It's probably obvious by now that I'm brand new to the world of BC and I'm trying to get myself caught up on all thats going on, but I really feel like I'm drowning in all the information thats out there. I've barely gotten through the single player aspect of the game and right now I am trying to get all of the latest and greatest mods for this game that are currently available. The problem is, I'm only getting the mods that I hear good news about, so when I do get them and start encountering problems, I find out, I've got outdated versions of a lot of stuff.
I was just wondering if someone could help me out here, maybe give me a list of what they think no BC gamer should be without. Right now, all I've got is Nano FX 2, a couple of bridges and something called BCMI (and I'm not even sure what BCMI does, though I'm looking into it.) And now I've just read that there's borg ships and even a patch for NFX2...
Ahh... As you can see, I'm getting quite lost here. I've already uninstalled/reinstalled this game countless times just to get the few mods I have working. I'd really hate to keep going through that or wade through all the vast amount of information on this board AND other sites. I've spent the last few days, literally researching what's out for BC. It gets to the point where I have dozens upon dozens of tabs open and then get lost and forget about what I was trying to look up just because I saw something I thought was new and needed to know about.

Thanks! I'm going to uninstall BC one more time and then download and add only the mods on that list. Hopefully my game will be more stable that way.

Thanks. I know. I've actually run into the BSOD a few times and tried reading through that topic, but its so technical, I get lost after the first few posts and have no idea if they're talking about a problem or a solution. I just go back, uninstall and reinstall in a different order, hoping that it eventually goes away.
As far as readme's, I make it a point to read those, although some of them aren't very helpful. In fact, I just ran into one that says, and I quote:
"Just install the files to the right folder."
That's all well and good, but some of us noobs have no idea what the 'right folder' is. heh

Thanks. I'll make sure to do that.
Is there any particular order you recommend installing those mods or should it work fine no matter how I do it? (Obviously things like Nano FX 2 fix have to be installed secondary)

Cool! I'll make sure to try and do it in that order. I haven't read much on the Kobayashi Maru mod, but I have seen it linked to a lot.

Heh, thanks guys. The files I didn't already have are downloading now, and I'll make sure to do them in that order. Hopefully I'll get lucky and not run into the BSOD. But one of those files is 300MB+! It'll be maybe a day before I can try it out.
Hey, thanks for helping me out.

I think the order for #2 is
* Kobayashi Maru 0.9
* Kobayashi Maru Patch 0.9.1
* BCS: The Beginning (1.0)
* UnifiedMainMenu 20060319
* Bridge Commander GUI Mod - Full Edition
* Bridge Plugin Core
* Nemesis Sovereign Bridge (1.0 High)
* Late TNG Galaxy Bridge (1.0)
* Canon Crew Fix (1.0)
* Enterprise A Bridge (1.5 Normal)
* Repair Destroyed Systems (Beta Edition)
(i love dual monitors)

The only problem I have with those mods is the Canon Crew Fix. While I love the authenticity, I couldn't stand not being able to see the view screen as I issued the orders. Will it be a potential problem if I don't install that?
Or... now that I think about it. I saw the WalkFX mod in there. I haven't used it before, but from what I read, it lets me walk around the bridge... while I be able to stand behind the console AND look at the screen? If so, then NVM lol, problem solved.

About BSOD solving.
There is not one sollution for every problem, only the same problems with the same mods have the same sollution.
Ounce you manage to take a screenshot of the BSOD, post it in the thread (or make a new thread) and we'll help you out.
You don't have to read through the entire thread, just the first post.
I have never encounterd a BSOD I haven't been able to solve.
Unless I was using a function completly incorrectly, but I wouldn't release that, so it's quite besides the point.

LOL
I'll keep that in mind. I'll see what I can do about learning to take screenshots of the BSOD consoles... but only if I have a problem after I get all these mods installed. I'll go ahead and warn you in advance, however. Though I may be able to figure out how to take a screenshot, I can almost guarantee I will have no idea what I am looking at in the console. I'd be entirely at your mercy to help me figure out what's wrong... assuming anything does go wrong.
Here's hoping to never having to learn to take BSOD screenshots.

just another tip... after you have installed BC, copy the directory to the same location so you have "Bidge Commander" and "Copy of Bridge Commander" Saves you having to keep reinstalling it over and over... if something you dont like, then just delete the "bridge Commander" folder and rename the other one to remove the "Copy of"

Hey, I got everything installed just like on the list, and the game is much much much more stable in quick battle. Unfortunately any of the single player missions that I've tried (even in test mode) give me instant CTD's as soon as they load. It's a big bummer not being able to have some of the mods active during those missions, but I'm still experimenting and using that new master switch function to turn off/on all the mods to see if I can get back into the game.
On the bright side... No BSOD's
Edit:
Well, its become clear to me that with all these mods, the single player version of the game just isn't supported. I've sorta gotten that impression from reading over all the different threads. Even with everything turned off, the missions still crash straight to the desktop. The farthest I've gotten was actually loading the first mission, but as soon as Liu cuts the line, I get to see my wallpaper again. I guess what I'll do is just run the copy of STBC that I have in a different directory - thanks to that very helpful suggestion - so that I can just get through the single player version of the game. Then come back and see what all has been added in quick battle. But aside from the unstable missions, the game looks unbelievable. I played one quick battle against a Dominion ship. There were so many options available to me that I had never even thought of!
Aside from actually being able to leave the bridge and roam the ship, I can't imagine what more someone could ask for from this game. But then, it's called Bridge Commander for a reason.

Yeah, just about all the readme's and threads about mods say that they aren't tested in SP. It's a big bummer, but, oh well... Not too much of a price to pay for all these cool options.

Well, I've run into something else here. I finally finished the single player missions and am delving into the quick battle aspect of the game, but I've run into another snag. Now that I've had the time to spend in Quickbattle mode, it seems that after a while, the game will 'hickup.' The screen will pause just for a fraction of an instant every so often... but the longer I play, the longer the pauses get, until the game become unplayable. At first, when I first start up a game, everything is running perfectly. It's not until about five minutes in that this starts up... and then it just keeps going and keeps getting worse until I have no choice but to quit or restart. It seems that if I turn to Saffi and just restart whatever setup I have, everything returns to normal... for five minutes, and then the 'hickup' comes back. This makes long fights, like trying to take out the borg, impossible.
I was wondering if there was a solution. I remember when I first installed Klingon Academy on here, there was a similar glitch where anytime you tried to fire a weapon, the game would 'hickup' in almost the exact same way. I looked around on their boards, and there was a simple fix that I had to download to upgrade my processor driver I think... (It was something fairly deep in the settings of the control panel)
Anyway, I downloaded their fix and everything went fine, so I'm not sure if my problem is mod-related or processor related.
Anyone know?
Edit: I take that back. I just retested it, and it seems going to 'restart' the battle does not fix the problem. Only restarting BC. This seems to only happen if there is a Galaxy-class present.

Yes, I have both installed, as they were part of what I was instructed to install earlier in this topic.
And is that 'scripts.rar' file in the other topic 'the little fix' you mean?
I scoured filefront and these threads for about half an hour when I found that...
