Samurai Shodown! 2 review by InTheInferno
This is the first SS! I've ever played, and this little wonder is sure a good first impression to the one and only SS! Series!
Graphics: A+ = ))
The graphics in this game are top notch. The characters are wonderfully animated all cute and crisp in SD style. Character's sprites consist of two or three colors, which may sound bad but it isn't, since the characters still look terrific! Plus that, SNK sure did a good job in animating all the moves as they look just like they looked before.
Sound: B = ?
The sound is not very bad, but gets pretty annoying after a while. Though I like some of the melody's, most of them suck. Hit sounds are nice, and sometimes funny. Each character has his/her unique melody, which I find is good. Overall the music is a little annoying but pretty good after all.
Gameplay: A = )
This is probably the most fun you ever need from a fighting game. Each character has two unique styles of fighting-Bust and Slash, so you get over 30 characters to choose from. What's very neat about this game is that you don't have all the character's moves right away, you need to find and collect them! You have the possibility to collect 2 special move cards, and two cards that boost your performance (defensively or offensively). You can choose what two cards you will use before each battle, and you can collect each card up to eight times, so you can have spares to trade with and for. Also when you do a super move a picture of your character appears in the background which adds more uniqueness to the game. Each character has plenty of moves (except Charlotte) which you WILL like, and which you would want to hit with again and again (and again)… personally I can't get my hands of it because of that. Only two microscopic complaints: the game's not very challenging (that is for fighting game freaks), and no pr actice or team mode, but I don't care since those are little addons which could be nice but not necessary.
Control: A+
NeoGeo pocket's unique controller enables ALL moves in this game to be super easy to pull off! Even a F, B, DB+ A, or a F, B,DF, F + A and stuff like that. I never got disappointed (only very rarely super moves don't work probably because I 'm nervous) So don't be scared when you see the manual =P!
Overall: A
I simply LOVE this game. If you were looking for a great fighting game all those years then buy yourself an NGPC and get this little cartridge. After playing this one you'll wonder why you ever even like Street Fighter, I'm Serious! For a fan of the series it's an absolute MUST BUY, for a fighting game it's a MUST BUY as well and for just a video game freak this is the game was made for you. It's a perfect translation and an instant classic! BUY IT, PLAY IT!!!! (sorry for the long review guyz)
