F-Zero: GP Legend | E3 News
Wednesday, June 2nd:
While not E3-related, this is important nonetheless. A few people must
have gotten their hands on the European version of F-Zero: GP Legend
early. Valem Vars, a frequent contributor to the site, has sent in four
screenshots showing four pilots/machines that were only available via
e-Cards in the Japanese release. As of now, the details on how to go about
unlocking these characters is unknown, and it's still a mystery if the
other e-Card tracks/staff ghosts have made it into the game.
Here are the screenshots:

Here's are links to previews of F-Zero: GL Legend... between the new Zelda
and the Nintendo DS, not many GBA sites are getting around to this thus
far. Please note that E3 previews often are often filled with incorrect
information (I've read one that stated F-Zero MV was a port of the SNES
F-Zero, and another one got a few details wrong).

Update Wensday, May 12th
Here's an overall look at F-Zero: GP Legend, as shamelessly ripped from a
Nintendo press book:
Game
Storyline: The year is 2201. The human race has ventured out into the
universe, and the development of a civilization based on science is
flourishing. However, the gap between the rich and the poor is larger than
ever before, and evil -- as well as corruption -- is ever present. Amidst
all of this, one thing still has the power to excite one and all: the
ultra-high-speed F-Zero Grand Prix races, which take place on specially
constructed circuit tracks located all over the universe.
Pilots manning the futuristic race
machines -- which sprint at mind-numbing speeds -- come from all over the
universe hoping to claim honor and gigantic sums of prize money. Among
these pilots, there are two that have recently been gaining in popularity.
They are Rick Wheeler, a new face on the F-Zero circuit, and Captain
Falcon, the man behind the mysterious mask. Many have heard of Falcon's
exploits, but few know Rick Wheeler's background. Soon, on the racetracks
of the F-Zero circuit, these two will become embroiled in a sinister
plot...
Characters: Captain Falcon, Rick
Wheeler, Black Shadow, Zoda, Jody Summer, Samurai Goroh, Dr. Stewart, Jack
Levin and many others.
How to progress through the game:
Defeat increasingly difficult Grand Prix circuits to open others, or play
through Story mode to watch the plot unfold. As you overcome the racing
challenges of each character in Story mode, other characters' plot lines
will become available.
Special powers/weapons/moves/features:
As with all F-Zero games, you can use a speed boost after the first lap of
a race at the expense of your Energy Meter, which you can replenish by
driving over Pit Areas. You can also ride over Jump Plates to launch into
the air and double-tap the L or R Button to bash into opposing racers.
UPDATE LATE TUESDAY NIGHT
It appears that Rick Wheeler is the new name given to the main character
in F-Zero: GP Legend. Here's video of the English version:

Here's the link to Nintendo's E3 2004 site for F-Zero: GP Legend (which
I guess is now the real title?):
http://www.nintendo.com/gamemini?gameid=178199cf-5241-4654-a052-c692df9eaf13
From the web site, it looks as if the
e-Reader functions are being left out for the North American release.
Other than that, not much appears to have changed. It's unknown at this
time whether the e-Reader extras will be built-in to the game or not.
Also of note, the Nintendo game page says
"A cutthroat cyber-chaser that parallels the upcoming TV series!" So I
assume the anime series is coming to America.

This GameCube Europe story (http://www.cube-europe.com/news.php?nid=6407)
confirms that F-Zero 2 will be shown at this year's E3. Of course, we knew
this all along, but it looks like this list is sticking to the "F-Zero 2"
name, at least. I honestly don't know how long that'll be around though.
Stay tuned for more updates.
While not an E3 update, the new GBA
commercial entitled "Freeboy" shows two F-Zero racers.
