SNK vs. Capcom: The Match of the Millennium review by Adam M. Karonika

SNK vs. Capcom : Match of the Millenium is a fighting game starring many SNK and Capcom characters. For all those people who have wondered, "Who would win, Street Fighter (and all other Capcom fighters) or King of Fighters (plus the other SNK fighting games)?" THIS, friends, is the answer!

Graphics
The backgrounds in this game are very detailed, and animated, too. The shore and Krauser's stage (the opera house thingie) are my personal favorites. The sprites, like KOF-R2, however, all are pale white, as far as skin goes, except for Zangief, and also Akuma (sorry if it's a spoiler; he IS a secret character). For example, Ryu's gi and skin are white, his eyes are black, and his headband and gloves are red. Still, the graphics are still wonderful, and this is one of the best-looking NGPC games out there.
Score: 9/10

Sound
The sound effects in this game are functional. There's the "Wack! Ka-pow!" for light and hard punches and kicks, the "Fa-woom!" for fireballs, the "Ba-bling!" for selecting a character/option, and the "Ching!" for moving the cursor. Sadly, there's no voice, not even an announcer saying "Round 2, Fight!" or "You win!" ala Street Fighter 2. The music for the SNK characters from KOF-R2 are the same sounding, except they seem to have an instrument added in; Kyo's theme is totally different from R2, though. The Capcom characters sound much better than Game Boy (listen to the Street Fighter 2 music and then this), but not as good as Game Boy Advance (duh). I LOVE Dan's theme, as well as Krauser's theme, which I am pretty sure is "Dies Irae" by Mozart. The sound and music, in short, are very good, but could be a little better.
Score: 8.5/10

Gameplay
This game is very easy to play. The mini-joystick makes combos and supers just roll off my thumb. As for the two action buttons, tap the button for a light attack, press it for a strong attack. This gets the job done very well. The learning curve is about 30 minutes; I rember I couldn't even shoot Hadokens, but later, I could do any special at my own ease! There are 3 play modes: Single, like in Street Fighter 2, Tag, like in Street Fighter v. X-men, and Team, like in King Of Fighters. There is also the Olympic mode, where you play mini-games to earn Versus points, which can be used to buy new moves! The minigames, mostly, are short and mindless; Felecia does a take on Dance Dance Revolution; Jubei chops straw dolls; Arthur jumps ravines to collect treasure chests; Marco and Fio shoot down aliens, similar to Area 51 (my friends LOVE this minigame, and I do too). There is also Time attack, where you, with unlimited health, KO 5 enemies as fast as you can; First blast, where you face 10 enemies with minimal health (both of you) and do your most powerful move before you are KO-ed; and finally, Survival, where you fight 5 enemies at a time on a single life-bar, which increases slightly between foes. In all, this game is very easy to play.
Score: 10/10

This game is a must-have for NGPC; whether you are a fan of fighting games or not (it made ME a believer!).
