Shadow Zero has appeared in all Seiken Densetsu titles. In Secret of Mana is adopted a role as something you could find in treasure chests rather than an enemy. Shadow Zero is very rare to find and so its status as part of Secret of Mana has almost become urban myth (then I made this page). Shadow Zero appears to have no purpose, finding him within a chest means that he simply jumps out, swiftly looks around and jumps back into the chest, getting awkwardly stuck on the way back in. Sometimes, but not all of the time, Shadow Zero will kill the character who opened the chest he is found in. Internet rumours have suggested that if one of your characters is a ghost, Shadow Zero would revive them with full HP and MP. Most people who have found Shadow Zero say that he has appeared in the Mana Fortress as well as the Palace of Darkness. He usually begins to appear after you reach the Lofty Mountains.

If you cast Shade's Evil Gate with the Sprite at Level 8:99 over and over again you will eventually see a special Level 9 spell which summons a stampede of Shadow Zero sprites, they run across the screen and damage the enemy.
