Well, I am almost ready to get rid of the Galaxy all together, and use the Boston as it's complete replacement. Don't get me wrong, I like the Galaxy, it certainly has a presence, but I think it is just not moddable for the purposes of this game.
I have tried to resize the saucer......I was thinking something slightly smaller, more round......but the body makes any saucer resize look....well....silly. I could not change the body much, because in any refit the body would remain mostly intact. I also need the neck, with a few modifications, so that it is easy to simply connect a new saucer to existing docking clamps.
This is the first problem. The next is the nacelles.
Sov style nacelles are the first choice, but look silly with the struts pointing up. Point the struts down and it looks better, but again, next to the body it looks silly. You can shorten the Sov nacelles for a better effect, but then the ship looks stretched hieght wise, not exactly a sleek slim target.
A Sov style saucer is not even an option.
So, I am at my last wits with this one. If you guys want a Galaxy refit, you will have to help me. I am just not getting the right modification to make it look right, perhaps if you guys help it might kickstart my process to get the right look.
Looking for suggestions...........I need pics, I dont care how rudimentary they are.....just use current schematics of the Galaxy to make them.

I was thinking that it was difficult to change also. I can have a try later, I may change the nacelles slightly and the body. You'll have to say whether its changed enough for it to be legal though.

Just a quick comment on the saucer shape idea:
IMO. I wouldn't change the saucer shape to make it look rounder if I were you, or it might end up looking like an Ambassador class.

The saucer has to be changed, because right now the ship looks like a bloated codfish. Way too much room and not enough armor. I think I will end up leaving it alone, since it does not seem to be friendly toward refits. The Boston will take it's place.
Now the Akira........I wish all ships were as easy to refit as the Akira. That ship will be easy.
The refit has to alter the appearance so that only 75 percent of the original ship is intact at a minimum.

You could do 1 of 2 things.
Use an Updated version of a Venture Class Update, or Galaxy X. I know the Galaxy X is ugly....but it's the best Idea I have.

1 of 4 actually.
Number 3 is mine Dale Class.
Number 4 is the War upgrade of the Galaxy (is also being made by scotchy).

Okay. First of all, it sounds like you don't like the ship design in the first place, Raven -- and you're using the excuse of "refitting" to change it to something more "palatable."
My concept of a refit is internal and external system upgrades and additions. The overall basic hull design of the ship isn't changed (or if so, changed slightly enough where it can be done to existing ships). What it sounds like you're doing is creating a new ship entirely.
The Galaxy, as it stands, looks just fine. If you start messing with the shape, you ruin its "presence" as you say. If you're looking for a refit, go a similar route as Scotchy's Nemesis Galaxy, which is a pretty neat upgrade -- makes the Galaxy very deadly and sturdy, yet the basic design is unchanged; the way a refit should be.
If the Galaxy really bothers you that much, then I for one, would rather you just omit it and replace it. Few things pain me more than seeing someone utterly butcher a ship I love because THEY don't like it.
But so far, BC2 and its concepts seem to be coming together quite nicely. I'm just begging you that you leave the Galaxy's basic design alone. If there's "too much room" in places, make use of them. Think outside the box.
If not, then I just prefer the Galaxy as a loving memory...

Umm, one design I saw on the uss Streamline thread looked alright, sort of. If someone were to fiddle withit a little, it might work. It basically took a Galaxy body and pointed the saucer. With a little more work it might work in BC2

I cannot go with a cosmetic upgrade, because it would not change enough of the patented design for us to use it in BC2. Only 60 percent of the original canon ship can remain.
It looks as though leaving it out is becoming more viable.
I like the galaxy. I just don't like the fact I have struggled for two days to find a way to modify it.

Just have the good ol standard Galaxy upgraded to modern standards, or do this.
Design a Totally New Class BASED DIRECTLY on the Galaxy Class. Call it the Galaxy II if you will.

I agree that the way the galaxy class is shaped, it is very difficult to change it so that it looks like a Galaxy refit without looking too much like the galaxy.
Something along the lines of the Galaxy X may be a better option but I would still say that the ship is far to classical to update.

Galaxy is to unique and iconal to change effectively. Even if you do manage to change it enough, no one would want to call it the Galaxy, no matter how cool it looks.
If you can't use the Galaxy for legal reasons, then you probably have no other choice but to find a replacement. Of course, it wouldn't be the same without it. But hey, I think the Infinity will give us more than enough fill of starship.
But another question airs: in the Inifity thread, you guys said that it has its own Defiant, and has room to dock an Excelsior. Are you planning to use these ships as well? And if you are, how come you can't use the Galaxy then?

Right......although this mod will not have any canon ships, the Third Fleet does not operate in a vacuum.......errr.......well, actually it does. lol
What I mean is, the rest of the fleet still exists. There will be times when the fleet mixes, but not in this mod.
In other words, you can drive a semi through a C-4.........but I am willing to bet dollars for donuts that you know they dont do that just because they can. It simply represents what you COULD do.

Oh wait....."See the light"......you didn't mean...? Oh. Sorry.
I agree with others here. I think you should just ditch the idea of a Galaxy refit. I don't think you are gonna get a real good looking refit that can still be called a refit. It's either gonna have to be a new ship entirely, or look too similar. As much as I hate to say it, my suggestion is to leave the Galaxy out, but maybe mention it somewhere in fleet chatter or something.
