Story

G'Day Mate! Things can be a bit disorienting here in the land down under, so let me remind you of who you are and what you're doing here.

You are TY, one of the last of the Tasmanian Tigers---or so you think. Raised by a family of Bilbies-- what's a Bilby you ask? I'll cover everything in good time, young 'un. As I was saying, you have only vague memories of your family and friends. You've always believed that the other Tazzy Tigers died long ago, leaving you all alone.

But then one day (by chance, some would say, but I say it's fate) you met the Bunyip Elder, and this strange character told you that your family is still alive! But, they're trapped in the otherworldly realm of the Dreamtime. Now don't get so upset, they're not stuck there forever. Or at least they needn't be...if you can save them.

For deep in the Austrailian outback there's a rocky outcrop, and this rocky outcrop is the portal-- that's a doorway, my young cobber--to this day Dreamtime realm. Carved into the ground on this outcrop is an image of the Tasmanian Tiger family, and surrounding that are five sockets in which ancient magical Talismans once lay. All you have to do is find these Talismans and place them in the sockets, and the portal to the Dreamtime realm will open.

Now don't go running off just yet, you little larrikin! I've not told you the bad news. you see, these Talismans have also caught the eye of an evil cassoway by the name of Boss Cass. Yes, that Boss Cass-- the same one who trapped your family in the Dreamtime realm after they defeated him in battle many moons ago. What's worse, he's also locked up some of your Bilby family cages across the outback. If you want to open the portal to the Dreamtime realm and rescue your family and friends, you must face Boss Cass and all the nasty henchmen he'll send your way.

Don't worry, mate, you won't be alone. An upstanding lad like yourself will always have friends to help him out along the way--including me, your old mate Maurie.

Now get out there and find those Talismans!

Friends

TY

TY:
TY is a Tasmanian Tiger. Armed with his trusty boomerangs and his bare teeth, TY is on a quest to find his long lost family. Only one person stands in his way: collector of all things shiny... the evil Boss Cass.

Maurie:
Maurie is TY's best and oldest friend. He's a Sulphur Crested Cockatoo who tends to ramble on a bit but is full of words of wisdom. You'll find Maurie popping up throughout the game with some valuable information for TY.

Maurie

Julius

Julius:
Julius is a wise, if slightly eccentric, professor that helps TY with his boomerang needs. He's usually found working in his small shack or playing with a new invention. When TY collects enough opals and or 'Golden Cogs', Julius will give him a new type of boomerang with a specific purpose in the game.

Rex:
Rex is a Platypus. Rex is also a lifesaver. He was born to swim. Literally. Although Tasmanian Tigers are notoriously bad swimmers Rex has a little something that just might help TY get over his fear of water.
  Rex

Dennis

Dennis:
Dennis the cheapskate...uh...Green Tree Frog...is an old friend of Maurie's who is the proud owner of the biggest Thunder Egg collection this side of the Black Stump. Though he denies it, he is absolutely terrified of the dark, things that go bump in the night and....well...pretty much anything really.

Shazza:
Shazza the dingo is a real country girl, sleeves always rolled up and hands always dirty from work. She's the proud owner of a Health Farm for out of shape emus, situated in the middle of the outback near the town of Dusty Burrows. Normally sure of himself, TY gets a bit tongue-tied when Shazza is around.

Shazza

Ranger Ken

Ranger Ken:
It would be hard to find a more loyal mate than Ken. Big, Strong and loud, he's always on hand to help out the little guy and preserve the environment.

The Bilbies:
The Bilbies look meek, but they're strong in character. They took TY in when he was just a wee orphan and raised him to be the good bloke he is today. Now's TY's chance to repay them by freeing them from Boss Cass' crude cages.

The Bilbies

The Bunyip Elder:
Most folks don't even believe in the Bunyips, those weird creatures that are said to be half beast, half spirit. The Bunyip Elder helps you along the way with information on the Talismans.

Foes

Boss Cass

Boss Cass:
Boss Cass is a ruthless collector of all things shiny. He's infamous as the first non-magpie to be elected Boss of the International League of Kleptomaniacs (Down Under Chapter). His greed knows no limits and his latest coup has been the stealing of the sacred Talismans that control the portal to Dreamtime.

Bull:
No one messes with Bull the Razorback. A towering giant of muscle and sinew, he's a misunderstood bush pig that just wants to be left alone. But all that's about to change when TY the Tasmanian Tiger comes into his life. Perhaps there's more to Bull than his seething bad temper and his gruff exterior?
  Bull

Neddy

Neddy:
Li'l neddy is as stupid as he is big. Rumor has it that he so ugly that he wears a metal mask so that he doesn't scare himself when he looks in a mirror. His biggest regret in life is the embarrassing tattoo that he had done on his belly.

Crikey:
Once he was King of the Coral Reefs, but now this poor tiger shark is a cybernetic pawn of Boss Cass. The armour he wears controls his every action, making him attack all that come near, but even cybernetics cannot overcome the power of a feeding frenzy.

Crikey

Fluffy

Fluffy:
Fluffy is a 50-foot tall yeti that lives high up in the Snowy Mountains. It doesn't take too kindly to strangers but does enjoy clobbering them into the deep snow if they happen by. Under Fluffy's furry warm exterior is a cold hard interior that hides a shocking secret...

Shadow:
One of Boss Cass' most feared thugs. She's ill tempered, bad mannered and hates having her beauty sleep interrupted. Given her looks, this must happen a lot.

Shadow
?

?:
Who is this shadowy figure? Word is he's Cass' right hand man. I'd be careful if I were you TY, he looks like he might be danerous!

Boomerangs

The Boomerang
Boomerang:
This is your basic ancient gum tree model. No bells and whistles, just a good, reliable boomerang--and mighty effective in the paws of the right Tazzy Tiger.

Double Boomerang:
This is Boomerang Variation #1. Once aquired in the level Two Up, it doubles all the boomerangs you collect. Not only will a second boomerang allow you to throw two boomerangs instead of one it will help the other boomerang is also what helps you glide through the air and swim with ease under water!
  The Double Boomerang

The Lassorang
Lassorang:
This is Boomerang Variation #2. In the level Outback Safari TY pulls out this version of the Boomerang and uses it on the back of Bull to collect emu's, bring down water towers and not to mention, take care of the baddies on their Motorcycles!

Aquarang:
This is the only 'rang that you can use underwater. Its hydrodynamic design lets it slice through the water like a normal boomerang flies through the air. Use a pair of these as fins and you yourself can zip through the deep blue like a greased-up platypus.
  The Aquarang

The Zoomerang
Zoomerang:
This little beaut lets you do some long-distance 'ranging. But here's the best part. When you switch to TY's view, everything may look normal now, but as you touch the C stick forward and back, you see you have a built in telescope aimer! Bonza!

Flamerang:
Heat things up with a 'rang 'o fire! Naturally they can cut through ice, but I've heard that they're also great for burning through sticky spider webs.
  The Flamerang

The Multirang
Multirang:
What this boomerang lacks in quality it makes up for in quantity. Although it may not travel as far or as fast as other 'rangs, you can unleash a while flurry of them at once. Boss Cass' Henchmen would have to be pretty quick to escape that barrage.

Infrarang:
This boomerang lets you see as well as a wedge-tailed eagle. Lsten carefully when you're holding this 'rang. It has a built in sonar that beeps if ther's anything "special" close by. Just switch to TY's view and you'll see things you normally couldn't see as well.
  The Infrarang

The Frostyrang
Frostyrang:
This 'rang doesn't pack a lot of punch, but it's a great strategic weapon. How's that, you say? You can use it to freeze enemies that are otherwise inpervious to boomerangs, then move in and give 'em a good chomp!

Zappyrang:
The power of lightning in contained within this electrifying boomerang. Use it when you want to give your enemies, or perhaps a piece of machinery, a supercharged jolt.
  The Zappyrang

The Megarang
Megarang:
Julius really outdid himself on this one. This crafty lil' 'rang can actually recognize bad guys and crates. It homes in on them and delivers a bull's-eye knockout punch. Those bad guys will think the 'rang had their name on it--and they won't be far off the mark!

Kaboomarang:
This 'rang is made from the rare Outback element Exploderium, which is just as spectacular as it sounds. Launch one of these rippers and watch the fireworks!
  The Kaboomrang

The Chronorang
Chronorang:
Put the bad guys in a time warp! this is a great weapon to use on baddies that are imperbious to other 'rangs. Hit them with a Chronorang and watch them move as slowly as a koala in quicksand. Then, move in for a bite.

Doomarang:
The Doomarang is only available in teh Final Battle, and boy, are you going to need it! Just launch this seeing-eye 'rang and guide it by remote control to those hard-to-reach places. Boss Cass won't know what hit him!
  The Doomarang

Slys' Boomerang
Mysterious Boomerang:
We don't know a lot about this rang because it belongs to that Shadowy Figure I mention above. Since he's working for Cass, you'd better watch your back; you'll never know when he'll jump in with these deadly boomerangs and attack!

Rex And The Seahorse Speak Foreign
If you go into the level Ship Rex and talk to Rex, he'll teach you how to swim and have you swim to retreive the aquarangs. Once you get both of these down, he'll tell you to be on your way to find Elle, whom he hasn't seen for a little while and is getting worried about her. He has his friend The Seahorse, who is a seahorse, lead the way to her.

Now before you go on your adventure, go and talk to Rex again. He will then talk about Elle again and as his last sentence starts, you'll notice that he is speaking in another language!

Once you jump in the water and follow The Seahorse, she'll explain some of the dangers to you. As you come up to the Shark spot, she will tell you how to enter the Shark Cages, however she is also talking in another language!

Opal Glitch
This certain, very annoying Glitch happened to me twice in the game. Once in Ship Rex and once in Snow Worries. Well as I was playing these levels, it seemed as though I had collected all the Opals. I looked around the whole levels about two or three times and could not find any traces of another opal.

All of a sudden as I'm walking around my opal score comes up and counts from where it was up to 300. I was stunned, to say the least due to the fact that I had spent another half hour of my time looking for more Opals, when I had already collected them all. The game just didn't know.

I think what happened was I collected the Opals too fast. As you collect Opals, the game counts them one by one at the top right hand part of the screen. I think I may have pick up a few of the gathered crate Opals too quickly and the game probably skipped over some of them.

So if you're playing TY and this happens to you, just remember to collect each Opal one by one as it counts them. I know this is a very big annoyance and should not even exist. Hopefully Krome will fix it in TY:2.

Stuck on Bilbies?
When saving Bilbies, everyone knows that you need to bite the cage to free them. With that said, did you know it was possible to get stuck biting the cage?

If you approach the cage and do the jump-bite attack with TY, there are some instances where TY will get stuck on top of the Bilby while it's doing its little freedom dance! You can just move TY off of the Bilby, so you're not exactly stuck, but if you don't move TY he will stay on top of the Bilby finishes their freedom dance.

If you want to try this out, make sure you're as close to the cage as possible, then jump straight up or a little over the cage and then do your bite attack. This will not work with every Bilby in the game.
