Ok, we are having alot of problems with the server migration for multiple reasons. I have decided, therefore, to rebuild the server from the ground up. We still have all of the website files of course, so all we need to do is reload all of the server programs on a fresh version of windows.

For some reason I cant seem to get the network connection working right on the new server. It works (slowly) for about 2 minutes and then dies.

At any rate, any suggestions as to what we could add to the server should be made here. If it is free and I can download it, and it will make the server better for the community, suggest away.

Raven, first I need info...

I need to know the server's full hardware configuration, Windows-Service Pack version, driver setup, connection type, etc.

I can't think of anything without knowing that.

It might be a simple hardware incopitability...

Ok, I can get you that info. Actually, we found the problem. Our tech guy enabled the internal firewall on the router, and that shut down all traffic on the network. It should be working now, so feel free to surf the site and take a look.

I need you guys to test FTP and HTTP, and send me an email...ravennight@nightsoft.net. Thats the first step.

Then we can talk about the database and such.

Ok, part 2...

Had to go purchase a new network card for the server, the onboard lan was causing problems. I also needed to replace a fan on the board...seems to be working fine now.

Try it out and let me know if you notice any difference in speed and such.

Ok, good...webserver is up, and the new network card and fan makes the system much more stable.

The server is now running on a Raid 0 WinXp platform, 80GB total space, AMD Athlon 2400+, Abit AT-7 Raid board (4 raid channels...may add 2 more 40GB drives to run 0/1 later) with 2GB PC2700 ram. A good system, my original system with the fubar card loaded (the card seems to be working fine for basic tasks).

We are using the latest version of Xitami, as well as Argosoft for the mail server. I like Xitami for the simplicity of use, but it is not as stable as I would like. Argosoft has it's limits as well. I also installed MySQL and WinSQL, looking at installing Perl if needed.

What I need is a list of what you guys think it needs now...we are considering using Liteserve for it's features...open for suggestions, as long as you dont suggest IIs or Apache...both are out of the question.

The preferred server would have to have a GUI, FTP and HTTP server and multiple account ability. Remember, this is your server, so you suggest what you want, including good database and PHP support (we intend to use phpBB, but we can support other types if needed).

It's now up to you guys. Let me know if you need other info.

One additional note...you all should check your sites, there was a virus infection and some files were lost in the cleanup. The loss is not major, but you should check to see if your files are intact. Just an FYI.

I could care less about some of my files, I really need to update my site and simplify things so I can update my own sh*t. Also, I've noticed I can load the concept gallery's at proper speed, though have you ever though of linking those offsite? There's a free way to do it and it's fast and, well, anythings more reliable than the nightsoft server so...

Anyways, I am going to have some fun. I got a ripper that will hit nightsoft with 10 connections at a time. Lets see if your server can take that...while I rip every image on nightsoft to my HD in about 5 minutes Mr. Green

Should be interesting.

Heh, I have 45 connections right now, hit 220 about one hour ago. What I need to know is if it is any improvement over before.

Good, I'm glad to hear it. What I am looking for is someone that remembers how slow the old server was...I would like to know if my efforts to trade up the server to my old system was worth it.

well, when i was hitting you with my ripper I had a few people say it was still fast...but not uberfast, but that's better than uber slow...so I guess it worked.

Ok, great. The speed is the same, but access to pages should be much faster considering it is on a Raid setup now.
