The Mario Bros, Mario and Luigi, are both fighting against you.
However, you also get a partner (chosen at random).
Something you need to know about these partner pairings is that the computer gives you an ally based on your total point score.
If you have a high point total, you get a crappy partner (like Jigglypuff or Pikachu).
If you had a bad day and your points were not that great, you get a really good partner (like Link or Fox).
Anyway, the Mario Bros work great as a team.
If they are standing together, they will both shoot fireballs at you.
Or one of them will shoot a fireball and the other will attack.
You should keep in mind that your computer ally is not a great fighter and the only advantage to having one is that the Mario Bros will try to fight you two simultaneously (rather than two people against one).

| Strategy |

Do not try to fight both the brothers at the same time.
Instead, try hitting one away temporarily (for example Luigi) and fight the other (Mario).
Then when you see Luigi is coming back, hit Mario away and fight Luigi.
Do this for a while until you get them both out.
(If you can, try to keep your ally alive so you can get more points.)
