T'Pau Registry Number NSP-17938
Prototype NSP-2000 T'Pau Mk. IIa

The original T'Pau, also known as Federation Apollo Class was decommissioned in 2364 and assigned to the Starfleet surplus depot in orbit around planet Qualor II. In 2368, parts of the T'Pau's navigational deflector array were discovered in the wreckage of a Ferengi cargo shuttle. Investigation of the unauthorized parts transfer led to the discovery that the T'Pau had been surreptitiously acquired by the Romulans troops during an attempted invasion of planet Vulcan in 2368. When the attempted invasion was exposed by Ambassador Spock, the Romulans destroyed the ship to avoid capture.
TNG "Unification, Part I"
It is often doubted that the T'Pau is actually one of the three ships shown at the end of TNG: "Unification II" because the navigational deflector of the ship is missing. However, considering that the ship is urgently needed and stealing still another ship as a replacement would be an unnecessary risk, the T'Pau is obviously used without being fully operational, or the Romulans have cared for sufficient spare parts to repair the three ships under all circumstances. The Fact Files suggest that the T'Pau is indeed one of the three ships of the Romulan invasion fleet.

The ship was presumably named after the Vulcan dignitary from TOS "Amok Time".
The T'Pau Mk. II is a new Heavy Cruiser, based on the original T'Pau, but retrofitted with the latest of Federation & Vulcan technologies.  There are two variants
  • T'Pau Mk. IIa (silver/metal) is a long range, exploration and research vessel, attached to the UFP.
  • T'Pau Mk. IIb (brown) is a fast interceptor / strike cruiser attached to the Vulcan Navy
