A Code Update for 6/25/04! The version control system for the MirrorServer is finished, and I'm now finishing up the changes to Resourcer to fully intergrate the version control system. I can now checkin/checkout assets via Resourcer, I still need to finish the label/rollback functionality, should should take only a few more days. I do have a dead-lock occuring with the new MirrorServer code I need to find and fix, plus I still need to test the changes to make sure the MirrorServer still works with older clients (otherwise nobody will be able to auto-update). I'm about 50% through the UDP socket class code, I've finished the SocketGroupUDP class already, and now I'm working on the hard-core part which involves taking a byte-stream and breaking it up into packets to be sent over the internet, and reassembled on the other side. I've been working still 1AM in the morning on this stuff, and by this weekend we WILL have the Resourcer into all the hands of the developers so they can start making asset changes (importing new models, changing ship configurations, etc..) DSC Turns One! Today is Thursday, June 24th, 2004. Do you know what that means? The Darkspace Connection website opened up to the public here on the Gamespy Network. The site's had it's highs and lows and although we don't really have that much traffic, we seem to enjoy what we do. :) With site tracking starting in July 2003, we have recieved a Total Visitors To Date of 14,203 and 58,815 Page Views. The site's traffic has kinda been acting like a roller coaster, peaking with the 1.481 patch, and after the fall from that, we usually get around 5,000 hits a month. Hey, hopefully we double or triple those amounts of traffic for this coming year for the Darkspace Connection. And see Darkspace become even more popular. :) To another year! |

MetaVerse: ICC and K'luth Advance ICC forces have just seized majority control over the Mycopia cluster in Luyten after a humilating defeat of the UGTO defense forces that arrived shortly after the ICC fleet did. ICC casulties were at miminal, with a few vailant ships accidently hitting planets while fighting for survival. They have also captured Xi Bootis and Kaptyens Star in the past day. K'luth have captured one of the center systems, Tripwik, and also defeated the UGTO there. |

Fleet Treasury System Now, on to the Fleet Treasury system. It has just been announced that final touches are being put on a fleet treasury system that allows players to donate to their fleet's "treasury" and Fleet Admins can give those credits to new players or other players who need it or whatnot. It is 90% done and is being touched up. Hope to see it implimented in the game soon! |

Events: Darkspace Fleet Dueling Tournament! The Basic Idea - Darkspace Fleets and Freelance Teams Signup for a Fleet Dueling Ladder, Same Basic Idea as a Dueling Tournament. These teams will be placed into brackets and will fight their way up to the finals, in which the winning team will receive prizes. The Teams - Depending on how many players the two fleets have a minimum of that can participate in a duel. Each fleet/team can put different people from their team or fleet into each different duel if they wish. So basically the teams that participate can use from anywhere from three players and up. The Prize - You mean besides bragging rights of being the top dawg fleet on Darkspace? 325,000 Credits to Each Participant from the Winning Fleet. The Ship Pool - This Ship Pool idea has been introduced to prevent each team from just flying all the great classes of ships and completely destroying their opponent, and vice versa. Each Team will get a certain number of ship pool points per dueling round, depending on how many players will be dueling each other. They will be as follows in the three types of fleet dueling. Ship Pool Points reflect the number of ships that are in it, since 3 vs. 3 isn't a real fleet battle, they won't be able to all get cruisers or dreadnoughts. 7 vs 7: 26 Ship Pool Points 5 vs 5: 14 Ship Pool Points 3 vs 3: 8 Ship Pool Points Ship Requirements - Now, the fleets will pick ships for each round that will match or be below the number of ship points they can use. The ship requirements are by ship class. Scouts: (Free of Charge!) Frigates: 1 Destroyers: 2 Cruisers: 3 Dreadnoughts (Excluding EAD/AD/Gangila/Siphon): 4 Elite Assault Dread/Assault Dread/Siphon: 5 Gangila: 6 Station: 7 Light Supply Ship: 3 K'luth Advanced Worker: 4 Heavy Supply Ship: 5 The Field of Battle - Fleet Dueling will be held on a modified version of the Darkspace Connection Dueling Map, Arcane. Each faction will have three modding planets, one of each tech, and a shipyard planet. The Rules of Engagement - The rules that each fleet must follow or the player will be removed from the duel. All duelists must duel within the dueling field, within 4000gu of the center of the dueling field, an Inferno-planet named The Point of No Return. Fleets will begin on opposite sides of the planet, then may charge the other side when it has begun. Any use of jump drives at ALL will warrant the player to be immediately be removed from the duel. Should the player not obey, the entire fleet will be disqualified from the duel. Losers Bracket - There will be no losers bracket in this fleet dueling tournament, do or die. So, deadline for signup is July 1st, freelance teams (even freelance teams with people from different clans) and fleets are allowed to sign up. The first dueling meeting/round will be on July 10th, 2004 at 6pm EST. To sign up, please put the name of your fleet or the name of your freelance team. If you are a freelance team put your name and the members in your team in this signup thread. You can sign up by going to this thread! *Fleet/Team Name *Number of Members Enjoy :) |

New News Setup |
Early Updates 6/11/04 Anyways, you probably don't care about the site anyway, you want Darkspace news! Well, supposedly Faustus said that there might be an update to the Beta today containing that new patch that's supposed to correct the server-side lag that's been plaguing us once and for all. Be on the lookout for that. |

Oooh a Code Update? Unicode conversion of the engine, DarkSpace, and GameCQ is completed, but untested. I will be updating beta in a couple of days with the new version, after I finish the resourcer changes. Resourcer version control is 85% completed, still need to add functionality to rollback asset changes, history code, and needed interface changes for the resourcer. The unicode conversion is so Darkspace can be translated into different languages, though not really important for us English speaking folk, it will be nice for those who dont speak english. And woo! Resourcer is getting closer to being done. >Lastly, and best of all... I think I've determined a way to fix the lag issues once and for all time. Up to now, I've been using 1 TCP stream to communicate all data between the client and server, which leads to one important problem. When receiving events (verbs) for a Noun, order is important. However, order is NOT important between 2 different nouns, but due to the TCP stream, a verb for one ship, might get held up for many seconds while trying to make sure all previous data has been received. Basically, the only thing you'll probably understand out of that quote is the fact that he might have found a way to once and for all fix the plagueing lag problem! He says he should have that done in one to two weeks! |

Darkspace Code Update 6/2/04 He has also announced that he will be making final changes to the resourcer near the end of the week. This resourcer will allow developers to add new game content instead of all depending on Faustus todo it, so this resourcer is a big thing. That's all for now!
