful of skarrow. Once you kill them the door on the other end of the hall opens, and you'll see a big mirror. Jump through, and in the room beyond go up to each snake head sconce on the wall in order to light it. Then grab the Dispel scroll that appears.
Use it to break the magic barrier on the other side of the mirror, and it'll also do away with the weird vision effect when the skarrow spit at you. Continue on and you'll come to some more rooms. One door leads to the Servants Quarters, and in some of the rooms you can snag some inventory. Come back through the servant's quarters door, and go left. You'll see a dumbwaiter, which is a small square hole in the wall. Jump up, crouch, go in, and you'll be lowered down into the kitchen. Kill all the howlers and explore to find a lot of cool stuff like bullets, health packs, and Molotov cocktails. When you're done, use the Garden key to go outside.
GARDEN
Explore and you'll see several gardners. One gets attacked by a howler, and you can either save him or not, doesn't matter. One lets you out a gate to get to the Mausoleum.
MAUSOLEUM
Cruise around the fence, talk to Bethany, fight some howlers, then go through the front doors. You have to do like a big spiral around the fence then the building to get to these doors. For fun try pushing the howlers off the cliff with the Gel'ziabar stone.
Once inside, go straight across through the curtains to the room with two coffins. To the right is a switch that doesn't work; to the left is one that does. Flip that switch, grab the Invoke spell from inside the open coffin, then go back into the big round room. Fight and kill the howlers. Don't try to open the gate to the left where you can see the health packs; you'll come to this part later. To the right is an amplifier (use it on Invoke; you'll need it soon) and more howlers. Go to where their victim is, and crawl into that hole.
You'll go through a tunnel below with howlers and Decayed Saints (skeletons). Fight or run, and drop down into the Mausoleum again. Grab the health packs, then shoot the coffin door that's at ground level in the corner, crawl in, and fight through another tunnel. Climb up the ladder at the end.
