Due to 10k I never liked MP.
But from a programmers point of view:
When on a slow modem, it takes some time for a value to update, aka the torpedoes position.
Or it can be handy...
A friend of mine was playing some rts, can't recall the name, he saw an enemy come through the door, and wanted to draw a pistol (he had a bazooka equiped), he draw a pistol, but the clip was empty, he fired, but as he fired he switched back due to lag and fired the bazooka.
But he also had to turn, he turned, turned back (and then fired) due to lag.
And hitted the tank the other player came out of, killing the other mans team in the proceses, then he got a rifle and eventually killed the person he intended to kill...

LMAO . My luck included running straight into rockets I hadn't seen being fired yet (or torpedoes), missing everyone because they were actually in a different place than they appeared to be, or just getting stuck in a pose for ten minutes . Now why couldn't I have had luck like that guy?!

And they seemed to have unlimited torpedoes. I remember one time when i wasnt in a clan a bunch of 6 of us entered their sever. Only one was in side, we attacked his ship, he took minimal damage but our fleet got destroyed. They would go round beleiving that they owned bc and would enter servers and disrupt games. They werent very well liked but suddenly they dissapeared. |
I once made the I guess nearly the same changes as them and joined the server and well, shoot them down. I was kicked :(

well, i came her spicifically to vent. i went online with bc ( or any game) for the first time yesterday. i was immediately kicked from a server without expalination, and banned. i never found out why.
i also have to get files from guys pc's to play with them, worrying
this morning i find my akira has 16 torpedo tubes....... i kill it,
and a chip called city, thats um, a city block...
tonight i go on and that same guy kicks me again, this time i didnt even get to fire a shot.
now, the best part comes when i see this server game called -im not a cheat- i just wanna talk.
curious to see if my banning wasnt an isolated incident, i entered, talked, then we got down to business. well were both in defiants. except his seems to be capable of firing its pulse phasers in any direction., now i think, maybe its lad, even though there was none. so i pull back aft of her, and leave myself way open. sure enough, dual jets of fire leap from the pulse points right at me. always being fair, i ask him to do a check with me on our arc ranges. he refuses. i watch the crazy firing for some more minutes.. i hope i see him again, this time im screen capture him.
is m p always like this....

wow that sounds interesting, try get a screenie.. i've been figuring out how this works. i don't like cheaters but sometimes yes it's true if u lag and a torp hits you it's gets stuck for a min in your ship and damages.. i do know frankly in regular 1.1 if you aim at their impulse so good u can knock'em hard with 4 torps with a direct hit but i have been puzzled how the hell can your opponent shoot torps on the right and hit u without aiming a lock? how the heck does that work and omg one time i was on only the left side and he was on my side and he actually shot torps on his aft side and shot me down hard.. i'm like wtf how did he aim so well like that without even aiming at my starship to get a lock torp? suggestions and ideas on tacticals?

Lag isn't just about connection speed, it's also about other machine specifications both on the host and client. This is why it is wise to play the game in a low-res, low-detail environment if more than four textured AI/player objects are involved, if you ask me. From my experience, no matter how swift or fast or pleasant or sweet my ISP is being that particular day, nothing saves me from the lag if I join a server and everyone else is on high detail.
You can tell this by people warping in, and sudden increases/decreases of lag when particular people arrive/exit the system you're in.
This, I'm relatively certain, is processor-related. Both GPU and CPU need to be up-to-spec on both client and host, especially with the modded high-res textures used in, say, KM.
Since I have dual AMD Athlon64 3500s in this machine plus a fairly meaty connection, I know it's not me.
It is largely down to the hosts; smaller machines run smaller games. It's as simple as that. The host does the majority of the work in an online game (which is why the client can be 56k with no difficulty in the unmodded version of BC - well, it worked for me, anyway); for example, in Battlefield 2's support texts, it states that for a 64 player game the host should have a 5mb/s connection plus a processor running at something like 2.2-2.8Ghz, PLUS two gigs of RAM.
Although Battlefield 2 is a newer game than Bridge Commander, most people play it online at fairly low spec. This is taken into account in the support file.
Whereas with Bridge Commander, in my experience, everyone seems to play at 1024x768 with bells + whistles - which is okay in a small game with small ships and no AI...
It seems to me that damage lags alot. This is processor related. The host machine is responsible for figuring out damage levels per hit for each ship; if the host machine has a pants processor and/or everyone has visible damage set to maximum (or even on at all), then you... err... well, lag. It's alot of number crunching, for some reason. Not sure why, but it is, and it lags.
This is why you can fire everything at someone for a while and then someone else fires once, and they die. Because your damage just caught up! If you watch the kills appear on the scoreboard, they tend to be tallied properly regardless.
Still, the solution is simple.
Play the game in 800x600, no mipmaps, no dynamic lighting effect thingies, no visible damage. Works for me (and people I've suggested it to in a coupla games of late). And actually...
Isn't that just what it said in the manual?

I myself have encountered the same thing as eagle.
I should remind you though that it is highly "illegal" in the UFDF to use Godmode or anyother cheats / trainers. under ANY curcomstances (including this one)
usually a kick suffices to scare them off, if not well usually a Ban

I don't understand the people who make god ships to cheat with. You're instantly recognised as a cheat and thus your accomplishments mean nothing.
But if you boosted your shield and recharge stats by 15-20%, it's unlikely anyone would notice that, and it would still give you a significant edge. Enough for people to think you may actually be good at this...
