AT LAST!! Metal Slug pics are here!

MadMan's Cafe has posted the 1st pictures of Metal Slug: 1st Mission! The screens are looking great, although they're low quality pictures, you can see the graphics are looking fantastic, with well shaded characters and impressive backdrops. Wonderful!!

Late Breaking News...
Magic Box does it once again...here's the relevant SNK news they posted today

  • SNK and Sony are working together on a new device to link up the Playstation/PS2 together with Neo Geo Pocket Color
  • They [SNK] are very interested in bringing together characters from Virtua Fighter and Tekken, plus their SNK characters to start a brand new fighting game series, if they can reach to an agreement with Sega and/or Namco
  • SNK is developing a new detachable NGPC, the machine will have separate (radio controlled) controller and LCD screen, which allows two players to play on the same machine with 2 controllers
  • Working with other companies will be a big trend in the future, other than Capcom, SNK is also planning to work together with Sega, Sony, Namco and Konami to jointly produce new products to stimulate the market

    New Editorial
Well, to make up for the lack of updates due to a total lack of almost anything newsworthy, Torture has written a fantastic and very interesting Editorial entitled "Handhelds - A Gaming Paradise?". It covers the very interesting invirontment created by competition in the handheld inustry, and the unusual ways it can transform the entire videogame industry. Please check it out in the Editorials section

    Tele Pocket
Magic Box has reported that SNK is developing a TV tuner, to be released in Japan before the end of the year. Very cool! Color TV in the palm of your hand.

    Game News
Magic Box has confirmed storys posted here on Sector: NGP last week, and also some new (and interesting) news as well.
  • The HNG64 port of Beast Busters, as reported here on S:NGP has been confirmed to be in development
  • Gekka No Kenshi: The Last Blade is planned for an August
  • Capcom's Rockman (Megaman) game will be not just a port, but a whole new series. Featuring such modes Link Battle, and even a Fighting mode
  • Also as we previously reported, Samurai Shodown has been delayed, and is now planned to ship on June 10th. However, Magic Box says May 10th, we expect they simply miscalculated, because SNK of Japan still says June
  • Neo Geo Pro Baseball has been delayed until June 10th (???? I didn't even know there was a game by that name. Possibly an alternate translation, or name change?)

And by far the most exciting news of all...Sony is planning to release original software for Neo Geo Pocket, and is very interested in making the NGP linkable with "Playstation 2," Sony's next system. Last fall it was confirmed that Sony was interested in making NGP titles, so this news is expected. But they very intriguing part is to imagine what Sony could to for the NGP as a whole. The possibilities are very cool...one can easily imagine Sony bringing 3rd parties with them, like Square, Konami, additional support from Namco, etc. This could be the huge boost for NGPC, that propels it far and beyond Wonderswan. We look forward to more news on this subject

    New Imports
Substance J here with a rather early morning update (early for me anyway..). NCS (www.ncsx.com) has announced that import versions of Biomotor Unitron, Crush Roller, and Neo Geo Cup '98 Plus will be available on Wednesday, April 21th!! I cannot wait for Neo Geo Cup in Color, since NGC'98 was my favorite (and still is) NGP game. However, I will be waiting for our prefered importers (www.tronixweb.com, www.therage.com) to stock the titles before ordering.

    Puzzle Bobble!
LitPhoenix has contributed a fantastic, in-depth review of Puzzle Bobble, which has been added to the Games section. Don't miss it!

    New Games
Although this was posted lastnight, I forgot to update the News section to reflect it. Beast Busters and Neo Turf Masters have been added to the Coming Soon section, and the dates are currently TBA. Beast Busters is actually a port of SNK's Hyper Neo Geo 64 lightgun shooter of the same name, which is now being ported to Sega's Naomi hardware, and then to Sega Dreamcast. Thus, DC Link support is to be included. ADK is now making NGP's 1st Interaction/Dating-Sim, called Graduation Photograph. It's also listed as TBA. We hope to get a hold of screens and info soon

    SNK WWW Overhaul
SNK has updated the English section of its Japanese NGP homepage (Funny, eh?). It now offers pictures and info on current and previewed NGPC games! Fantastic! Have a look, at http://www2.neogeo.co.jp/en/index.html. Thanks a lot to Forum-goer Chris for mentioning this to us!

    General Game News
Torture here, the illustrious Magic Box has updated with some interesting NGP info.
  • Sacnoth, developer of Dive Alert, is currently working on a Playstation RPG, Koudelka. They and SNK are working to bring this to the NGP.
  • The SNK vs. Capcom card battle will include most of the characters from each company, and the game size will exceed 36 megabits. The game will likely span more than one part because of NGP's cart size limit. Since nothing is confirmed, we will keep an eye on how SNK handles this.
  • An arcade version of SNK vs. Capcom will not come out until over a year after the NGP version.
  • SNK will be working with Konami to co-develop games. This is just speculation, but through this deal, Konami titles may show up on NGP since no format is specified.
  • SNK also announced that all future Color games will still work with the original system.
  • Brought to my attention in the forum, SegaX and Magic Box both report that SNK will offer free admission to their Tokyo Neo Geo World for all who bring their NGP Color systems with them.

    Game dates, Etc
Some various bits of new collected from SNK's US and Japanese sites, and other sources.
  • Dive Alert: Burn Version - May (Japan), Summer (North America)
  • Dive Alert: Rebecca Version - May (Japan), Summer (North America)
  • Fatal Fury - May 27th (Japan), Summer (North America)
  • Metal Slug - May 27th (Japan), Summer (North America)
  • Samurai Shodown 2 - June (Japan, Summer (North America)
One very curious bit, which is quite obvious, is Dive Alert shipping in what appears to be two separate games! The names refer to the two main characters (Burn and Rebecca)...a very interesting choice on the part of Sacnoth (the developers). Also, Torture has translated a few other release lists, and discovered that Gal Fighters is actually being developed by Yumekobo, and not SNK directly. The info translated by Torture has of course, been add to the Coming Soon section.
    Notice
We're currently falling a bit behind (again), as you can tell. A lack of ever important free time, and clear information from our sources is mostly causing the problem, and we are currently working to strenghten our connections with other major sites, and really complete Sector: NGP so we can start regular updates once again. It has been foolish to promise updates over the past few days, so from now on, what you see is what you get. Thanks for bearing with us, because things will be picking up again, soon

    New games
SNK of Japan has updated their website with pictures and info (in Japanese) on many new games. We've used this to update our Games section, by adding new previews of Biomotor Unitron, Neo Geo Cup 98 Plus, Professional Baseball, and more are on the way.
    NGO is at it agian
    Torture here...
Next Generation Online posted sales figures for the Neo Geo Pocket Color. But as always, thay had to take a shot at the NGPC. First of all, for the week March 15th -21st, Wonderswan sold 23,192. NGO took it upon themselves to call NGPC's sales of 18,809 mediocre right after. The only problem here is that they didn't correct themselves from last time, and they forgot to mention that it sold that many in only 3 days. Consider the Wonderswan sold slightly more and had the whole week. I am unsure if NGO even realized this based on their previous mistake, implying the launch date was a week earlier than reality.

    Delayed updates
There has been a slight delay in posting some information on the site, due to IGNmail being unavailable (due to server upgrades), and lack of free time. Updates should be a bit more regular for a while, from now on.
Kelvin Koh KOF R-2 FAQ update
Kelvin Koh has sent in his updated King of Fighters R-2 FAQ, and it can be found in the Games section. Thanks buddy!
    Baseball Stars review

    Neo Geo Freak Magazine
The current issue of Neo Geo Freak Magazine is now available at import bookstores and via mail order. It features previews of Dive Alert, Fatal Fury: 1st Contact, and various other NGPC games. And on the MVS front, Metal Slug X. We hope to procure a copy for scanning purposes.
