News & Info for May 2000 - Feb 2001...
February 08, 2001. One more new map. Another beautiful map "Laon" (France). Original 132, but was moved to 133, as 132 is already taken.
February 04, 2001. More maps, "Ardenne3" (Belgium), "Southen2" (Southeast England), "Tarakan" (Papua New Guinea) and the long awaited "Narva" map!. Updates of "Dieppe" and "Toulon".

I really got to hand it to some of you map maker, - you really know what you are doing! Some of the maps (many) are really a lot better then the original SSI maps. Well actual its not SSI that made them in the first place, its two guys from "Avalanche games". Anyway if someone ever picks up on a "real" Panzer General III :) game, I am sure some of you will be contacted to make some of the maps. Just for one second stop and just look at some of the maps. Look at the details that is in some of them. Awesome!

The Datup has been updated.

January 22, 2001. Two new maps, "Matruh" (Egypt), and "Belomorsk" (Russia). Updates of "Arras" and "Messina". Could someone take a look at the 121 name file, cause it does not fit the map very well at all. It is actually in a mess.
January 20, 2001. Many new maps, 13 to be exact. I think I should have them all now. Here goes "Agheila" (Egypt -Sinai Penninsula), "Bataan2" (Philippines), "Darwin" (Australian), "Dover" (England) and "Hongkong" (China), "IwoJima7" (Japan), "Jerusa67" (Isral), "Lae" (Papua New Guinea), "Lingayn2" (Philippines) and "Marshall" (Micronesia -USA), "Moresby" (Papua New Guinea), "Nomonhan" (China) and "Pelelieu" (Micronesia -USA).

Ok, I know I have received an increatable about of new scenarios from many people - thank you for that. I have not really tried any of them, cause I have been distracted with other things. However I should be able to try some of them in the coming time. I don't just put thinks up on my web site, I need to try them first, that is why your new scenario is not on this web site - yet. Well that is just the way I am. This should not sound like I am some test guru or something, that needs to check it all. This is my page, and I put quality over quantity. This is so that I and you can be sure that everything you download here works.

December 19, 2000. I received a early Christmas present today. A Japanese version of Panzer General II - I am not kidding you a Japanese version!! Thank you very much Olivier Bialoblocki, your trade is on the way in a few days. You can read about it on the "version&patches" page.

Well and now...My version of a High prestige Efile. When I say high, I am not saying it for fun, it IS high!!

The first thing you will noticed is the extreme high prizes of most units, especial of late war tanks and 5-6 range Artillery. I realize that this will almost immediately scare quite a few people away. There is nothing I can do about that. Some will argue hard and long that this IS too extreme and renames the game to Infantry General. I don't think so. However If you can overcome your initial shock, it is in fact quite good.

This is a Campaign Efile. Its not meant to be used on existing campaigns, as it is not designed for them. If you are looking for all kind of fancy units, you have come to the wrong place! There are
other equipment files out there that has fare more of that. If however you are looking for an equipment file that offers real purchase choices and decision in a campaign - not fictional or artificitial - but real choices, you are at the right place. This is off course a statement that depends on the campaign or scenarios designers way of doing
things. As said there is NO campaign designed for this Efile as of speaking. Further more this Efile have currently the largest number of small nation units. I have not focused on giving German, UK, US and Russia many more units. All small nations now have enough units to actually build scenarios with them in it.

This equipment file is 99% compatible with the original v1.02 SSI equipment file. It is, though, 100% compatible with the SSI scenarios and campaigns. This is off course do to the fact that I have not changes any unit used by those scenarios. However the original SSI campaign does play radical difference do to the much large/smaller prestige cost for some units  - and I really mean that!

Download on the new "BP Equipment" page.

The Datup and Soundup has been updated.

December 17, 2000. 5 new maps. Some of them are not really new, but I missed them on the mappage. Anyway here goes  "London" (England), "Vistula" (Poland), "Guadalcanal2" (Pacific), "Monte Cassino 2" (Italy) and "Shusselburg" (Russia). The Maikop map has been updated. A top map got better :)

The US manual in Acrobat reader format (PDF) is now available on "Info&Spec" page.

December 04, 2000. Ahh, finally found a new place for the maps, and I decided to move all of Builders Paradise to this location also. I have forever moved from Fortunecity, and I am not going back there again.

The map site should now be working, so that you can download the maps you need. Its not entirely up to speed, a few maps are missing (new maps), but they should comes as soon as possible.

The Datup has been updated, again with a horde of new icons. The Soundup has also been updated.

Three docs added to the site. Random leaders awards, How to install patch v1.02 and Italian translation of the campaign builder note, by Dave Anderson. You can find that on the Info&spec page.

November 08, 2000. Since Fortunecity ones again went wild on me, the map site is now full of broken links. So quite a few maps are not downloadable. I am on the lookout for a better place, and it will be fixed as soon as possible. Please don't send any more Emails about broken links on the maps page - you are practical flooding my mail box.
October 26, 2000. 8 new maps. Steve Brown went map crazy and made 5 new map "El Guetar" (Tunisia), "Fondouk" (Tunisia), "Casablanca" (Morocco), "Biak" (New Guinea) and "Hollandia" (New Guinea). Also a map by Paul Carlisle "Gazala" (Libya) and Thirsty "Ponyri" (Russia - this is the Zitadelle North map), and reworked, which is actual an almost new map  "Bunagon2". The Volga map has been updated. I simply adore this map.
I have received quite a few scenarios. I have not looked at all, cause my foremost concern right now is to finish my Efile. And that drags on and on. Every time I think now I have it right, I find something new.

So if you are one of those that send me scenarios - just keep on doing so - but don't think I have dump your scenario, because I don't answer right away. I just have a higher priority right now. I WILL look at your scenario.

However I have looked at this scenario, quite much. The map is the Volga map, and I am crazy about that map. I really think this is one of the top 5 best maps ever. The scenario for it is off course a Stalingrad scenario. But this one is exceptional good. This "Stalingrad" scenario by Hannes Gruber is a pure piece of art.

Hannes Gruber has have the same problem as anybody else that want to build a Stalingrad scenario (or any other large scenario for that matter), you quickly run short of units. 100 units (max in v1.02)  per player is simply not enough to build a Battalion size scenario for a place like Stalingrad. Even using Regiment size units for the Russians, its getting tight. Never the less Hannes Gruber has made one hell of a scenario.

This is a LARGE scenario, and is an attack and defense scenario all in ones. You really get the feeling of the enormous amount of trouble the Germans had taking this city. If you play this like a blitz scenario you are in for a catastrophically lose of life. The Russians are prepared for you, and you got to fight for every single hex in Stalingrad. You do have many unit, but it never seems to be enough.

I played it 5 times yesterday. 3 vs. the AI and 2 vs. my self. Because of that I have classified it as a single player scenario, even though it might have been designed as a multiplayer scenario. I simply cannot see you every winning it as the German vs. another Human. Never the less it is an increatable rush to play this scenario. I have not felt so mind stimulated since I played the Mersa el Brega scenario in Steve Browns BWDC camp the first time. And that is a kick! First time I played it vs. the AI, I got creamed pure and simple!

The key to victory is keeping your airforce alive (which is not difficult against the AI). They are your guarding angles on you shoulders. They can attack almost freely in the city. Your 24th Pz. Div. and the two Stug's from 6th Army are the ones that have to cope with almost all Russian armor, so take good care of them. 16th Pz. Div. in the north will have enough to do on there own. You might think you have enough infantry, but you need every single strength point in the city fight. They are the ones that will win this scenario for you.

This is such a good (and long scenario) that this gets the 2nd highest award on BP - Knight's Cross with Oakleaves and Swords.  Along with the silver bar for close combat. This makes it the highest ranking scenario on BP - and it deserves it! Very very nice work Hannes Gruber.

The Datup have been updated with many new icons, as well as the Soundup has been updated with 1 new sound, and hopefully the bug in it is gone (I can really be sure as I cant recreate it). And last. Here is a list of all movement types in PGII, and what they do.

October 08, 2000. 8 new maps in all. "Golan Heights" (Isral), "El Arish" (Sina), "Jungle" (Fictonal) and "Korsun" (Russia). 4 new maps by Marco Infortugno. He is damm good at making maps "Nice", "Toulon", "Deippe" and "Arras" all in France. They are very very nice (one does however seam a little out of focus), and it the first maps I have ever seen with road makings - yes there is actual lanes on the road. Don't know if they had these things in the 40's, but it sure look nice.  "Maltawst" has been updated.

There is no doubt that map making is better then is was before, cause all 8 map a very nice maps.

The Datup has been updates with a horde of new icons.

On top of that there is a new sound upgrade. This is the same sound as the one found on Oronzo's Web page. But the download size has been decreased by a factor 5.5, by shire compression. Also all the "ticks" in the end (and in the middle) of a lot of sound has been corrected, the volume has been more or less standardized, as well as some sounds has been shorten to fit PGII better - 9s sound file does not really fit unit sounds of PGII!!. This new sound upgrade is found on the Equipment page.

The Builders Paradise Forum has now changed to the EzBoard. Please don't post there anymore, but on the new one. You are quite welcome to repost messages from the old board to the new board, if you find something good.

September 08, 2000. 5 new maps "Ardenne2" (Belgium), "Maltawst" (Between Malta and Italy), "Bastogne" (France), "Bangkok" (Thailand) and finally "Myschkowa" (South Russia), this is the very map where operation Winter Tempest was fought on. Also a few *.map file has been updated.

The Datup has been updated with over 40 new icons, some of them are very very nice. The flag resource has gone back to the original SSI line up, off course still with the new versions of the flags.

If you have had any trouble with colors using ShpEd this might be it. The PG2 palette supplied with ShpEd is not 100% correct. Here is the correct one, also in the download is the same palette for use with Paint shop pro 6.x.

August 22, 2000. The Corsica map has been updated. 3 new maps "Ameins" (France), "Koenigsb" (Germany) and PeG converted "Saigon" (Vietnam). Some updates on a couple of *.map file.
August 16, 2000. Thought it was about time to bring the maps up to speed again.  There is several new maps. Their is the must impressive "Volga" map, very very beautiful map. Properly one of the top 5 best maps ever. There is "Rostove", as in Rostov East. Another 2 Crete map, "Crete2" and "Kreta2". There is now 5! Crete maps, I don't really think we need any more of them. Also "Mozhaisk" (Russia), "Maknassy" (Tunisia), "Stalag" (fictional), from the "Great Escape" movie with Steve McQueen, "Hanoi" (Vietnam), "Rabaul" (Melanesia),  "Wake" (USA), a Peoples General conversion "Taipei" (Taiwan), which was moved to 155. There is also a remake of Guam, "Guamr" (USA) and finally a new Attu, which was renamed to "Attu2" (USA) as there is already a Attu.

The Datup has been updated for the absolute final time with the Japanese and Chinese flag. The next one will NOT have those two flags. The Datup without casualties forecast has been terminated.

July 18, 2000. The easy icon upgrade has been updated with 17 new icon, several corrections to the Flag1 resource and some other icon corrections.
July 5, 2000. Two new maps. "Messina" and "Gothic" as in the Gothic line in Italy. The are both very good, but the "Messina" map is awesomely beautiful, especial on the overview map. !huh?, - yes it look very good on the overview map, but looks like its a little out of focus in normal view - never the less its fine. "Cairo" and "Crete" has been updated. And "Cairo" is now available. There is now no free number up to 120. I still miss you guys that makes maps, also making the name file. It should be a snap for you, as you sure must know the names of the river, cities m.m you place on the map.

Two more just came in during the upload of the others. "Peenemun" as in Peenemunde, and "Tula", big city, some 150km directly south of Moscow.

June 28, 2000. This is surely the month of maps - another 6!! new ones. Three North-Africa maps, a German, a Fictional and a French. "Benghazi", "Derna", "Cairo", "Corsica", "Eagle" and "Remagen". The "Remagen" map is very beautiful, take a look at the bridge in the upper right corner and the tunnel it leads to, very nice made.  The "Cairo" required some fixes and a redone *.MAP file. The "Nmarine" map has had a fix.

The map "Cairo" and "Bunagona" (a older map) is the only ones that are not downloadable on the map site, as they are both being redone by the creators.

Please let me remind you of this - AGAIN. DON'T send me half finish maps - I AM NOT the one that correct your maps. When you think your map is finish, take a look at it again. Put it up on the screen, sit back in your chair and LOOK at it. Take those 1-2-3 hours extra it take to do just right.

DO NOT use the Shp Ed v0.50 by Fred Chlanda to convert map BMP to map SHP file, as it does not always do a proper color conversion. Instead use the Shp converter by Fred Chlanda. It does it right always and it is much faster.

And for the hundreds time(!!), if you CANNOT figure out how to assign numbers higher the 99, pick up the MAP spec on the "Info&spec" page. Find out where the map number is store, and change it using a hex editor or any other editor you want. It is not hard to do!

The easy icon upgrade has been update with 11 new icons.

June 24, 2000. Two new bugs - like we don't have enough of them. It is actually two old ones, just never got around to update the bug page with it.

The scenario select screen will never show the flags on the right (by the prestige mod selector), for the very first scenario. If you press another scenario first and then go back to the top one, it shows the flags for the previous selected.

The 4th transporter field in "Requisition Unit" does not work correct. Even though some nations have a 4th transporter, it does not show correct. It never show the icon nor name, but you can select it and it will work correct in the game ones bought.

Then I came across this; a Trainer for Panzer General IIID - let my say it again, this work ONLY for the German version, I does NOT work for the US, UK or French version. With this trainer you can change available prestige and what turn it is, directly in the game, by modifying directly in the memory. Download on the "Tools" page

June 22, 2000. More new maps. A new "Oran" map. Actually 2 more maps came in, a "Timor" map and a new "Crete" map. I think that both of them are - well - bad! especially the "Timor" map. It is almost unplayable. Its a Sat photo I believe and you can almost not see what is land and what is ocean. The "Crete" map is somewhat better, but still I think its bad. Just my personally view. They are up as 56 and 120 - so take a look at them.

The Easy icon upgrade has been updated with 17 new icons. If anyone would like to create a list of what every icon is and who made them, they are very welcome. I will include it in the download if you send it to me.

June 20, 2000. New maps simply just keeps puring in. A new "Algiers" map just came in. There is now a staggering 114 maps available for Panzer General II.

I have complied a nice list of Operational codenames from 33-46. Have a look if you are looking for a good theme for a PGII scenario.

German, Western Allies, Russian, Pacific Allies and Japanese.

Well if you know of more operation that had code-names just let me know.

June 19, 2000. Well I am impressed, to say the least. I am actually close to breathless. This Stephen deJong scenario "Advance on the Caucasus" is something I have almost never seen before. You play a fantastic scenario on a beautiful map, well what more do one want. No really, I can not find words to describe this scenario. It is a large scenario with many troops, on a long long front line running northeast to southwest. Then again its not really like a frontline scenario, cause there is plenty of space to move on, then again there is not - confused :). The crossing of the Kuban river is a giant element of the scenario. The Russians might want to try and make a stand on the Kuban river itself, it can be done. The Germans are highly mobile, where the Russians is not, but if the German cant get across the Kuban the mobility don't really mean anything. I love this Kuban river crossing, very fun and can be highly costly for the Germans. I played it 3 time against my self, and 2 time I managed to hold the Germans right on the Kuban, by toughing everything the Russians have right up to the river.

I did a net search for info of this battle, though I could not find info on all units in the battle, it seam to be very correct OOB. The only thing that I could put a finger on was that I/Germ/5SS Wiking, which is on the other river side by the start of the battle, did not get across before 2.30, 4 Aug, but this scenario start the 3 Aug.  - no need to get into details :).

I have no choose then to give this fantastic scenario the first ; Knight's Cross with Oakleaves and Swords.  on Builders Paradise. Congratulation, its well - very well - deserved.

The Map site should now work correct. Two news maps have arrived, a complete Ocean map and "Bona" in Algeria.

June 14, 2000. They just keep poring in those maps. 6 more has just arrived. "Maikop" arrived as 89, which it keeps, "Bunagona" had 83, but was moved to 87, as Kharkov already had that space. "Saipan_tinian" was renamed to just "Saipan" and moved to 106. "Gillbert" was moved to 90. A new "Iwo Jima" also arrived, which was moved to 107, and finialy "Attu" (Alaska), moved to 108.

Btw where exactly is Buna Gona ???

I can understand if two maps arrive almost at the same time with the same number. But if maps arrive that uses number already taken long time ago, it simply says that you don't care to look at the map page to find a number not take. Which means why the hell should I update it if nobody reads it anyway. So please take the time to find a free number before shipping it off too me, it very easy. Don't trust that I will do it for you, after all its your map, not mine!

If you don't know who to assign number higher the 99 to the map (since Charles Tyson map maker cannot do it higher), pick up the spec of the *.MAP file on the Info&Spec page. You can then do it manually with a hex editor.

Talking about that. Though I will bring almost any map that looks like a SSI map or close, I do expect anyone to do the best they can on there own map. Small paint errors here and there does not bother me at all, they are almost unavoidable. My own maps are full of them. But clearly errors in the map, like wrong assembling of the sections(!) or large paint errors you see right away, is only do to the creator not takeing the time it take to do it right. Have a little pride in what you do - and do it right.

Let my remind you that there is NO free number up to 109!!!!!!

Saying that, I would just like to say that Stephen deJong has done it again. Not only does he make excellent map, he also make scenarios that is world class. I think its a bit under-describing, his new Maikop map is simply a piece of art, a new Mona lisa!!. The scenario I am still testing.

June 10, 2000. New maps are arriving pretty fast now. 5 new maps in 10 days. I decided to give Fortunecity another try, this time the US version of it. See if I have better luck with this one. The Map site is pretty much running now. All maps up till 60 are now downloadable, the rest will come within the week. "North Mariana's" was changed to just "NMARIANA". The Cassino map was moved from 58 to 92, as Tunis already had that.

This is a little request to people that makes maps; please supply the names for the maps also, either in form of a text file readable by the map name program or just plain simply the names. Its pretty easy done by the one who makes the map, a little more difficult by all others and they will never be exactly right..

June 01, 2000. Ok the Map site is up again - sort of! Its all remade. The maps CANNOT be downloaded yet, cause I am not sure its going to stay on Fortunecity.com. So please don't mail me saying that and that link is broken, cause the maps are not there yet. That banner does look quite stupid!!. We altually hit 100 Panzer General II maps today. That was with the new Kharkov map. It was moved to 83, it was 95, but that was already taken.

I found a new PBEM bug :(, in a turn send to my by Avenger.  Luckily it cannot happen in many original SSI scenarios. When a paratrooper embarks on a air transporter DIRECTLY after its purchased and flies away it crashes the replay in PBEM. You can read more about it on the bug page under PBEM errors.

May 25, 2000. Two news about the Map site. A bad and a good. The good news is that I can now access it via FTP. The bad is that there is exactly Zero things on it :(. I will wait a couple of days to see if Fortunecity.co.uk somehow restores it (ha), before I upload it all again. Its only 80 Mb :(. My trust in Fortunecity.co.uk has somewhat disappeared. Maybe I will find another site.

The easy icon update has been updated. As has the extra editor. A couple of bug found by Steve Brown and Andreas.

May 22, 2000. The German fix for Mplayer is now ready. Please read very very careful, what to do to get this patch to work in the German version.

I have now played the The Lumberjack Regiment campaign by Dave Anderson. You can read all about it on the campaign page.

May 20, 2000. 3 new scenarios was added to my page. Actually non of them are really new, I just now rellay tried them - serveral times.

The first is Road to Moscow by Slaughter333. I was on Mplayer 2 days ago, and he send me this. First I was somewhat ...hmm.., as this is a massive Tank slugfest. I don't really like them. So I sat down a studied it and tried it serveral time. It was actually pretty good though he had reversed the sides (German beeing Allied). So I did a little changes to it, and here it is. Its a 4 player scenario.

Second there is Road to Minsk by Eric Peterson. This is suposed to be a historical scenario. Its not really historical, the German OOB  may be right, but the units composion cannot be. To many tanks and to little regular inf. Anyway this is a fun scenario, so it does not really matter. Ones again the sides was reversed (German beeing Allied). So I did a little changes again. At first sight this may seem like a walk in the park for the Germans, but it really it not IF the Russian player know when to retreat and when to fight. Combining all Russian armor can mean the difference between success and complete failer. This is a 2 player scenario.

3rd and absolut not last, the fantastic Liptsy scenario by Tony Latta. This is an historical+ scenario. This is not a new scenario, but I first now really sat down an played it many times.

I would have loved to give this the first, Knight's Cross with Oakleaves and Swords  on Builders Paradise, but unfortunately this is not the right map. People should really do what Tony does, build ONE scenario with everything just right, instead of making 10 middle scenario. The possibilities of ways to play this scenario are endless. Fan-F***ing-tastic work Tony, do it again and you will get the Knight's Cross :) This is a 2 player scenario, but the scenario also exists in a 3 and 4 player version.

May 19, 2000.  New entry added "Additional downloads". This is where I put all other download then tools and doc.

As the first thing on this page, there is a Fix for Mplayer.com - you can now play on mplayer with the UK v1.00, UK v1.01 and US v1.02 CD. Since the German fix is a little harder to make, it take a little longer time.

May 17, 2000.  Another new icon has arrived. Easy icon upgrade is updated.

I made serveral changes to this page. Campaigns that are not yet test by me was removed. A "old news"  entry was added, to make this page somewhat smaller. The link page was a little redone.

I got some info (from Anton Geißlitz) about the German original version, which was added.

The map page seams to be down still. Nothing I can do about it. - Come on Fortunecity, get it fixed!!

May 15, 2000. Update of the easy icon upgrade. 3 brand new icons added. Download it at the new equipment entry I have added.
May 11, 2000. Update of the easy icon upgrade. Not much. 2 icons was added, one new one and one which I forgot. Download the new one here.
May 10, 2000. I was running though all the equipment file out there, and found some things. Even though all claim there graphic updates are full compatible, and contain all icons, user and SSI, they do not. Some are missing a couple of icons, but more imported ALL are missing the resource FRENCH.SHP, which will make the game crash in the French version. So I made the easy dat upgrade again. This contains all user and SSI icons. Download here. Note this requires a CLEAN v1.02 Panzer2.dat file. It will not work on any other version.

For the equipment file maker I made a complete image of all user icons out there, 201 in all. So that there will be no more double icons, which it was necessary to include. This is included in the above download.

May 07, 2000. A lot of new maps has arrived. Some changes was required to them. Kreta was moved from 97 to 93, as Guadalcanal arrived before that with a 97 number. Guadalcanal was shortened to just "Guadalca", to fit a 8.3 name. Actually Guadalcanal is a river in Spain, the real name for what we all know a Guadalcanal, is "Guadalcanal Island". At least so saids my World Atlas and Global name index book. The Map "RoadtoMinsk" has been changed to Litovsk as in Brest-Litovsk (quite a nice map). Leros was moved from 96 to 80 as Washington already had that spot.
