Ok, here is the Fed fighter. I like this one, it turned out rather nice after Mike tweaked it a bit. It still needs alot of work (impulse engines, microtorp launcher, etc.) but the overall shape is set. It is on the small side for it's class, but has a good balance of speed and firepower. Shields, however, are light, as is armor.

Here are the pics.

Im sorry i have to say that I did not like this design as much as you other models. The cockpit is nice, but i think the wings are to long and to thinn on the outer edges. I also think the warpengines should be move back abit and closer to the center.

I think you should go for something more similar to the gryphon (which is the coolest small starship iv seen) or the valkyre.

The valkyre is the first pic and the gryphon the second

Looks very nice, Raven! What are the nacelle-looking structures on the ventral side? Impulse engines, perhaps?

This looks like a very versatile design! Three variants immediately came to mind when I saw this beauty:
A) Some kind of disruptor/pulse phaser arrays where the warp nacelles are now, and the nacelles moved to where those structures on the ventral side are located.
B) The nacelles moved to where those structures are on the ventral side, and nothing in place of the nacelles on the wings.
C) Both the structures on the ventral side and the warp nacelles replaced with pulse phasers, torpedo launchers, etc. It would be a short-range fighter, obviously.

Again, looks very nice! Thumbs Up

I could certainly try a few varients, I realize the nacelle forward design is a bit radical, but I think it works. The "under the wing" standard was just that....too standard.

Yah but if they are under the fighter their mounts would be stronger. The wings look like they could break to easily.

I think it looks to much like a jet... fair enough let it have the general shape but you dont need the wings to be that shape, you dont need to have them sweep back and you dont need the body to be that shape either. I think inherently its a good design it just looks to much like a standard fighter jet.

Well, here is the latest update, and some background to clarify...

This is supposed to be an older design, originally an atmospheric interceptor for Earth defenses, around 50 years old or so. It was redesigned to give it greater range and flexibility in space, and the warp engine and nacelles were added. Turns out it was a solid design, took well to space travel, and became the standard MA (multi-atmospheric) ground support interceptor for the Third Fleet.

This fighter, in it's original form, was the first small craft to carry the microtorp launcher system, removing the need for fusion rockets. The yeild could be reduced to .25 isotons, all the way up to 4 isotons (a standard photon torpedo is 10 isotons, quantum is 100 isotons, mark 12 drone up to 1000 isotons). The weapon was rarely used in the atmosphere, mostly used for short range defense of the planet.

There were two versions of this ship, one manned (the one you see here) and one unmanned (seen in Best of Both Worlds) designed to purely operate in space (no wings).

The modified version has a crew of one, but has the ability to carry one more passenger. The crew compartment is tiny, cockpit size, no room to walk around. This ship should sit somewhere around 16 meters long. It has a maximum speed of warp 4 and a cruising speed of warp 2, but has very limited range. Maximum impulse is 200 TKPS, fast for a fighter of this class. Menuverability is superb.

Weapons are 2 forward light phased disruptor cannons, one fore micro-torp launcher, one rear micro-torp launcher. This fighter has a sensor-cloak system installed, as well as reasonable armor and sheilding for it's class. The vessel has a small hold in the rear of the ship capable of stowage.

The landing gear is tri-pad in it's configuration, and it has working flaps for atmospheric flight...it cannot however function completely devoid of anti-gravity systems. SIF system is limited, but a full IDF system is intalled for warp flight, making for a very smooth flying experience.

Now on to the pics.

The nacelles laying flat on the wings like that just doesn't look right... They need some sort of mount, and maybe moved back a bit.

Looks great to me! Nice job incorporating into this design those drone fighters seen in the Best of Both Worlds! (Did the drones actually look like this ship without the wings? We never did get a very good look at them)

Looks very good, but IMHO the nacelles look like they've just been stuck on the mesh. How about integrating them into the hull??

actually the mars defence drone models consisted of a Typhoon class sub hull from Red October with two Los Angeles Class sub hulls as nacelles

were it up to me i'd move the nacelles into the hull for better protection. if it is filling a normal fighter's roll then it would be deployed from a carrier so warp travel doesn't need to be a key point and more compact nacelles could be used.
