A deeper look ... (continued)

It's a kind of magic
Arcane spellcasters like wizards, sorceres or bards have to choose their starting spells during character creation. In the following screenshot you can see ToEE's spell selection screen.

Instead of using icons like for example in the Baldur' Gate series, ToEE shows the names of the available spells to the left. By using drag-and-drop you can assign the spells to the free spell slots on the right. Although the usage of names instead of icons in the interface may look more plain it's in my opinion much more efficient.

Class Features
We already had a look at the cleric's class features, the cleric's domains. But several other classes have special class features too. One of them is the Ranger. Rangers are cunning, skilled warriors of the wilderness.
Rangers are often skilled hunters and are used to hunt a favorite prey or enemy. This is the so-called "favored enemy". Rangers get special bonusses when fighting or hunting their favored enemy. As shown on the following screenshot there are many different types of creatures available.

Another class with a special feature are wizards. Wizards often study many years to perfect their art, so they often (but not alawys) choose a school to specialize in. But specializing has one disadvantage: you have to choose two schools that are prohibited to you.

A wizard can not learn or cast (not even from reading a magic scroll) spells from his prohibited school. Of course spezialization has its advantages, too: A specialist wizard can prepare one additional spell of her specialty school per spell level each day. She also gains a +2 bonus on Spellcraft checks to learn the spells of her chosen school.

This concludes our deeper look into the details of character creation of ToEE. Although the D&D 3.5 rules are not trivial, ToEE provides the gamer with all the information needed to successfully create an interesting roleplaying character.
