Emerl
Emerl is an ancient weapon, known as the Gizoid, that was created over 4,000 years ago by the "Fourth Great Civilization," which he is responsible for the destruction of. He establishes a link to anyone with great power, with those whose power is greater than his current master being favored, and remains loyal to that master until the link is broken. His greatest ability, Skill Copy, allows him to learn and mimic the personality traits, knowledge, and fighting abilities of others; he amplifies this copying ability by absorbing Chaos Emeralds.
While experimenting, Eggman gave Emerl a Chaos Emerald which it absorbed. As he couldn't retrieve the jewel, Eggman got angry at the robot and threw it away on a beach. He was later found by Sonic, who Emerl viewed as powerful, so he formed a link with him (...)
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic embodies the wind, as implied in multiple games. He is noted for being free-spirited, adventurous, outgoing and caring, cherishing his freedom to live as he wants above all else. He is impatient and will often jump into situations without thinking, as his confidence is unshakable, even in the most dire circumstances.
In Sonic Battle, Sonic first discovers Emerl on a beach in Emerald Town and quickly becomes friends with the robot. He travels throughout the game with Emerl and their friendship builds up as they progress (...)

Miles "Tails" Prower
Tails is a very friendly and humble fox. He looks up to Sonic as a hero whom he wants to emulate. Though he lacks confidence, he is always quite capable around Sonic and often helps him out. He is very intelligent and at times he has even outsmarted Eggman. He can also annoy others with his overuse of technical jargon, or technobabble, which often frustrates those around him, particularly Knuckles.
In Sonic Battle, Tails' specials include firing electrical energy with an arm cannon, setting "Chu2" bombs that seek out their target and cause a giant hand to appear and attack. His flying ability is present but very dumbed down, but it is made up with the fact that Tails has one of the best healing abilities in the game (...)
Knuckles the Echidna
Knuckles' personality and character traits vary between various continuities. He is independent, headstrong, devoted to his duty and slightly gullible. He is very serious and usually likes to be by himself, but can be relied upon to help out whenever Earth is in danger. Because of his flaws, he and Sonic do not always get along, but are still allies.
In Sonic Battle, Knuckles is interrupted of his Master Emerald guarding duties by Dr. Eggman and battles with his massive claws and strength (...)
Shadow the Hedgehog
Shadow is a "lone wolf" who distances himself from Sonic and his friends. He is overall the exact opposite of Sonic. Whereas Sonic is witty and fun-loving, and a slight bit cocky, Shadow always remains serious and no-nonsense, and rarely speaks to people in a friendly way, if at all, despite talking to himself occasionally.
In Sonic Battle, Rouge saves Shadow while they are investigating Dr. Eggman's secret base and takes him back to her home. Shadow talks about how the people of Earth must destroy him and Emerl if they ever want peace, still believing that he is a weapon (...)

Rouge the Bat
Rouge is a strong-minded, fearless, ambitious, and flirty young bat. She has been known to seduce people with her attractiveness to get what she wants, such as rare gems. Rouge, along with Shadow, is one of the few characters in the series who could be described as an 'anti-hero', because of her actions.
In Sonic Battle, she is the owner of Club Rouge in the Night Babylon area. Most of her fighting techniques appear to be derived from kickboxing. She plans to use her position as a government agent to gather information on valuable treasures. She also knows a great deal about the Gizoid and tells most characters about the Gizoid (...)
Amy Rose
Amy Rose is extremely protective of her friends. Despite her violent tendencies, she has a very good heart, she never gives up, and is one of the most optimismic and cheery characters of the game. She has a large crush on Sonic and is often chasing him.
In Sonic Battle, Amy is considered by some to be one of the stronger and more reliable characters in the game. All of her attacks contain large amounts of speed, power, and balance, her healing ability can quickly raise her HP, and she is the third fastest character (...)
Cream the Rabbit
Cream is extremely polite, follows manners, and does what she is told. She is very friendly and tries to be close to everyone she meets. She is usually not afraid to go out on an adventure. However, she is a bit naive, since she is still very young. She does not like any form of violence, however, she learns to fight to protect the people she cares about.
In Sonic Battle, Cream lives with Amy Rose in her apartment, where she helps Amy boxercise. She quickly befriends Emerl and teaches him about sadness and emotions after his violence makes her cry (...)
E-102 Chaos Gamma
E-102 Chaos Gamma is the rebuilt version of E-102 Gamma, created from the salvaged parts of the original E-Series (despite seemingly exploding into nothing upon their destruction), appearing as an antagonist and playable character in Sonic Battle. While he has lacks the original Gamma's memories, he looks just like his original form, except his missile launcher, "102" decal and headlight are missing and he has a deeper voice.
While obtaining similar lock-on utilities as the original, Chaos Gamma fights by summoning various weapons unique to his model, including drills, electric shock prods which attach to his hands, and a grenade launcher which attaches to his shoulder. Despite his slow moving and his lack of good aim, Chaos Gamma does lots of damage if you land his attacks. He is also powered by Emerald shards, growing with intelligence with each piece as Emerl does, upon which he bitterly expresses that Dr. Eggman used Gamma's intended Chaos Emerald to activate the Gizoid (...)

Chaos Zero
Chaos is an immortal, ageless god-like creature (referred to as the "God of Destruction" by Eggman) that seems composed almost entirely of water (save for his brain, green glowing eyes, and, in some later forms, bones) but is also said to be concentrated Chaos Emerald energy.
Chaos's latest appearance is in Sonic Battle, where Knuckles claims that Chaos only appears in times of great crisis. When Dr. Eggman threatens the Earth with his Death Egg in the final story, a nearby volcanic crater is flooded and freezes over, and Chaos emerges as Chaos 0 (...)
