Why can't I connect
to a room?
1. Why can't I connect to a room? Usually, not being able to connect to a room has to do you your firewall or being on a network. Consult a file located in your VP3 folder called firewall.txt in order to see how to correctly configure your firewall. If all else fails, turn the firewall off. If that did not work, make sure the path to the vp3.exe file is correct. To check this, click on Gamespy, then options, then the games tab. In the program location box, type the correct path to VP3.exe. 2. I have Windows XP and it has a built in firewall. How do I disable it? Click on Start and choose Control Panel. Select Network and Internet Connections. Select Network Connections. Highlight your connection, right click and choose properties. Click on the Advanced tab and uncheck the box that says: "Protect my computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer from the internet." 3. When I enter a room, I get a message that says your version is too old. What does this mean? It means exactly what it says. You'll need to download the latest patch for Virtual Pool 3. The current patch version is 3.099 and can be found here: http://www.celeris.com/ftp/vp3p3099.exe Most likely, you're trying to patch a pirated version of the game. The patch will not work on pirated versions. Your only solution is to purchase a full retail copy of the game. 5. When I try to join a room I get a message telling me that the CD is not in the CD drive. You need to download the patch and install it. If that fails check to see if you have white label version by Virgin. If you do have the white label release, you will not be able to join a room. 6. I own the white label version of Virtual Pool 3. Am I screwed? No. Virgin will replace your version for a working one if you send them your game. You may send your white label copy to Virgin for a replacement here:

In a challenge room, the winner of the game stays at the table till someone beats him. Challenge rooms are good for quick play with several people. A normal room is one in which you can select to play a set of games with another player, specifying the match length and rules. For example, you can set a match of 9 ball for 5 games in normal mode. The default chat key is / . Type your message and send it with Enter. 10. How do I make a private room? There is currently no way to make a room private other than placing the word "private" in the room name. Select a game from the list at the top and press join. 12. I'm trying to join a room but see no list of games. You must own the VP3 CD and have the latest patch. If you do have those items, click on Gamespy in the upper left hand corner and choose scan for games. If this does not find your vp3 game, you will have to manually input the path to the vp3 executable file. Check Gamespy help for more information on how to set the path to your game. Click on "create game" from the top of your Gamespy screen. Choose normal or challenge mode and enter a room name then press OK. 14. Is there any way to find out what room my friend is in? No. VIP which stands for the Virtual International Player's Ladder is a ranking system. You may choose to play or play for fun. For more information on VIP ladder, consult the VIP ladder website. 16. What do I do if someone did not report a VIP match? First wait 24 hours. If they have not reported by then, e-mail them to remind them to report. If all else fails contact the VIP ladder administrator at: support@vipladder.com . 17. What does it mean to call a shot? Certain games require players to call their shots. This means that a specific ball must go into a specific pocket. The ball is good as long as it goes into the correct pocket no matter how it gets there. In order to call a shot, press ctrl c. If you make the wrong ball or make the ball in an incorrect pocket you must press ctrl m to miscall. 18. What games are call shot games? Straight pool, bowlliards, 8 ball midwest, honolulu, bank pool, basic pocket billiards. 19. In call shot games do I have to call every ball? In most instances, players only need to call unobvious shots. This includes caroms, combinations, banks, kicks, jumps, and most anything other than a simple cut shot. If there could be a question about which ball is to be made, call it. 20. What video cards have issues with VP3?
