First of all I want to thank all modders and scripters of the Bc community for keeping the game alive and enhancing the game every day.
Now I'm very proud to announce that work on my first mod for BC based on Cakuzma's drydock system has begun.
Basically this mod will make the docking-undocking procedure more realistic.
Each station will have lots of different docking point and each will have it's own purpose like repair and reload or just to stop your ship and leave it with a shuttle. The possibility of docking will now depend of what ship you fly and where you want to dock. Also lots of sounds and different characters greeting you at the different stations will be included to make this mod more cannon.
This mod is meant for every FedStarbase and FedStation.

It sounds promissing, but that's a lot of Yellow and Red on that list.
Is it the case that once you've got a function working for one base it's very easy to duplicate for another?

AEm no it isn't. Because once you've docked a menu will come up including the character where you can decide what you want to do. Since every docking port on each station has it's owne puspose I have to create a character for every dockingport and a seperate AI for every docking and undocking and abort equences. This way it's pssible to allow it that one docking port allows for example only repair and another allows only reload ect. . Also not every station and Starbases support the same functions.
Pics follow soon.

BTW, you can't dock with every base, for example, a ship the size of a galaxy can't dock at a starbase 329-like station, its too large. That's why, in "Measure of a Man [tng]" they transported over. In a script, can't you put something like Glaxaxyclass-TypeDockedWith329, and then make the dock script search for that? then you would do this for each base.
e.g.
\scripts\custom\dockingscripts\docklist.py
Starnase 329
defiant
bugship
shuttle
etc....
DeepSpaceNine
Galaxy
Nebula
Sovereign
Akira
etc...

or just
Code: | get the radius of the model
if this is smaller than the hanger door then
dock
otherwise
no luck haha go get your torps somwhere else :P |
That would save alot alot of coding

I think you mean diameter, lost_jedi.
Even if one can't physically dock, one should be able to reload and repair (perhaps repair to a lesser extent than if one was able to physically dock), since shuttles and transporters exist.

That's the reason why I wanted a remade model of Strabase 329. Collision between STarbase and the player ship will be enabled so if you want to enter the hangar with a galaxy class vessel...boom this way only ceratain ships will be allowed to reload. Otherwise you can just dock outside the starbase and repair some subsysystems. Same for DS9. Outer docking RIng just for ships like Defiant or bird of pray maybe also akira flying backwards if someone can tell me how to to change the value of setspeed. Trying to dock with al larger vessel won't bring up a menu but an explosion.
Edit: But I'm still experimenting with the docking scripts about forbidding docking for larger and smaller vessels.

I don't know. The readme didn't mention anything like that.
Edit: Because of your question I sent an Email to Madon asking if there's the possibility that you're right. Until I recive an answer the project is canceled.

I like where this is going, its a rather neat idea, Totaly Games had so much potential with this game and the question begs why they didnt make it what it could be

what you have to remember is that totally games were on a budget and had a time constraint, the modders have had four or five years to perfect on totally games design

That's the plan!
But until madon finished his powerdownmod the project will be on hold.

For anyone who wants to work on hardpoints in the meantime, the script currently looks for the exact same setup as on Starbase 12. No modification to the system files is needed, as the script will let you dock with any ship/station with the required hardpoint info.
(Theoretically allows you to set up an HP to fly a shuttle into a hanger if you want)
I'm not going to go into the reasons that work on this had to be suspended, as I don't want to drag up stuff from the past, but there will be another official public beta of the Power Down mod towards the end of December with some new additions.
Please see the Power Down thread for more info on the next release of that.

Currently this project is cancelled because of that, unkonwn to me when I started this, the scripts I also used where ripped out of Madons PowerDown mod.
And since Madon continous work on his mod there is currently no need for this one here.
Basically, you could just do what madon said; equip your stations with hardpoints for dockking and undocking. When I worked with the old version I still had to rename the waypoint names in the script itself. Hope he'll fix that.
