I tryed to mix 3dstudio onto other programs I have on my HD, and this came out using AC3D. The enterprise was a template included in the program, FYI.
the Chancellor-class. Grand-grandpa of the Ambassador. LOL

+Very good performance due to it's ability to work with groups/objects/faces/vertex on nested hierarchy.
+Powerfull render.
+Good texture editor. Same as Milkshape
+Supports .lwo, .3ds, .dxf, .lws, .bsp (Quake engine files) and POVray files for exp/importer
-Requires a good 3D knowledge to use it. Not for beginners
-Grid is not snapped, hard to align things
-Doesn't support .nif, requires exporting to .3ds and converting on milkshape

Dunno.
I don't point to a WIP, just introducing the program as a new tool, alternative to 3dstudio

Alright then I shall move it to the Graphics Art Forum since to me it has nothing to do with BC.

It's easy. First you rename the 3DsMax.exe into a .txt and open it with Notepad.

Then you do the same with the other programs. Then you copy paste parts of the text to the other textfiles. Then you rename that file to .exe, run it and and...

Something wonderful happens! Razz

Well, fundamentally speaking, 3d graphics programs are actually simple enough for you to be able to do that. They just run a load of complicated mathematics in the background that control things such as depth perception and distortion, things we don't really think about much.

Though just opening notepad and swapping bits around would be like randomly swapping pages in a book or genes of a genone. You do get a mix of both at the end, but it is a meaningless mix.

whooa, long time no post here....

well, a mix is what I meant by using both programs in parallel
you can use 3dstudio to make the basic model, and then use AC3D for extensive modelling, since 3Dstudio has multiple tools that not always do what you need.
I personally use this program in parallel with milkshape and autocad, using the first for the conversion and textures and the second for face editing and a bit of modelling.

AC3D can easily jump from global to local selection, along with a good texture editor that allows both face and group selection

oh, I forgot!, here's the latest version:

http://www.ac3d.org/

hmmm, that Chancellor-class looks tempting....
maybe I should queue it somewhere.....

Ah, I see. Never heard of the term before. Its why Lightwave works so well, its all split into different programs so you can do that.
