Getting More Out of Tecmo

Tecmo Super Bowl is undoubtedly an amazing game. At the same time it has been around for almost ten full years now. So what can you do to keep it fresh and interesting, especially when you're just beating the tar out of computer opponents? Well here are some ways to get more out of Tecmo (many of which you undoubtedly already do by nature), either as a challenge or just in terms of fun (by the way, these aren't all my original idea, many of these are stuff that's been talked about on the Tecmo Message Board over the years).

  • Try to get a 300 yard passer, 150 yard receiver, and 100 yard passer all in the same game.
  • Try to miss your extra points - it's really, really tough.
  • Score as many points as you possibly can, by any means necessary (including playing the worst team, with all of their backups in, with the worst imaginable playbook) - then try to beat that record.
  • Nailing guys after touchdowns, to try and make them fumble and lose their stats.
  • Trying to hold the computer to zero offensive yards in both rushing and passing.
  • Put all of the worst players in the league on one Pro-Bowl team and use them against the computer-controlled All-Pro players.
  • Try scoring a touchdown with every play in your playbook in the same game.
  • Against humans, try to score using the worst play (if it's a flea-flicker or reverse or something awful) in your playbook - it's incredibly demoralizing for them.
  • Try to get a rushing TD, a passing TD, a special teams TD and a defensive score (either S or TD) all in the same game (exclude the defensive one when playing humans).
  • Allow yourself to get points on defense. many safeties in a game as possible
  • If worst comes to worst: try coach mode.

  • Re-create the Buffalo Bill's legendary comeback: You are the Bills and the Comp is the Oilers. Make sure the Oilers kick off to start the game so you get the ball in the second half. Let the Oilers score exactly 35 pts in the first half (game genie codes will help you on this), and you only score 3 pts. If you play on Nesticle or any other emulator, save the game at halftime so you can re-play this game if you fail. Now you have the whole second half to make the legendary comeback.
