The canvass action is one of the major early actions to gain support in the areas in which you deploy it. Depending on the area you use it, you should generally see a 25-40 point (out of 100) increase in your support ratings, although this can rise or lower depending on whether it was successful and the level of the action that the person performing the action has.
Slider Bar, available for a few seconds near the start of the action. You can choose to spread a message of Capitalism, Freedom or Solidarity; your choice should depend on the area you choose and your faction ideology.
Depending on who and what you choose as variables to the action, what you see on screen may well differ from my screenshots. This walkthough shows you how the action unfolds - for specific game help and hints about actions see other parts of my site or the manual. The ingame tutorial will also help.

Here we are in the game world. |
Clicking on the faction member in question brings up his list of actions, and clicking "Canvass" brings up the details. Quite a nice cheap action, this one. |
Clicking the tick drops us into the map screen as usual. I haven't scouted any of the other areas yet so I can only choose the district that my HQ is in. Let's click it then... |
... and select an area in the district to perform the action. Again, at the start of the game you are likely to only have one available place. Later in the game, you may run this action again and have various places to choose from, each with an important secrecy level. Somehow I don't think that the factions in the area will be too pleased with my unwelcome intrusion. |
Clicking on the red dot brings up "Oleg's Beer and Spirits", which is the lowly area I intend to canvass. Notice the secrecy level and the faction ideology indicating "-20%". Because my action, which is fairly Influence based is being done in a Force area this will knock my success (Force beats Influence - it's like Paper, Scissors, Stone). |
OK the action has been finalised and you can see it in the diary. See the icon before the action icon? That clock signifies that the person is sleeping during this time slot. |
OK - our time slot comes up... |
... and here's our guy in his car trundling to his canvassing location. |
Whilst he is driving, the action tweaker appears, allowing to to select what sort of message you want to portray to the people you meet. Choosing one that please the local people and is in line with your ideology is an important one. You can choose either freedom... |
...capitalism... |
...or solidarity. |
OK - we continue driving... |
... until we pull over and stop. |
Better get out of the road! |
That's better... |
We now start walking in a fairly nice area... |
.. and continue walking.. |
... and then some more, to our less than beautiful location. One does wonder why our hero doesn't just park in the car park... |
... it's a fairly large one after all. |
Anyway, we're here now, so let's walk up to the door... |
... and give it a knock. |
Something tells me that this guy actually has a "No canvassers please" sticker on the door - he looks a little angry. |
Ooooh, what a scowl. |
But what's this? If you look at the clock in the previous section the time slot is nearly over, and now we have gone to the next slot, the action... finishes. Actually - the action is still successful (I checked the map screen), but not being able to watch it all was kinda annoying. All that damn walking made him late! |
But never fear! RepRev never let's his visitors leave unfulfilled, so let's try again. I've skipped the repetitive part and our "hero" is ready to knock on the same door again. |
A new guy opens the door this time (two men living together???), but he still doesn't seem too happy at the intrusion. |
Undeterred, I get out my clipboard and papers... |
.. which he duly looks at... |
... and signs. Woohoo! |
Well, that was good. Looking at the map screen I have gained around 27 extra support points in the area. Nice work lads. Right - let's have another go at the action, just to see if anything new happens... |
This time my guy parks in the right place - just outside the building I sent him to. He kinda annoyed the driver behind him though who had to swerve out to avoid hitting him. Looked pretty realistic. |
See that red light? Methinks I won't find any kids opening the door here... |
And indeed we don't. |
Rather annoyingly, for the purposes of this report, the guy doesn't shove the door in my face, but again decides to sign it. But notice the cool light effect - the red light above the door has illuminated the clipboard papers to a light pink. |
And finally, the door is closed, and my committed faction dude wanders off to the next task I have for him. It's a hard life! |
