I think Palpatine did let Windu beat him, because you have to remember, Palpatine was dark and sinister, he has manipulated everything from Episode 1...he was using Windu to turn Anakin further to the Dark Side...he tempted Anakin with the power of saving Padme, but in order to gain that power he would have to make a sacrifice...just as Palpatine told Anaking to kill Dooku...this sent him further the dark side...
Although I dont think electricuting himself was the plan, but its the results which Palpatine values, not the means...
I hate and love Palpatine for the way he has manipulated everything...he has played both sides perfectly, and although it was sad to see him order the execution of the Jedi, hats off to the way he got his power...

Interesting, except that would defeat the purpose of Anakin turning to the dark side in the first place, the point is that he needs the Emperor. What game is this again?

No, Anakin does not need Palpatine to live. This rumor started when Vader died when Palpatine did. People forget that Vader had been subjected to quite a bit of VERY powerful Force Lightning. Also, he basically lied face down in volcanic ash for who knows how long. Basically, Anakin's lungs were trashed. He could not breethe on his own. The Force Lightning MUST have damaged his suit's breathing equipment, and THAT lead to his death, not the Emperor's death.

No, I agree with Evelyn, Anakin needed the Emperor to save padme.

Not really, the Emperor manipulated Anakin by exploiting his love for Padme, by tempting him with the power to prevent her from dying. But all along the Emperor was forcing him deeper into the dark side, and the irony that him trying to gain the power to save Padme, was actually the very thing that led to her death...
Anakin still loved Padme, his anger led to him choking her...and once again the Emperor used Anakins love to make him more evil, thats why he told him that he killed Padme...
Dont forget that the Emperor cares for only himself and his own power, Dooku and Vader are merely puppets in his greed for power, when he tried to turn Luke to the Dark Side, he once again tells him to kill Vader, the same thing which he told Anakin to do to Dooku (<<thats a mouthful lol)

Darth Maul was the biggest puppet, lol.
I still reckon the Emperor was extremely fortunate.
Anakin could have killed him when he first revealed he was a Sith.
Mace could have killed him if Anakin hadn't shown up, or if Anakin had made a different decision whilst there.
Yoda could have killed him if he'd had a bit more luck. Yoda was just very unfortunate.
Anakin WOULD have killed him if he hadnt been crippled by Obi-Wan.

but he'd have done it a lot sooner if Obi-Wan hadn't stopped him. He stated at least twice to Obi-Wan and Padme that he'd overthrow the emperor.

More thoughts on III..
How come when Obi-Wan died, and when Yoda died, they disappeared. When Qui-gon died, he did not disappear, same with Dooku for that matter.
Also - the Yoda-Palpatine battle would have been won by Yoda in a different environment. Unfortunate is the right word there.

I saw this movie only recently as I thought it sucked.
After the opening battle sequence, the first part of the movie was garbage. The script throughout the movie was God-awful (by far the worst part of the movie), and Haden Christenson made Anakin come off as nothing more than a whiny little brat. Anakin's fall to the dark side was REALLY poorly done, too. The second half--afer Anakin turned--was okay. I could go into more detail, but I feel like it right now.

It sucked? You can't be serious. Anyway, yeah, I'll definitely get it when it comes out on DVD as well.

Both Yoda and Obi-Wan had learnt how to become one with the force before death. Qui-gon had to wait untill he was dead before he figured out how to do it

Man, episode III was good, but the should have called it Return of the Cliche, the dialogue was just horrendous. I have a hard time believing that Lucas wrote this script at the same time as the originals, as episodes 4 through 6 had far better dialogue.

Yeah the script was definately lacking and Anakin's fall to the dark side seemed a bit too...sudden. But then again would you really want to watch a six hour movie? Overall I thought it was good and I enjoyed it both times I went to see it.
