How To I Made Tecmo Rose Bowl

I get a lot of emails from this website, but the one that I get more than any other is people asking how I made Tecmo Rose Bowl, so that they can do the same. Since my answer is always the same, I figured it would be easier for everyone if I just made a page about how to do it.

First, you should go to Tecmo Super Bowl Heaven and download Tecmo Super Bowl Manager. With this you can change player names, ratings and faces. You can also change team names, team uniform colors, and team playbooks. If your team names end up looking screwy, it's because you made them too long. I forget what the limit is, but there is one, which is why some of the teams in Tecmo Rose Bowl don't have the full team name (like the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets).

If you want to edit any other text in the game, then you need to find a Hex editor. The one I use is called Axe. With this you can change everything from the copyright dates to the names of the plays to what it says when you score. The one main limitation with this, is you can only make the text you enter equal to or shorter in length than the text that existed previously. With a program like Axe you can search through the code for the word you are looking to replace. There is no rhyme or reason to how where the text is found in the code, but it's all there somewhere.

Finally, there are the graphics. This is probably the toughest and trickiest part of the whole thing. You should get Nesticle, and go to edit patterns. This will show you all of the graphics on the screen in a wierd, hard to read table, but again they are all there, it just takes a long time to figure out which one is which. Once you do there are also a very limited number of colors you can use. This is why the teams in Rose Bowl aren't in the correct conferences and why some don't have the right helmets.

Unfortunately, with this approach to editing the game does have severe limitations, but it can get you as far as I got with Tecmo Rose Bowl. I'm sure there are more effective ways to editing the rom, but it seems like nobody in the Tecmo community really knows what these ways are. Anyway, this is all I know, so good luck.
