Brothers of Smash (Online)
Purpose:
This is an attempt to recreate super smash brothers on the computer, but due to copyrights the name and character names are not and will not be the same. Although the character forms and actions may resemble SSB. They are not the same. The look and feel and pretty much every aspect of the game will be similar to SSB. Portions from both the original game on N64 and the game on NGC will be used. The levels will all be similar with a few changes, along with some new add-ons. Characters will also all be similar with a few changes, along with some new add-ons. The game will most likely consist of all the levels, characters, items, and game play types. Of course this is subject to change.
Additions:
(There will be many new additions to the game witch is the major purpose of recreating it.) They are as follows:
Online play:
You will now be able to play against players all over the world. The max amount of players per game will range any where from 8-16.
New Characters:
New characters will be added to add to the game play, with new additions being added as time progresses.
New Levels:
New levels will be added to add to the game play, with new additions being added as time progresses.
New Game Play Types:
New game play types will be added. (Tag or King of the hill.)
New Items:
New items will be added to add to game play.
(Please note: That though these editions sound good in theory, the purpose is to recreate SSB, which means if the editions take away from game play, or the fun of the game they will be left out.)
Characters:
Expect all characters from the game, along with new add-ons. All the moves and hit percentages will be recreated to be as similar as possible, with the possibility of new moves to be added. (Please note: With the addition of new moves it might take away from the feel of the character, so some may not have added moves.)
Levels:
Expect all levels from both games, along will added levels. Also due to the fact that there will be more players per level, the level sizes could change to accommodate for that. So in essence you will get a good group of large and small levels.
Game play:
The game play will be exactly the same, with percentage starting at 0. Then as you are attacked, you gain percentage. The higher percentage, the further you are hit. Eventually you are knocked off the map and can't return. Online play is one of the major focuses of this game. Sense Nintendo is so against online play. We want to be able to play against 8-16 players at a time with out bots, although a bot feature will be most likely added. Also players will still be able to play against others on the same computer. On a single computer the max amount of players will most likely not differ from the games total max amount of players, but it seems like it would be difficult to play on the same computer with 8-16 people. If there are multiple players on one computer, and multiple on another, they will still be able to play each other. Not only will this part of the game, it is encouraged when playing on teams.
Game types:
(Expect all the same game play types that are in SSB with some add-ons.)
The add-ons will most likely be as follows:
King of the hill:
Players will fight for the highest point on the map for a given time who ever is on the top for the longest amount of time gets the most points and wins. If you die you will lose points.
Tag:
Starts out as a normal fight, but the first person to die becomes it, he must kill someone to make them it. Who ever is it the least amount wins.
CTF:
Due to the largess of some of the maps, a flag will be at each end. Players must capture it and bring it to there flag to gain a point. Who ever has the most points wins. (If you do not think this is possible. Think of Hyrule Castle. Then picture a flag on each end of the level. There is a large amount of space between each flag.)
Others:
Other ideas could and most likely will be added.
Controls:
This will be one of the only downside. The keyboard and mouse are not ideal for this type of game. Although we will allow for the keyboard to be used it is not recommended. We will include support for any type of controller for the game that you would like to use. We will also include a way to map the controller buttons to the characters moves like in the Nintendo versions.
The Team:
This mod is in need of programmers, mappers, modelers, animation artists, and texture artists. The mod will most likely be based off of the unreal 2 engine, but if the team would like, it could be moved to a new engine (Like the half-life engine though it is very old, most people have and play that game.). It will all depend on the team members, and what they think would be the best environment would be. If you think you can fill one of the following areas, please contact us.
Open Areas:
(For all areas, please send in pervious work that you have done.)
Programmer:
We would like to get the programmers first, that way we will know which game environment we will be working in.
Mapper:
These maps will be fairly simplistic. If you have played SSB, then you know these maps will not take a lot to build, but you will need skill to do it.
Modeler:
You should be able to model in 3dStudioMax, and be able to recreate the SSMB characters.
Animation Artists:
One would need to lean the moves/actions of the characters and recreate them. We want the characters to feel the same as the original games.
Texture Artists:
We want this game to look good if not better then the original games. We want to recreate what the levels and characters look like.
