Mission Statement
The mission of BCU is simple. Provide a friendly open environment where people can come and exchange ideas and participate in the enjoyment of BC. Our secondary mission is to promote both the development of BC and the distribution of mods pertaining to the game, to facilitate exposure to a wider audience and improve the BC experience.

Bridge Commander Universe Violation Procedures

Violations
The following dictates the specific rules and guidelines for the site and the message boards. Included are rules for conduct, posting mods, and other general rules and conditions of patronage. Management is not bound in any way to the system dictated here, and reserves the right to alter, circumvent or otherwise change any or all of the listed steps at any time without notice. Violation of the rules and regulations listed hereafter will result in the actions implemented as follows:

-First Offense
Verbal warning on the boards in the form of a post within the offender’s particular thread. The post will not be punitive to the violator, nor will it serve to publicly embarrass or admonish the patron. A PM can be used instead if it is prudent.

-Second Offense
Written warning sent using PM system. A copy of the PM should either be sent to upper management, or posted in the Employee Forum on site with links to the offending thread. Under certain circumstances, such as in sensitive situations, this may be the first step, followed by the next violation action listed.

-Third Offense
Suspension of account pending review by the owner of the site. The length of suspension is indicated below, but can vary from 7 days to 30 days, depending on the severity of the violation.

About Account Suspensions
Once suspension has been implemented, a number of actions can be decided by the owner, to include but not limited to; reinstatement, direct discussion on the matter, public retraction of statements or a personal apology, correction of offense, temporary suspension of account up to and including 4 weeks of forum posting restrictions, or permanent ban. The decision process will be made in the presence of related staff members and the offender whenever possible. A written log of the decision will be provided to the offender if he or she cannot be present. The decisions of the owner are final and are not subject to arbitration or review, unless dictated by the owner directly. The usual process is an initial 7 day suspension, followed by a 30 day suspension, and finaly account termination and banning from the forum.

Bridge Commander Universe Warnings System

Warning Card System Use and Post Counts
The forums have two hacks installed that allow the moderators to issue documented warnings to a user that circumvents the standard disciplinary system, or simply edit the total posts count that the user has accumulated on the boards. This system can be used to supplement, replace or enhance the disciplinary process. The choice is given to the particular moderator or staff member as to which he or she chooses is prevalent. You can receive up to three warnings in a 90-day period before your account will be suspended for seven days. Every 30 days warnings are cleared. The amount of warnings issued using this system will not add to or take away from considerations for alternative disciplinary action, and this system is considered a separate system with respect to determination of disciplinary needs. The post count of the user can also be adjusted to facilitate a demotion when it is warranted, or in the case of abuse of the spamming rules.

About the Rules
In order to provide a friendly environment for our patrons, certain rules and guidelines are required with respect to participating on our boards. There are general rules, obvious ones that are usually universal for all message boards, and others specific to the BCU message board system. They are as follows:

Posting
Participants shall not at any time post any material likely to cause obvious and intended offence, that is protected by copyright, trademark or other proprietary right without the express permission of the owner of such copyright or that contains personal phone numbers or addresses. Members will make all attempts to secure permissions before posting.

Special Forums
There are specific forums in existence that will allow certain volatile subjects to be discussed, and posts can be made in those specific forums as long as restraint is practiced. It is up to the moderators to decide the level of restraint required.

Profanity
Profanity is allowed only in the forums in which the allowance for it is indicated directly. Otherwise all patrons are expected to restrict profanity display and use by using stars or simply avoiding the use of the language altogether.

Advertising
Participants may not use the Forums to post or transmit advertisements or commercial solicitations of any kind, with the exception of free personal sites related to BC or sites that can be used to support the game. Any advertising of commercial products or solicitation for commercial or compensated purposes without the express approval of management will result in an immediate ban from the boards.

Rights of Moderators
The appropriate Forum Moderator has the right to edit, censor, delete or otherwise modify any posted message, which include the contents of the message, such as signatures, custom titles, and handles.

Respect Towards Staff
Respect will be shown to all staff members without question at all times. Any complaints levied at staff will not be displayed publicly; you will be required to use the private message system to state your grievance. You will be expected to attempt to solve your problem with the particular staff member first, and if not resolved on that level, contact upper management to solve the issue. Threats will not be tolerated on or off the forum.

Spamming
Spamming is not allowed in the BC related forums. You may spam within reason inside the general forums in the threads specifically designed for this purpose........however, abuse of this privilege or spamming profusely to increase rank or post count is not allowed. You are considered in violation of this rule if more than 20 percent of your posts on this forum are spam. If you are in violation of this rule, you are subject to an adjustment of your total post count per the diciplinary system.

Posting of Offensive Materials
Warez, Pornography, and the promotion of hate, extreme violence, intolerance and/or racism is not tolerated and will be dealt with swiftly and with extreme resolve. This includes white pride movements, terrorist doctrine, ethnicity display that is meant to insult other ethnicities, and general violent comments or suggestions pointed toward any member of the board. This behavior is strictly prohibited in ALL Forums, User Titles, Avatars, Signatures and anything else related to the BCU site. Any member found in violation of this or caught purposely attacking other members in the forums will be immediately suspended. There is zero tolerance for this type of activity on BCU. Abuse of this rule may result in the immediate ban of the user from the entire Nightsoft network. In addition, any private messages to the staff that are threatening in any manner will be considered a violation of this rule. We know the difference between pride and racism, and so do you. We also recognize constructive criticism. Do not violate this rule.

This web site does not verify or guarantee the accuracy of the material posted to the Forums or bear any responsibility for any loss, damage, or other liabilities caused by any posted message or linked product. We cannot and will not be held liable for any problems you may encounter using our products, supported products, or products provided by the community. BCU does not test every product released by the community. It is up to the end user to troubleshoot problems with mods and supporting products, and the risk of use falls completely on the end user.

Policy on Mods

Kitbashing and Permissions
Nightsoft supports kitbashing. We ask that permissions are secured as a courtesy to the artist, and we will not allow any product to be stored on or released from our properties without the express permission from the original artist. If proper credits to the original artist are displayed and placed in the readme and the post on the boards, however, we will not block an announcement on our properties for release of the product from a server or site that is not owned by Nightsoft EVEN IF SPECIFIC PERMISSIONS HAVE NOT BEEN SECURED. Nor will we block a user in this instance. If your work is truly original, IE; not based on copyrighted material, the preceding rules do not apply, and your work will be treated by Nightsoft like copyrighted material, with all rights and privileges thereof. If a public effort is made to secure permissions and the result is no response to inquiry, we will assume that permission is given and treat the post as such as long as credits are listed in the post and the readme, until such time as we are to think otherwise. Nightsoft reserves the right to modify this rule at any time and to decide to remove a post that displays a product regardless of whether permission has been secured or not. We reserve all rights in this manner, and no moderator or staff member is required to explain his or her actions or decisions to this respect.

Note About Public Release
Nightsoft strongly urges all kitbashers to secure proper permissions. We respects the rights of original artists, but it must be said that public release of your work, outside of copyrighting that work, is public domain and opens it to alterations web wide. If you do not wish to have your work altered, you should not base your work on copyrighted materials. Original work is, however, protected by proprietary rights around the world. It should also be said that any artist is welcome to approach Nightsoft to secure compensation for their model, in order to facilitate universal permissions for kitbashing if so desired.

Banned Members and Space on Nightsoft
Any members that are banned from this forum and have space of the Nightsoft servers will not be banned from the server with the exceptions listed above. If you are banned for reasons of violating rules of the board, you will still retain your space on our servers for your site as long as you continue to follow the Nightsoft server use guidelines. Enforcement of the rules of this board are not retaliatory, and the provision of space on Nightsoft is not based on popularity or disposition among the community.

Nightsoft Products
Any and all products provided to the community by Nightsoft remain the property of Nightsoft and are not to be altered without the express permission of the owners. Any distribution must include the Nightsoft license. Any subsequent versions not contracted by Nightsoft remain the property of Nightsoft if based on original company property. Nightsoft reserves and retains all rights.
