Post Posted: 07-26-2004 06:48 AM Post subject: Pegasus becomes the moderator of the Trek Tech Talk forum...

We now have a new forum for chatting about Trek science and mechanics. We are in need of a moderator. The moderator must be proficient in Trek matters with respect to the science and mechanics of such, and should have access to reference material as well. The optimal candidate would have the knowledge of what shows the particular item was mentioned in. If you feel you qualify for moderation of this forum, apply to Nanobyte, myself or Durandal. You will be tested on your proficiency. Thanks.

I'm interested in the position, I know a hell of a lot of crap about star trek, with reference sites at my disposal. I also have seasons 1 - 3 of Voyager so I can use those for reference if I need to, I also have several episodes of TNG and DS9 taped. I was also a staff member on BCFiles for a little while, I'm not sure that will help me here, but it may score some points Wink

This is science fiction, not science fact. A and B in science doesn't help you understand star trek. To be honest its probably a drawback Smile

science fact might also come in handy.. for those users who will try and fight about how real a transporter is.. it may or may not be possible.. but for a mod to step in and say hey look.. its like this and ur going to like it.. also i don't think raven is really looking for a st "geek" just someone how knows alot about it.. not saying any of you guys are geeks.. im just saying that aslong as you that.. in voyager esp "timeless" Harry Kim Changed history and saved voyager 2secs before the flyer was destoryed or atleast be able to look it up.. things like that might come in handy..

btw.. i also have a cat.. and i don't ask him stupid guestions like data asked his cat.. just to be clear Smile

StarfleetHQ
USSCyclops

Congratulations. You all did really well on the questions. Here are the answers to the questions you were given just for your information.

On the Enterprise D, three bridge officers had quarters on the same deck, Deck 2, established in the TNG series. What were thier names?
Data, Worf and Geordi

What does LCARS stand for?
Library Computer Access and Retrieval System

What does IDF stand for?
Inertial Damping Field

What is the name of the conduit used by the computer core to communicate with the ship, it's systems, and all computer terminals on Federation ships?
Optical Data Network, or ODN

What was the name of Kahless's brother?
Morath

How many individual sensor pallets does a Galaxy class have?
144

What does SIF stand for?
Structural Integrity Field

The Klingon relationship with the Romulan people is extremely unstable. The Romulan Star Empire has been typically regarded by the Klingons as a "blood enemy" since at least the 23 Century. Sporadic Romulan attacks against Klingon colonies, like during the Khitomer Massacre (2346), and interference in Klingon affairs (The Klingon Civil War, 2368) have continued to sour relationships between the two people.
What 2 TNG episodes establish the authenticity of the prior paragraph?
"Sins of the Father", "Redemption, Part II "

What is the name of the device that locks down the core deflector dish to the deflector array on a Sovereign class starship?
Maglock

At which setting on Federation phaser pistols and rifles does a target humanoid begin to take physical damage from the beam?
Level 4

Tell me what is wrong with this comment.

"The ship was in reduced power mode, so I couldn't use the transporter to go to the damaged hull plate directly. I had to use a shuttle to travel to the damaged area and repair the plate."
Shuttles cannot be operated in reduced power mode, because the shuttlebay is powered down.

What is the outside hull shell of a Federation ship made of?
Interlaced Microfoam Duranium filiments.

Tell me what is wrong with this comment.

"Thats impossible Captain. Even if I worked my men double shifts we could never repair the computer cores in time. It takes 22 hours to completely overhaul a core, especially one as complex as on a Galaxy class starship. I would need at least 44 hours to overhaul all of the computer cores on the Enterprise."
The Enterprise, like all Galaxy class starships have three cores, not two. It would take 66 hours by his estimate, not 44.

What is the name of the political arm of the Cardassian Military? The Romulan Military?
Obsidian Order, Tal Shiar

What is the highest rank in the Cardassian Military?
Gul

What was the name of Jean Luc Picard's older brother?
Robert Picard

Where was Picard Born?
Labare, France

Ensign Ro once served on board the U.S.S. Wellington. What class of ship was it?
Niagra class starship

What was the name of the ship that transported Sarek back to Vulcan after the Legaran conference?
U.S.S. Merrimac

What was the name of the food that Data fed his cat, Spot?
feline suppliment 74

There are three common types of small information storage and processing units used on starships and bases. Name them.
Duotronic enhancers, Isolinear rods, Isolinear chips

On what stardate was Voyager trapped in the Delta Quadrant?
48315.6

What was the name of Tuvok's impersonator?
Mobar

What is wrong with this statement?

"Captain, I am picking up a distress call from a Type 8 shuttle, the U.S.S. Egypt. Her life support is failing, and she is losing containment on her warp core. The ship is located in sector 14643."
There is no such thing as a Type 8 shuttle

What is the maximum effective range of Federation phasers on starships?
300,000 Kilometers

What is your favorite site for Bridge Commander?
Bridge Commander Universe

Here is the next set of questions for the next stage. This will determine the finalists. I am putting up the question set.....you will have one week to submit your answers via email or PM.....DO NOT POST THE ANSWERS HERE OR YOU WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE RUNNING. Good luck.

Well, the first set was to demontrate a cursory knowledge and to get the finalists. The second set is to test your knowledge on direct Star Trek tech, theory, and to hit you with some little known trivia. It had to be more difficult, because the moderator should be able to discuss and prove his arguments, and this means the length and fullness of your answer is just as important as the answer itself....I need to see that you know what you are talking about.
