Artwork stuff...
Posted by TheVirtu @ 10:48PM EDT

Tonight I decided to make a quick addition to the screenshots section and I put up the nine artwork shots of the platforms that have been out for a while now in the Darkspace.net forums. I plan on adding more artwork to the section this weekend. To view the platform artwork, go to our Screenshots section, or click here.

A quick note, these platforms will be in v1.482 Darkspace patch.

Player 5-Day Free Trials!
Posted by TheVirtu @ 3:56PM EDT

As quoted from Faustus @ darkspace.net

All accounts are qualified for a coupon for 5 free days after the account has been activated/validated. No credit card is required, just a valid email address. This enables full access to all servers and the ability to gain rank and prestige. New accounts are sent the coupon after account activation, existing accounts must validate their email address.

This offer is retroactive, validated players should already have their 5-day coupon in their in-box. Only one coupon per customer is allowed, if abused you may forfeit your free trial and be subject to a ban or kick.

Thats means that now you can try out Darkspace in subscribed mode for five days!

This does NOT mean that your stats have been reset, unsubbed players that used to be subscribed juat have a regular Midshipman rank until they resubscribe.

Another dead news day...
Posted by TheVirtu @ 11:45PM EDT

Wow its been a few days since there's even been any news to report, and guess what? There still is no news to report. Well this stuff just happens sometime, you have a busy newsweek and then no news the next.

I guess this would be a good time to remind all the new site viewers that Darkspace can be downloaded for free from this site or the official Darkspace website (check our downloads section) You can play as a demo user for free to try out the game, but to gain rank to get better ships and play on the better servers, you have to subscribe to Darkspace.

Updates? What Updates?
Posted by TheVirtu @ 10:21PM EDT

Wow, for the first day in a long while there aren't any updates really to mention. I do admit that its sort of nice to take a break and get some real game time in Darkspace or going outside. But...I'm getting off-topic.

The only news tonight is a reminder that tomorrow is the Smear the Planet event being hosted by Lith Ragond where two teams will each try to bomb the others planet's Colony Hub. First team todo it wins. To be in the event you have to message Lith Ragond for the pregame chatroom in the Darkspace Lobby that will occur between 6:30pm EST and 7pm. (/send @21085 to get the password for the chatroom between 6:30pm and 7pm) You MUST be present in the chatroom to be in this event. The event itself takes place at 7pm EST. I'm not sure of what the winners recieve for wining this, however.

Site Update Stuff...
Posted by TheVirtu @ 5:51PM EDT

Hey its Sunday! Its time for some site updates.

I've updated the screenshots section with another six screenshots split between two sections. You can find three screenshots of yesterday's big UGTO invasion of Sirius in the special screenshots section. I've also added three regular release screenshots to the regular screenshots section.

Rocketeer has finished his latest version of the Prestige Calculator now with added support for all the ICC ships in the display ship part of the calculator. You can find the calculator on DSC here!

Double Billings Batman!
Posted by TheVirtu @ 12:27PM EDT

Here's a notice from Richard 'Faustus' Lyle from darkspace.net to those who might have gotten double billed for their subscription.

If you were doubled billed recently, I have some good news for you... BIBIT informed me today that the error will be fixed on the beginning of next week, and customers should see the refunds within 10 days after that.

The error occured on the bank side, which is why it's taken so long to get this issue resolved.

You can find the thread on this here.

MetaVerse News: UGTO Claim Sirius
Posted by TheVirtu @ 11:08PM EDT

As of 7:45pm this evening, UGTO forces had taken the majority of the K'luth home system Sirius. The faction is now celebrating on its capture of its greatest rival's home. None of this would have been possible if not for the fleets of |A, PB, GTN, and a few freelancers that defeated the K'luth and kept the ICC from taking advantage of the war.

On a side note, I've also opened the archives for the PoTW and the News. Thats all for now!

Darkspace Fiction Update

Event: Smear the Planet!
Posted by TheVirtu @ 10:09PM EDT

Here's details about the event, quoted from Lith Ragond, who is in charge of this event.

Ok, it's been WAY too long, and with the madly succesful (and much higher player count than I expected, it's time for another event.

Here's how it works, 2 teams, 2 planets. Both fully researched, and built to my specifications. The goal? Bomb off the other's hub. First one to do so, wins.

Rules:

1. No rebuilding, a structure gets nuked, it is GONE. This includes scrapping and building a different structure. Failure to comply will result in immediate removal from event, any attempts to rejoin event, will result in a real KICK handed out from me. Don't like how the planets are built? Tough.

2. No tractor scout/extractors/any-other-ship-not-already-fitted-with-one.

3. If Gaifen appear around your planets... IT IS NOT MY FAULT!!! *end lie*

Also, the two factions are... UGTO and K'luth (sorry ICC, but an infinite amount of pulse waves would just defeat the purpose of this). The two main planets will be labbeled... other planet will be built up BEHIND the main planets, these are NOT to be bombed, though can be re-arranged at the teams discretion.

Oh yeah, it will be held on... hrm... Tuesday... at... 7 PM EST time. As with the Tranny Whacker, a room will be opened 30 minutes prior to said event, with a password, those who wish to join must ask ME... and NO ONE ELSE, for the password. If, i see a name in the room that did not ASK me for the password (yes EVEN you moderators! as far as i am concerned everyone is on equal ground for a spot to play), I will first ask them to leave the room, then, if they fail to comply, will request an admin to remove them, if the admins give me the go ahead, i will remove you the only way i can (a kick). this may seem harsh, but it keeps thing under control. The room will also be "Moderated" to keep the confusion down for players.

During the meeting prior to the event, I will choose two team captains. THEY will choose the teams, so if you have a preference for a faction, you better talk to THEM. Once the teams are chosen, we will have a clarification of the rules (one will have been done once i "close" the room; aka not let anyone else in). I will NOT repeat the rules in chat, this post is here for a reason. I will simply ask any questions ABOUT the rules, or if anyone has concerns about something i may have missed.

These events are getting easier for me to put together and keep organized, i wanna keep it that way. Thanks.

I'm thinking of ten players on each team, but it MAY go more, i'm going to attempt major stress testing of the map and server with uber amounts of bombs, so cross your fingers.

So remember, thats this upcoming Tuesday at 7pm EST. Have any comments? Go to the event's thread.

More Bug Reports? NO!!
Posted by TheVirtu @ 10:02PM EDT

Today I've noticed that some of the pages weren't loading the navigation bars like they should. I have fixed these pages that I have noticed that have been affected (Three pages from "The Game" section of the site). Sorry again folks.

Forum Invasion?
Posted by TheVirtu @ 9:52PM EDT

As reported today by Developer Gideon, the Universe Today forum was comprimised when it was known that there were unauthorized users viewing the forum. All Darkspace history/story threads have been removed from the forums and all conversations between player/staff about the fiction has been disallowed INDEFINITELY.

So uh...on a lighter note...does that mean Darkspace has no storyline right now? Ahhh! We have no past or future AHHHH!!! No one really knows what is going on with that topic. If you know who did this, by all means report it to the Darkspace staff.

More Official Darkspace Fiction!
Posted by TheVirtu @ 9:42PM EDT

Here's a short news update, Developer Coleen has posted a new part of the official Darkspace fiction called 'The Sirius Incident'. Am I going to tell you what its about? Nah, why ruin the story? Go read it here.

Juxtapose is currently hosting his scenario, Eta Cassiopea, during the East Coast evenings (EST) for anyone to come play. This is a map that is designed for 1.481 that can trap those not prepared with close orbiting planets and asteroid fields (you dont have to worry about death by asteroids until 1.481 FYI). If you would like more information on Eta Cassiopea, go here!

Did I mention tomorrow is the one year anniversary since the big 1.476 release?

Another day, another post...
Posted by TheVirtu @ 10:50PM EDT

Got a few news updates for everyone...

I've added four new screenshots to the Darkspace Release Screenshots section of the site bringing the count up to over 120 images in just our release section. I also have a new rant for the Ranting Room written by myself on the topic of Teamwork, go check it out here

And also, Demorian has released a funny flash video called Darkspace: Episode IV. It is a hilarious video to watch, but it is a little big, weighing in at 2.75MB. Dialup users beware for a little bit of a wait.

Thats all for now.

Racing Season Event Cancelled?
Posted by TheVirtu @ 1:10PM EDT

The scheduled events for the DS Racing Season didn't occur at the times they were planned and their manager hasn't been seen in a week so I am marking the events cancelled on the site.

September Top 10 Fleets
Posted by TheVirtu @ 2:44AM EDT

Demorian of GTN has taken over the monthly Top 10 fleets event and has posted the Top 10 Fleets for the past month of September. You can view the thread here. Top honors in this month's post include Fleet Pitch Black winning first place for both overall and average prestige with Fleet Evil in second place for overall and MoA for average.

Jeez!
Posted by TheVirtu @ 12:31AM EDT

Okay I should personally punish myself for the errors I've left on the site this week when I moved the site over to this server. Today I finally fixed the Ranting Room section and all the rants should work correctly now. The entire site should now be correctly linked. I seriously apologize for the site 404's this week.

In other news... Since this news post about Email Validation explains it all, I'll just quote it. Quoted from Faustus..
Until recently, anyone could create a DarkSpace account, provide a valid or invalid email address and go play the demo version of DarkSpace. Unfortunately, we have ended up with lots of invalid email addresses in our database and bounced emails back in our inbox from clan annoucments and our mailings (which we rarely do anyone for those of you concerned about getting spammed).

We are now requiring a validated email address to join or create a fleet. Starting October 31st, we will also require a validated email address to play on the DEMO servers or be a clan administrator. Just to be clear, ALL CLAN ADMINS WITH INVALID EMAIL ADDRESSES WILL BE DEMOTED ON OCTOBER 31ST!

Existing accounts can validate their email address by clicking on the Edit Profile link in their player profile page. You have until October 31st to validate your email address, otherwise you will lose access to join the DEMO servers.

Corrections & More
Posted by TheVirtu @ 4:46PM EDT

I've put up the log to the Public Developer meeting from today where Faustus does his monthly question answering and explaination of the upcoming 1.481 patch. View the Article

Also I've corrected the links in the Articles section of the site that werent working correctly. I've also corrected the links in the Darkspace Academy main page. If you find any errors, send me an email or post about it in the forums.

Update: Found link errors in the Fiction section, they have been corrected, sorry for the screwup. (I seem to easily overlook the changing the links to PHP too :) ) Tomorrow afternoon I'll have enough time to make sure all links have been fixed. If you come upon a link that doesnt work, change the page extension from ASP to PHP, it should work then.

New Maps Server Reopened
Posted by TheVirtu @ 11:33PM EDT

Today the darkspace.net - Fleet Admiral 2 server was reopened and is now rotating new scenarios that can be seen in the upcoming expanded MetaVerse, and of course, some maps thrown in for fun. You DO need to be subscribed to enter the Fleet Admiral 2 server, so demo users cannot go here.
