Post Posted: 11-03-2004 08:21 PM Post subject: Funding for BC2 cut....

I am sorry to announce that our funding for BC2 has been cut drastically. One of our investors has walked, apparantly due to the election. It seems like an odd reason to me, but it is thier right. At any rate, this will cut the amount of money we had for external development, but should not effect workers on this site that much....you may see a slight reduction in payouts or frequency thereof. I am afraid that with the recent damage to my home and relocation of our office I am unable to pick up the shortfall from my personal funds. I will do everything in my power to make sure you guys are still funded. I ask for your patience. Thank you.

Does this mean we can't play pool at Captain Tony's in Key West?

Sorry to hear Raven. I'm sure there will be more investors in the project in due time.

you know, that might be a good idea... i, for one, would donate... granted i'm very much tight on finances at the moment, but within a month or two (hopefully), i'll be in a much better position financially, and would surely contribute...

you know, Raven, how about telling us how much of a deficit this cut has caused (how much needs to be made up) for the BC section to return to normal, just out of curiosity? Throw a dollar ammount out there.

The total amount promised over 4 years was 870,000. The amount up front for the development of this mod was 28.000.

And jeffrey, I dont think I appreciate your tone. This is a serious matter, not kiddie games. We are talking about the life of this mod, the company blamed it on Bush, not us, and we though it was just as silly as you do. You might want to check your rhetoric before you share it on something you know nothing about. Stick to saber rattling.

Ouch, that's quite a large pitfall.....

Well, a donation fund would make up for some of the loss, but I really can't see it filling the void left without the aid of more sponsorship.

Either way, why would this stop BC2? People will do the work for the love of the game ...

i was gonna say that, and in all honesty, i think that's ideal... but there might be some (as in real life), that would do it only for the $$$... i could be (and hope i am) wrong tho...

We do modding for a hobby and to display our works and stroke our own silly egos. Don't stop ... BC2 will go on. I mean face it, no one was getting rich anyways ... I hope Raven hasn't lost hope here.

Well that case I"ll cut my fee from 750$ a model to 749$

but since bush got re-elected my local living costs have gone up, including my rent and such, so I"m gonna have to change a 350$ retainer to retaine my services

also, a 550$ a month consulting fee to help with the massive art problem and shortage

so that comes to... plus a few more fees.. around 7500$ amonth

I expect payment in 5.43 seconds.

call me stupid but i think a contest is in order. due to lack of cash... if you hold a contest for "best mod" or "best model" ect... and say.. i dunno the top 6 people in the contect their models will be used in bc2 credit will be givin and maybe a free shirt or something... i know it sounds stupid but it could be fun. and a shirt is alot less then you would pay for a model right? it may not be a great thing to do. but id hate to see such a good mod go to waste....

Suggestion:

Move Bridge-Commander Universe off gamespy servers and move it to its own site. That way you get profit off of advertisements.

I think a fundraiser is a good idea..... I could drop $20 or $30 toward this mod, and if a few thousand people drop $20, thats $20,000. I say its worth a shot.

Set up a PayPal account for the donations, go to every Star Trek and Bridge Commander related forum you can find and tell the community. It could work.

As the engine is not owned by Night Soft, isn't selling the mod against the EULA?

No, the game is required for ther mod and doesn't modify any of the restricted files (i.e the exe and sound engine).

If it did there'd be no mods for this game.
