Game Controls
The controls in Animal Crossing are fairly simple, and pretty similar to those of most 2d Adventure games.

Control Stick - Tilt the control stick to walk and to move the cursor on menu screens.
A Button - Use the A button to talk to characters, open doors, shake trees, use whatever item you may be holding, and to move items while indoors.
B Button - Use the B button to pick up and put away items and furniture, and to cancel in menu screens.
Y Button - Use the Y button to open and close your item screen. (the Start button can also be used for this purpose)
X Button - Use the X button to look at your map screen (if you have a map).
C Stick - Use the C stick to adjust the camera while indoors.

Keyboard Controls
Whenever you have to enter a name, write a letter, or put a message on the buliten board, you'll be given the Keyboard Screen to type it out on.

Control Stick - Tilt the control stick to select a letter.
D Pad - Use the D pad to move the cursor.
A Button - Use the A button to type a letter
B Button - Use the B button to delete a letter.
Y Button - Use the Y button to switch keyboard.
X Button - Use the X button to accent a letter.
L Trigger - Use the L button to caps lock/unlock.
R Trigger - Use the R button to type a space.
Z Button - Use the Z button to change the keyboard layout between traditional and alphabetical.
