What is this about?| |______________________| I have played Skies of Arcadia a whole lot. You could call it an obsession. After playing the game for a while, I got the bright idea to make perfect save with characters at level 99 and max stats. After working on the save for a while, I begun to think about how frustrating it would be to loose that save. I was trying to come up with a way to make a backup of your save without buying a VMU such like a Nexus memory card which allows you to link the card up to a PC and copy files over. I got the idea for this method after reading a Phantasy Star Online board. People there were talking about methods of backing up a character. I later tried the method in this FAQ and found it to work. Unfortunately, this requires internet access on the Dreamcast. I hope people that are able to use this find this FAQ useful. ______________________ |2. What do I need? | |______________________| 1 - A Dreamcast that is setup to go online and has E-mail access. 2 - A computer with E-mail access. 3 - Web Browser version 2.0 or above. ______________________ |3. How do I do it? | |______________________| This is a long job to do this, but it is worth it! This will also work with Pinta's Quest and any other file on the VMU. 1 - Start up your Dreamcast with the Web Browser disk inside. 2 - Log online and go to your E-mail. 3 - Send yourself a message. When making the message, attach your saves to the message and send it to yourself. Note -- You can attach multiple VMU files when sending the attachment. 4 - Log offline on your Dreamcast and log online with your computer. 5 - With your computer, open the message that you sent to yourself with the Dreamcast and download the attachments. 6 - Save the attached saves to a folder on your computer. 7 - You now have a copy of your save(s) on your computer. You can now save them to a floppy, burn them to a CD-R or whatever you want to do with it, even modify the saves if you have the right programs and knowledge of how the save files work. 8 - Under Windows Explorer, the saves should appear like: S.ARCADIA001 S.ARCADIA002 S.ARCADIA003 Etc... 9 - When you want to copy the files back to your Dreamcast, you will have to rename the file slightly. Use Windows Explorer, Right click on the file and click 'Rename' Now rename the files and add .VMS to the end. Example : S.ARCADIA001 Would change to : S.ARCADIA001.VMS Change the name of all the files that you want to copy back to VMU. 10 - On your computer, log online and create a new E-mail message. On that message, attach the save files and send the message to yourself. 11 - Log offline on your computer and log online with your Dreamcast. 12 - Open your E-mail on the Dreamcast and open the message that you just sent to yourself on the computer. If you are lucky, on the bottom of that message you will see a button that says Attachments. Click the button, and hopefully, you should be taken to a screen where you will save the file(s) to the VMU. If you don't see the Attachments at the bottom of the message, and the message is mainly garble, go back to step 9. 13 - Once the file has been saved, log offline on the Dreamcast, Turn the Dreamcast off. 14 - Insert the Skies of Arcadia disk. And load the save that you just downloaded to your VMU. If all works well, your done! If it doesn't work, retry. ______________________ |4.
