My thought process behind CAL Designs was to have the site be more than just a gallery to display the work I've done. When I first started simulation racing, I wanted a scheme that was uniquely mine right off the bat. Luckily I had the time to invest to learn how to paint a scheme, but a lot of people don't. Or if they do, they don't know where to start. I'll try to solve the "where to start" portion of that equation on the Tools and Tips page, but would like to use this space to open up an avenue for those of you who wish to request their own scheme.

Now before I get into what I require from you to paint a scheme, let me get a disclaimer out of the way. Painting schemes is a hobby for me and one of many I enjoy. So if you request a scheme and I respond that I don't have time to do it, I hope you'll understand. With that said, also understand that I'm a thorough painter and an average scheme normally takes me between 6 to 8 hours to complete. So when I take on a scheme, I like to know the time I spend working on it is worthwhile and appreciated.

Now, by worthwhile I'm not saying you need to take pictures of my scheme to wrap up and send to all your family and neighbors - which would be fine if you really want <BG>. But I would like to know the scheme is something you'll use and not your sixth online alternate or the gee wiz, "I always wanted to see what a Turtle Wax Chevy would look like in my offline set". Sound fair? Okay then, I'll get off the soapbox.

When I paint somebody a scheme, I really try to make it as personal as possible. To achieve that, it is critical that you provide as much input as you can. Here's a sample of information I'd like to see with a request:

Make Chevy NEXTEL Cup
Number 23
Primary sponsor Turtle Wax, CD2 Street Legal logo (www.turtlewax.com)
Associate sponsors Dr. Pepper (diet), Gateway Computers, Logitech, Kenwood
Colors Purple and black, maybe with some bright yellow in it
Other I'd love to see some chrome on the car and can you make it a super-speedway package?
Comments I'll be using this as my primary scheme online at OnlineRacin.com and the season starts in two weeks. Can you help me out?
It helps if you can point me in the right direction if you are requesting sponsors or logos that are hard to find. If you have your own logos that you'd like to see used on the scheme, send them to me with your request. I can create custom logos for you, but you will need to give me a good word picture of what you want.

If you're still reading this, I guess you are pretty serious about getting a scheme painted. So here's the email address to get a request submitted: Request a scheme*. I look forward to working with you.

* 22 Mar 2004 - I've been inundated with requests, so I've broken the link temporarily while I try to catch up. Once I get what I've already received done, I'll reactivate it. Check back.
