noses at consoles probably never ran into the classic console character
Bomberman. If this includes you, think of Bomberman as a digital Jackie
Chan. Both are short, both from Asia, both enjoy worldwide popularity, and
both kick ass. Now PC gamers have a chance to meet Bomberman in person,
thanks to Interplay's new take on
an old classic: Atomic Bomberman.
At its core, Atomic Bomberman is a faithful conversion of the Super
Bomberman series (there were five Super Bomberman titles produced for the
SNES/Super Famicom). Gameplay is faithful to the originals and takes only
about five minutes to learn--move around the overhead-view maze, drop
bombs, and avoid getting blown up.
are you a purist? Thankfully, Interplay didn't experiment with gameplay too much. Instead
the focus is on improved graphics and sound, which are both the best to
date. This is a smart move that will be appreciated by both purists and
extremists. Players can tailor many game options, including the number of
kills necessary to win and the match timer (from one minute to infinity).
However, there is no way to disable the brand-new taunts spouted by
Bomberman throughout the game. Not only does this potentially slow down
gameplay, but also it will anger purists who feel Bomberman shouldn't say
things like "You are a stupid man's idiot" or "Talk to the hand."
