Cotton review by Bluefour

The Neo Geo Pocket's first offering in the field of old school horizontal scrolling shooting is fun, fast, challenging, and, well, goofy. (in a good way) You take the roll of a witch flying on a broom, who can shoot out magic.

Graphics: B
The graphics are fairly well done, but aren't as colorfull and animated as games such as Metal Slug Second Missions. It should be noted that there is some background animation, and parallax in a couple of places. They look nice, but I wish those two graphic enhancements were used more often. There are nicely done (and very funny) animeish cutscenes in between each level. These are a nice touch.

Gameplay: A
This is where the game succeeds the most. The actual control is standard shooter stuff. B is drop downward attacks; A is fire; and charging A lets you shoot magic. As you get powerups your weapons gets more uh powerful. The best thing about the gameplay is how fast and challenging it is. I haven't noticed any slowdown, and there are plenty of enemies to rain magical fairy death on. The later levels, (and especially their bosses) are very challenging. If you beat this game on one continue, you are good; if you beat it on one life you are a shooter demi-god.

Sound: C+
Well, its adequate at least. The fireing and explosion noises are good, and the music, although very forgetable, suits the game.

Overall: A-
A great detour from the world of 1 on 1 fighting. The first traditional shooter is worthy of the NGP legacy. Recommended to all shooter fans.
