WinZip

WinZip is the essential tool needed for submitting files to any site. Sure there are several compression programs out there but WinZip is the most widely used. It is essential to set up the zip file correctly to make it easier for the end user to install your creation. In this section we will teach you how to set up your zip file correctly so the end user has an easier task. We will also cover unzipping the files correctly so that they go to the correct folder.

First however you will need the WinZip utility. You can click here to be taken to a site where you can download it. Once you have downloaded and installed it then move on to the next steps.

Section 1: Setting up your files to be zipped.

What I recommend first is setting up a temp folder inside your car or tracks folder (depends on what type of creation you have).

First lets cover tracks:

Note: All references made to folders in the tracks section assume that you are working inside the main levels folder under the revolt folder!

Make a folder inside the temp folder with the same name as your track. Now inside that folder make two folders with the names "gfx" and "levels". Image "Win-1a" is what your file tree should look like when this is set up properly.

Now go back into your levels folder and highlight your track and then right click on it. Go down to "copy" and select it. Now go into the "temp/track_name/levels" folder. Once there right click again. Go down to "paste" and select it. Your file should now be copied into that folder. Image "Win-1b" is what your tree should look like now.
Before you go any further, go into the "temp/track_name/levels/track_name" folder and clean out all unnecessary files that aren't needed by the end user. This will help keep the file size smaller.
Next you will need to move your track selection screen into the "gfx" folder within the "temp/track_name" folder. Image "Win-1c" shows you how your tree should look now. It also shows the screen selection files as they appear in the folder.
If you have not made a track selection screen or don't know what I am talking about then go to the Track Design page and read the section there related to "Track Selection Screen". Once you have your selection screen in place you are ready to zip the file up. Refer to "Section 2: Tracks" on this page for the steps involved in zipping the files.

Now lets cover cars:

Note: All references made to folders in the cars section assume that you are working inside the main cars folder under the revolt folder!

This is set up similar to the tracks setup minus the "gfx" folder.
First you will create a folder within the "temp" folder that has the same name as your car. Now inside this folder create a folder with the name "cars". Image Win-1d shows what the tree should look like.
Go back into the main cars folder under revolt and select your car, right click and scroll down and select "copy".
Now go into the "temp/your_car/cars" folder and right click again. Scroll down to and select "paste". You should now see you cars folder there. Image Win-1e shows you what the tree should look like now. Again go into this folder and clean out any unnecessary files from it.
Once you have done this you are ready to zip the file up. Refer to "Section 2: Cars" on this page for the steps involved in zipping the files.

Section 2: Zipping your files.

Tracks:
First you will select the folder that has your tracks name within the temp folder "temp/track_name". Then you will right click on it and scroll down to add to "track_name.zip." Select that and you will see a progress window pop up with a red and green light in the lower right corner and progress bar to the left of that.
Some files are small enough however that you may not see this before it disappears again. Once that light at the bottom turns green the window will close and your file will be zipped.
Don't get excited yet, there are a few more steps. I like to double zip the file for the reason that I like to use the WinZip Classic interface for uncompressing my files (will be covered later in the unzip section). This however doesn't offer any added compression
By double zipping you can store your readme file outside the main zip file. This has its advantages in that if you have any special instructions that the end user needs to follow before he or she installs the track then they can view the readme before they unzip the main zip. To do this you will just simply need to "rename" the existing folder there which has your track name on it to something like Track_prezip. Then create another folder with your track name.
Now move the first zip file into the newly created folder and place your "readme" in there also.
Once you have completed that step move up one level to your newley created folder and then right click on it. Select add to track_name.zip. You will again see the progress window pop up. Once it closes you are finally finished with zipping your track.
NOTE:Please for the sake of all browser use an underscore "_" for a space or use no spaces at all in your zip name.

Cars:
Car are zipped exactly like tracks with the exception of having a gfx folder. So repeat the steps for the track procedures ignoring the part about the gfx folder and selection screen and substituting your cars name for the tracks name.
