What is Commandos 2?
It´s WW.II and the most famous Allied squadron is back! The conflict is reaching its peak and the Allied Forces are under crushing pressure from enemy forces. From the cold cells in Colditz within the heart of the Third Reich, to the most remote islands in the South Pacific in the confines of the Land of the Rising Sun, Sergeant Jack “Butcher” O´Hara and his men will have to change the course of the war. Commandos 2 incorporates a new and revolutionary technology with a spectacular graphical quality to create an unprecedented gaming experience.

Why is it so good?
Commandos 2 incorporates a state-of-the-art 3D engine which enables multiple technological innovations, offering the player an incredible level of detail and control. All internal and external scenarios in Commandos 2 are fully playable. The interior scenarios can be seen from any angle and can be rotated 360º with a free camera, the game also offers a full vision of exteriors where the player can choose from 4 different camera angles. An advanced graphics engine handles all the light and shadowing, real weather effects, which can be observed during night or day missions across multiple screen resolutions. Particle effects have also been used to give water, fire and explosions a maximum level of realism. The enemy AI has also been updated, not only allowing them to see you, but now to hear you coming. They have also undergone major brain surgery, recieving memory's so they can remember all your actions. A Co-operative multiplayer mode has been included, running across both the internet and a LAN. Environments range from Buddhist temples to the Arctic sea, many being modeled from real WWII environments. All levels are fully interactive allowing you to swing along telephone lines, dive under the water, drive vehicles, steal clothes as disguies, etc. The weapons arsenal inlcudes a telescopic view riffle, machine guns, bazookas, flame-throwers, mines, grenades, knives, dynamite and as many enemy weapons as you are able to obtain throughout the game. Is there a demo?
Pyro have made a demo but Eidos considered it too large to release (it was more of a mini-Commandos 2). If you really, really want to wait for one to come out, just drop by here on a reqular basis, and we'll try to keep you updated on the possiblity of Pyro Studios cutting it down a bit!

I want to know more!
You mean all of the above still hasn't convinced you to buy it?! OK, well, presuming you've looked around at all the other info this site has on Commandos, then a good place to find out even more is our forums.

How many commandos are there?
There is a total of 9 commandos at your disposal, including 3 new ones.

What do they do?
Well, apart from the normal routine of killing enemy soliders, which all do quite well, each has his/her own special skills, which make the strategic possibilities endless:

Jack "Butcher" O'Hara - He is the biggest and strongest member of the group. His strength allows him to fight, knock out, tie and carry enemies faster than any other commando, and also to knock down almost every door, climb poles and swing along wires. He is also the second fastest commando, allowing him to get out of harms way quickly.

Rene Duchmap "Frenchy" - Amazingly good at imitating enemies, where he (once wearing a stolen enemy uniform) uses his fluency in many languages to give deceptive orders to enemy soldiers. He is also very adapt with a poison syringe - an effective way of killing enemies silently.

Thomas Hancock "Fireman" - Slow moving, but with good reason. His packback contains the heavy components he needs to place explosives on the map. He can use the heavy weapons, such as bazookas and flame-throwers to lethal effect. One of his other usefull abilities is his minedector, a quick and safe way of detecting and deactivating mines. Once deactivated, he can pick them up, and re-set them in a areas where enemies may pass!

James Blackwood "Fins" - A specialist in water-invloving missions, he is able to use his diving equipment to stay under water for hours, using his harpoon gun to keep him safe. On dry land, he can silently climb up trees and buildings, and is effective when throwing knifes or his grappling hook.

Samuel "Brooklyn" - Expert in general mayhem, he is adept at setting both bombs and traps. Whilst in the British army, he aquired a skill for driving foriegn vehicles, allowing him to quickly move the commandos around the map in relative saftey.

Sir Francis T. Woolridge "Duke" - The commando with the long name, he is considered one of the best snipers in the world. He can hide behind windows, poles and other objects before making that vital kill.

Natasha Nikochevski "The Sedictress" - The spy who loved them. Quite fascinating to a point, then deadly. Give her some lipstick and let her distract the enemy.

Paul Toledo "Lupin" - Small and fast, he can enter buildings through holes in the walls. He is a adept theif, being very efficent with a lock pick, opening safes and doors with ease, and quick to steal from the enemy. He also has a pet rat, Spike, trained in the art of distraction.

Whiskey - By barking and running around your enemies, he is useful as another method of distraction. He can carry objects between commandos, and smell a mine a mile off.

How can I gag and move a knocked out enemy?
All of the commandos, except Whiskey and Lupin, can gag and move knocked out enemies. To gag them, hold down CTRL and left-click on their body. Once tied up, another CTRL and left-click will get that commando to pick them up. Right-click to have the commando drop them somewhere out of sight.

How can I look in my commandos back-packs?
Simply right-click on their picture in the bottom right corner of the screen (on the interface) to see what they are carrying.

How can I get up those telegraph poles?
Not all of the commandos can climb up telegraph poles. To get those who can to do so, hold down CTRL and left-click on the pole to climb up. Make sure you come back down before the stamina bar runs out though, falling will hurt your commando and make a noise!

How can I control the dog?
The dog, Whiskey, normally travels inside the commandos backpacks. If you want to release Whiskey, simply click his icon on the interface. To call him, get the commando to use the whistle.

I've lost the interface! How can I get it back?
To hide/show the interface, use the ~ key.

How can I use those lovely multiple cameras?
The function keys F3-F8 cycle through the different camera setups available. Each area acts as a totally seperate window. The one you are currently changing has a red outline. To go back to using only one camera press F2.

Where can I find out about all the new features in Commandos 2?
Well, up this page a bit, and in our game overview section.

How do I use the vehicles?
To get into a vehicle, hold down CTRL and left-click on one. You can move the vehicles in the same way as your commandos.

I'm stuck, is there any cheats?
Not as far as we know so far - we'll keep you updated. Soon, you will be able to use our guides section to get yourself out of that tricky situation.

Q:
Is it possible to install Commandos under an other system than win95 or Win98?

A:
Yes there is! If you are having difficulty installing/playing Commandos in Windows 2000 visit the DOWNLOADS-PATCHES section. For the various other flavors of Windows try copying the files to the Commandos folder on your hard drive and register the following in registry. (Or - better yet - put the following text into an empty file and save as a .reg - file. This can be merged directly into registry.)

Be aware that drive letters and paths must be edited to reflect your installation. (Remember the double inside strings.)

Good luck and happy gaming!
Anders

Q:
I'm having problems with Commandos multiplayer games. I get a 'Version not compatable' message. Are there different versions of Commandos?

A:
Commandos Version Conflict Page
For those of you who have been frustrated while trying to play Commandos multiplayer,  you are in luck.  In an effort to get a handle on the many versions of Commandos floating around,  Tom Trude @ Commandos: MI6  has created a Commandos Version Conflict Page which lists the many versions (w/CD images) and their multiplay compatablility with respect to other versions.  If anyone has seen a CD that is not represented, please let Tom know.

Q:
Help - Commandos runs too fast on my New PIII!

A:
This question keeps popping-up. Unfortunately Pyro/Eidos have never released a Commandos patch to address this problem. First, try the in-game settings.

For Behind Enemy Lines, try increasing the screen resolution.

For Beyond the Call of Duty, Pyro actually added a game speed option. Set the game speed to its slowest setting in addition to increasing the screen resolution.

If this doesn't work, below are a couple additional options you can try to slow those darn germans down a bit.
Good Luck, let me know how it works.

Option 1 -- Increase your computers' display resolution to maximum your video card / monitor will supported. To do this go to Start - Control Panel - Display - Settings. Move the slider to the right to increase your monitor resolution. Remember, always test the new settings before clicking Apply.

Option 2 -- Start a couple other programs like MS Word and Excel, then start Commandos. The idea being that your computer will have to share its resources (CPU and Memory) with the other programs running in the background, thus slowing down the game a bit.

Q:
How can I play Commandos Multyplayer?

A:
Method 1 --
To set up the server for play over the internet go to your Commandos folder there is a Dos file (mpserver.exe) for direct games. You "or" your friend must run the server, then both of you log on to it with the hosts IP number. The host (guy that started the Dos server) must also log on to it (with his own IP) after starting his game. Once he connects to the internet, email the other players his IP address. The first person to log on will be in control. While in the game, you hit the "z key" to chat and to close the chat window, you hit "Ctrl" & "z". You can also use Roger Wilco (voice) with Commandos. See page 27 in your user's manual for more info about Multiplay.

Let's put it another way just for clarification purposes. You should read the little book that came with the game (page 27-28). You may be trying to play with only one CD and the info stated above details how to do that. Basically, one computer acts as the server by running mpserver.exe (a dos program in the commandos folder). Both computers then run the game and log on to the IP address that the server shows.

Method 2 -- Simply play on the internet, just use www.Mplayer.com . It is a lot of fun tring to work around the newbies (biggest hazzard in multiplay) and still beat the mission, ha ha. Mplayer has voice or text chat in all game rooms and it doesn't take long before you know who the good players are. Most of the real young kids don't like Commandos--because they have no patience or strategy skills. You get to meet people from all over the world, there, but we (non-Euros) can't play with Europeans--the versions are different. We can play with everyone in the BTCOD lobby, though. You can also play Mods in Multiplay, as long as all the players in the game have them. A lot of people seem to like my Deathmatch Missions.
