- Introduction
In many ways, killing is tied in with movement, and it's vital, since it's
the point of the entire game! The method by which you kill your
enemies will change, based on the situation you are in, and on your style.
However, there are many basic points to be made.
Firstly, make sure that you are comfortable with the control keys, and
are able to quickly select weapons, reload, holster, drop weapons,
sneak and lean. These are vital to your success. Secondly, make sure you
have the place cased out. Try not to kill people randomly - make sure
that there is no one else hanging about, and if there is, that they
are preferably out of earshot, but definitely out of vision. Dropping
someone when a passer-by ambles past is never a good idea!
- Silent Kill
Ideally, you should aim to drop your enemy silently, so the best tool
is the piano wire. Two people can be five feet from each other, and you
should be able to drop one without the other hearing. To do this, you
should get behind them target, and make sure you are in sneak mode.
Get close behind them, get out the piano wire, and strangle them. They
will drop to the floor, and you can make off with out anyone knowing any
better.
- Nearly Silent Kill
The slient kill isn't always possible, so you should probably also get
used to shooting people! Always go for a head shot. With any weapon,
a direct headshot is fatal, and kills enemies quickly and with little
fuss. It's also vital when coming up against highly armoured enemies.
In highly populated levels, it is most likely that you will not want to
cause too much attention, so you will probably be using the slienced
Beretta as your weapon of choice.
There are two main points to be brought up here. Don't be seen by the
target, and don't be seen by anyone else. If no one actually sees you
shooting the target, and you holster your weapon before they do see
you, you will get away... with murder! Usually, however, the main problem
is being seen by the target. There are a number of tactics which can be
used here. Try to shoot them from behind. Try to hide behind an
occlusion (e.g. a wall), lean out, and shoot them. The wall should hide
you.
Failing this, you should pull the gun on them, and fill them with holes
before they get a chance to fire a shot. If they do manage to fire, it
alerts all the guards in the vicinity (wheras a shout only alerts very
few).
There is also a lean function which many people do not use. If you
double tap the lean key, you will lean/step out from behind the occluder.
Handy for popping out, shooting people, and vanishing again.
- Sod Silence
Sometimes, you simply need to drop as many people as possible in as
short a time as possible. Here, a mixture of semi-autos and assault
rifles becomes extremely useful. With these, you can fill many bodies full
of lead with very little effort. The downside is that this will alert
everyone nearby. But as long as you are aware of this, it can still be
a very useful tactic, especially when either out-numbered or on-the-run
(where silence may not be as useful as a lot of dead enemies).
It's
also useful at getting rid of two-man patrols which are out of sight of
other people (since you will have enough time to drop your weapon and
walk away).
It's often very useful to try to line people up when using this method.
This will save the need to aim to much, and result in a faster kill.
Also, it is even more deadly if you can bottleneck the people (e.g. in a
doorway).
- Sniping
You don't get a great many chances to snipe in the game, but when you
do, it's very satisfying. However, there are a few warnings. Sniper
rifles are useless at short range, so make sure your vicinity is free of
goons. You may only get one chance to get the shot in, so make sure it
counts - don't start randomly firing off shots and hope you hit the
target - it won't work.
Finally, although the 'Blaser' is stupildy useful (because of it's
case), it's breach loading (you need to reload after every shot), so you
really need to make the shot count.
Despite this, it's a very good way of getting rid of enemies, since
it's often very easy to just walk off and 'deny all knowledge'!
- Hide the Body
Get rid of the evidence. Not only can a dead body be upsetting, but it
can alert guards to your presence. On sight, a guard becomes extremely
agitated from dead bodies, and runs up to check them out (often a
perfect chance to get rid of them!). However, although this may not seem
like too much of a problem, it generally causes fewer problems if you
hide the bodies. Also, if you plan on taking their clothes, make sure the
body is well out of sight. As soon as a naked body is uncovered, it
makes your disguise almost useless, since it greatly increases the
chance that you'll be shot at by guards whether you've done anything or
not. So, before killing someone, make sure you can hide their body away
somewhere (if need be) before you pull the trigger.
- Last Note
With any of these kill styles, the best advice is to holster/drop your
weapon, and leave the area quickly - don't wait and fill the bodies
full of bullets (despite the fact that it is really good fun!)
