Lurking deep in the bowls of Nightsoft's server, under my ftp username, I managed to find something remarkably interesting... here it is.

Wait right there!
Did you find the actual model or just the render?

Its the model. That's a quick render I did just before i had to head off. Could do with some more work, or perhaps some parts done from scratch. I forgot how bad it actually is.

WOW, talk about a coincidence!
I was literally JUST about to ask [probably in the "ask your general questions here" thread] what happened to the Infinity - and now I've got my answer, lol!

No idea. Besides, it's not entirely what Raven wants, if he shows back up and can give me some pointers, I'll happily redo most of it from scratch.

besides, the Infinitx should not be too hard to model...the general shape is not too complicated and the majority of the detail can be added via textures...

I remember the Infinity! Quite the ship! The last thing I remember about her what that an MVAM-able mini ship was being worked on. She was attached to the dorsal-bow of the saucer. Since it's not visible on that mesh, I'm wondering if perhaps that's an outdated model? I might be thinking of one of the other versions of this mesh that I've seen, though.

Well, I did not say that I wanted to texture everything in, but rather that not any little greeble can be modelled in, in order for the ship to be playable.

It was integrating the MVAM thing that was getting to be the headache. There were plenty of redesigns that just complicated the things. I just couldn't figure out how to do it. Although I'm much more experienced now, I can probably knock out a good infinity in a few weeks if I can get a 100% confirmed design and maybe a few schmatics.

And I am more able to help now that I can model and texture without errors...I think what you need from me is a base form.
My problem is the deflector....let me jump back on the basic mesh...Ill have it ready for you in two days. You can use it as a reference form for the CGI....how does that sound?
Only one problem...as you know, right now our funds are VERY limited. I just wanted to warn you.

Heh....at any rate I'll have a basic mesh ready for you to peruse, once I get the deflector worked out.

That'll be great. The deflector was causing me a lot of problems. Plus, Raven, if you've seen any of my recent stuff in the Graphics forum, you'll see I'm a hell of a lot better now and will probably be able to complete a new one much easier and much quicker than before.
If you can give me a basic mesh in .lwo format it will be useful. We still have the problem of converting between LW and MAX.

Ah, I dont think I have an LWO exporter, would it help if I do it in 3ds, or if I make it a MOD file?

Way cool to see this. I remember experimentations with a docking script for it. I have an old untextured version here somewhere..

Should be doable. Though getting it back out of lightwave and into whatever you want to make the scenes will still be a problem.

Well, I will leave that to you...I wont mess with your work past the initial concept I throw together....can you import 3ds, or do you want to use a mod to lwo converter?

I've looked at the importing options on LW and couldn't find anything useful. Though I can export to .3DS it doesn't save any surfaces.
I have heard of some plug-ins that will do it and I'll take a look around to see what I can find.

Well, the main hold up now is the deflector and the nacelle/warp vent problems. I am trying out different shapes on the deflector to see what has the best look from all angles, and still works, IE stil looks tough.

I can see it as a large freighter, armored & ready to defend itself but by no means able to go nose to nose with anyone. Its got a thick hide & can take several direct hits but has to depend on its compliment of runabouts n' fighters to dissuade ongoing combat. Basically a rhino with nacelles.
