Life off the Big Screen: A SSBM Story
Experience Super Smash Brothers: Melee like you’ve never seen before...

Part 1: Gather for the Tournament?
Part 2: The Feelings Within

Part 1: Gather for the Tournament?

Chapter I: A Hylian Tale

“Er-”
Link was swarmed by a whole bunch of people, mostly girls.
Fan girls.
They were screaming and pushing their way to Link to get his autograph. Link sighed as he took out a pen and started signing papers behind the huge Melee Stadium.
“Oh Link! Is there any way I could become a Smash Bros. Star?” Asked a crazed up fan girl.
“Uh…maybe. But you’ll have to have your own video game, hosted by Nintendo,” Link answered.
The crazed girl snatched the autograph paper from Link and examined it. “Could you put ‘To my #1 fan, Isis. Love Link’?”
Link sighed and wrote it down. Link stood outside signing autographs until the door behind Link opened and Zelda poked her head around.
“OH MY GOSH!! It’s Princess Zelda!!” the crowd screamed.
Zelda smiled at them, grabbed Link by the collar, and dragged him inside the Stadium away from the blood-thirsty fans.
“Thanks Princess,” Link said.
“Whatever, you were supposed to be in the Arena 10 minutes ago! You have a battle against Roy to decide the title of Best Swordsman.”
Link blushed. “Sorry, I was kind of busy.”
“Don’t let it happen again, okay?” Zelda said as her cell phone rang. “Hello? Yes, this is she…yup…a-huh…when is this...alright I’ll be there.”
Zelda hung up the phone. She turned to Link.
“Call me when the next round starts, I have…stuff to do.”
Zelda was engulfed in light as she transformed to Sheik and she waved to Link.
“Later,” she said as she literally vanished in a puff of smoke. Link sighed. He hitched up his tunic and drew his sword from its sheath.
“Don’t worry Roy, you’re not winning that title,” Link said as he stepped into the Arena.

Chapter II: A judge’s woe

“Why did we take this job?” Luigi whined.
Luigi, along with Mario and, to Mario’s disgust, Bowser, were the judges of the “Title Awards”.
“I think it’s fun,” Mario said. “We get to decide who the winners of each category are. We get to control this tournament.”
“I have to go with you brother on this one,” Bowser said to Mario. “It’s better to compete in this than judge.”
“Will both of you stop complaining?” Mario snapped at them. “You will battle, but not in this one because none of you guys have swords. This is only the first battle, so relax.”
Luigi brightened up a bit. “Well, what are the events?”
Mario picked up a list and started reading:

(This is just the list of events that’ll take place. If you don’t wanna read it [half of you won’t] or maybe you don’t want me to ruin the surprise skip ahead to chapter III)

“Best Swordsman, Best Royalty, Quickest Creature, Strongest Puffball, Toughest Being, Tag Team Award, Evilest Villain, Dummy Champion, Homerun King, and the mini-events: Perfect Princess, Best Spin, Best Taunt, and Cutest Creature, and other events.”

“‘Tag Team Award’? Sign us up!” Luigi said to Mario.
“Sign me up for that ‘Evilest Villain’ and ‘Toughest Creature’!” Bowser said.
“Great!” Mario said. “Oh yeah, and we have a surprise guest coming on here.”
“Who?” Luigi asked.
“The Princess who never made it to SSB-”

Chapter III: Let this ‘Tournament’ begin!

“The Princess Daisy!”
Daisy walked in and took a seat between Bowser and Mario. Luigi gaped at his brother.
“Now, let the tournament begin!” Daisy said.

“In the first battle is the epic ‘Best Swordsman’ round,” Daisy said in an announcer-like voice. “First, from a land far-away called Hyrule is…Link!”

Link walked on stage and waved to the judges and other SSBM contestants who are seated behind the judges table on risers.

“Next, is a boy from Fire Emblem…Roy!”

Roy walked in, winking to the audience, getting loud cheers, and stood next to Link.

“And finally,” said Daisy. “Are two mystery members, who signed up for this title, they’re…………….Young Link and Marth!”

Link dropped his jaw. “You mean he joined this?”
Y. Link shrugged. “I needed to enter without you knowing.”

“Alright,” said Mario. “Our lovely Princess Daisy will spin the Wheel of Arena to decide which arena you are to fight on.”
Daisy spun the wheel next to the stage and waited until it stopped.
“Great Bay: Termina!” Daisy shouted.
“What?” both Links asked.
Marth and Roy looked confused.
“Sorry boys,” Daisy said, shrugging. “Luck of the spin.”
“You’re joking?” Y. Link said.
Link gaped at Daisy. “This is bull sh-” But the four warriors had dematerialized and were sent to Great Bay to duke out their skills.
“Let’s use the screen to watch the moves,” Daisy said, as the curtains on the stage moved apart to reveal a HUGE screen. The audience watched eagerly as the screen turned on…

Part 2: The Feelings Within

Chapter IV: Greatest Swordsmans

“Ah! Why here?” Y. Link complained.
Link sighed as he found himself on top of a palm tree.
Roy and Marth looked at each other.
“Tell you what,” Roy said. “We take on the Green Goons then we’ll fight each other to determine the best, deal?”
“You got it,” the prince replied.
“Do you really think you’re going to win with that pocket knife?” Link asked Y. Link.
“It’s a dagger! And what do you think?” Y. Link answered.
Link rolled his eyes, but instinctively he rolled over just in time to dodged Marth’s blade.
“Hey!” Link shouted, throwing his shield in front of his face to block Marth’s rain of blows. Or slashes.
Y. Link dodged Roy’s oncoming attacks, and then put his shield in front of his face. Roy paused.
“Are you quitting?” Y. Link said, peeking over his shield, but Roy was changing colors. He was charging up.
“Oh man!” Y. Link said. “My shield can’t block fire!”
Roy was done charging up and he threw down his blade, creating a huge explosion. Y. Link’s shield became nothing but splinters and showered Y. Link’s face. He screamed in pain, falling to the floor.

Back at the Melee Stadium the crowd gasped and awed at the action going on in the TV. Daisy bit her lip, concerned.
“This is getting violent,” she said softly.
“Don’t worry about it, Link will do just fine. He may not be doing to good now, but he’ll surprise us in the end. And after all, no one can get hurt in here; it is Super Smash Brothers after all.”
“Then why am I not in this game?” Daisy snapped.
Luigi shrugged. “Maybe you were banned?”
Daisy turned her attention back to the screen.
“I love Roy’s style. Unfortunately, it takes him some time to charge up his blade, but the result is worth the wait, meanwhile I love Link’s style. He can counter-attack and block Marth’s move with only his blade. But, L. J’s [author’s note: L.J is Daisy’s nickname for Young Link] not recovering to well. Um-Mario, is L. J supposed to bleed like that?”
Mario, who was drinking some water, spit out the liquid as he looked at Y. Link’s face on the screen.
“What’s going on? Bowser, did you turn on the violence?”
Bowser glared at Mario. “What the-why do you think it’s me?”
Mario shrugged. “You’re the bad guy.”
Bowser pouted and turned back to the screen.
Roy was starting to charge up again. Link rolled past Marth and then launched an arrow at him. The arrow pierced Marth’s gut.
Link’s eyes widened. “What the f-” But the rest of the sentence was drowned out by Marth’s shouts.
Roy turned around distracted, but he lost control of his sword and blew himself up with the sword. Y. Link blinked in surprise. Roy was smoldering on the ground, unconscious. Y. Link whistled innocently and kicked Roy off the stage into the water. When Y. Link turned around, he was greeted by his older counterpart, who was grinning mischievously at Y. Link, and shoved Y. Link over the end of the stage into the water. Link wiped sweat from his face before he was transported back to the Stadium.
“Our winner!” said Mario.
Daisy brought a large trophy, with a sword figure on top of the golden trophy, and handed it to Link on stage.
“Due to the fact that Marth needs to heal from his wounds, the ‘Best Royalty’ battle is postponed. So our nest event is the mini-pageant ‘Cutest Creature’,” Luigi said. “10 minute break, people!”

Chapter V: Cutest Creature

Link walked to his dressing room to mop up his wounds. That was crazy, he thought. It was like, real life. Blood and stuff, but those aren’t even seen on my game, except for the enemies. Link shook his head; it was way too much for him to think about. Link put his trophy on top of the dresser by his closet. But, I have to admit, that trophy is really awesome. There was a knock on the door, Link sat down in his seat by his huge mirror desk.
“Come in!” he called.
The door opened and Zelda walked in. “Hey, I heard you won you’re first match.”
“Heard? You weren’t there?” Link asked.
Zelda looked around uncomfortably. “Well, I had…errands to run.”
Link sighed. “Always the same sh-”
Another knock on the door. “Come in!” Link called.
Daisy peeped her head around the door. “Next match is about to start. Better take your seats.”
Daisy left, then Zelda left after taking a glance at Link. Link sighed, then got up and left.

Daisy took her spot next to Mario. Bowser got up and walked on stage with a microphone.
“Well, our next ‘competition’ is about to begin. It’s our first ‘beauty pageant’ of this ‘tournament’ so, yeah, let’s get started.”
The audience clapped happily.
“Now, from some planet shaped like a star, and called, my god, you call this original?! From ‘Pop star’, it’s that copying rodent, Kirby!”
Kirby walked on stage, waving at the audience.
“Next, is another little rodent whom we all love…wait, who wrote these cue cards?!! Anyway, it’s that pokemon we all…some of us tolerate-Pikachu!”
Pikachu waddled on stage, flipping its ear and looking cute. He got squeals and gasps from all of the female viewers.
“Now, it’s the ‘off-key wonder’, I mean ‘singing wonder’ Jigglypuff!”
Jigglypuff got onstage, blue bow on and blowing kisses to the audience.
“Yeah, yeah only some of us can tolerate that. Now, our other two contestants are the ‘rotten-eggs’ off Yoshi, and the Pikachu rodent wannabe, Pichu!”
Pichu also got much applause from the girl viewers.
Bowser rolled his eyes. “Anyway,” he droned. “By round of applause we will decide who the winner is. Now, who like Kirby? Not me…”
There was a nice loud applause for Kirby, who jumped in the air and did cartwheels.
“Alright, alright, what about this wanna-be Madonna?”
Jigglypuff winked at the crowd, and got a lot more applauses than Kirby. Kirby puffed up in anger. “You’re going down sister, in the puffball match!” Jigglypuff rolled her eyes. “Puff!” [Translation: “You couldn’t take down a pillow.”] Kirby growled. “We’ll see.” Bowser, who was starting to get interested by the arguing, sighed and walked over to Pichu.
“What about this ‘cute’ short-tail Pikachu look-alike here?”
Pichu got a more applause than Kirby and Jigglypuff together. Pichu got so over-excited, it did Thunder, but knocked itself unconscious from the shock. Bowser kicked it.
“He’s fine. Now, what about this large lizard dinosaur-looking thing? Er-your name’s Yoshi, right?”
Yoshi stuck its tongue out at Bowser, and then ate him. Bowser then came out as a large egg. The audience cheered, but not too loud or enthusiastically as the other three contestants.
“And last,” muffled Bowser, still in the egg. “Is the Pokemon we all know and lo-…forget it! Pikachu!”
The audience stood on its feet, cheering. This was enough noise to break the egg, and Bowser came out with the trophy in hand. He gave it to Pikachu.
“I need a better job. Who told me to host the ‘Cutest Creature’? That’s the last time I ever listen to Mario. Anyway, next event ‘Best Taunt’…hmm, interesting. 10 minutes, people!”
Everyone in the stands got up and left the room for break. Bowser wiped sweat from his face and made his way off stage.
“Never again!” he roared.
“Awww, but you still have to do the ‘Perfect Princess’ mini-event,” Mario said.
Bowser growled at Mario. “Mamma me-a! Alright, you can take the ‘Best KO Scream’ okay?”
“Hmm,” Bowser said, pondering. “That event sounds interesting.”
Daisy got up. “I can take part in the event, right?”
“Uh,” Mario and Luigi said.
“Wonderful!” Daisy replied happily, leaving the judge’s table and heading backstage towards the dressing room.
Luigi laid his head down on the table. “This is going to be a looooooooong day…”
