Is the Scorpion supposed to be sort of like a Defiant's big brother?

You play in the Scorpion, yes, it is like a Defiant on steriods, not as menuverable but much more powerful, and yes, the Infinity uses an Omega core, but NOT for warp travel. It is a core that is used to power all of the ships systems. The core is sealed and is self sustaining.....the containment field is maintained by the core itself.

Still I have to question the use of an Omega molecule, after Armada and Voyager's "The Omega Directive."

the omega particle is a highly unstable molecule of allmost limitless energy, and in the voyager episode 7 of 9 managed to stabilise omega while trying to destroy it, with this knowledge the federation could potentually learn to safely use the omega particle, especially in desperate times when earth has been taken over

Well, on desperate times, desperate measures should be taken. But if an federation ship containing the omega particle is attacked and destroyed, BOOOOOOOM!!!!!! and there goes half-quadrant away....

She didnt do it on purpose. It was a random occurence.
But as Ravens story isnt hardly canon he can make up any story he likes about how the ship uses omega. So guys I dont think we need to get too far off topic.

The point is the military takes more chances. Remember, this is the Federation Marine Corps, NOT Starfleet. Starfleet is much more safety oriented, whereas the Third Fleet takes more chances in the line of duty.
The core is self sustaining, but yes, there is still a risk. That's what military life is all about.

Note to others. I have my back-up disc with this model on it. I'll try to ftp the thing up sometime soon for everyone to look at if they're allowed.

Sorry for cutting in late, but yes, it's way off.
the images posted by Gareth of the side on show the original diagram to have a sloping effect on the front of ths ship. It should be dipping down. the way it is at the moment, it just looks like too much of a generic leviathan.
although the detail iscoming along fantasticaly.

The overall shape is difficult to correct. I could do it if I kept it just as basic polygons (>5000 sort of in-game standard) but then the detail and accuracy would suffer later on since I would have next to nothing to work with. Probably my fault sicne I can't model properly.

Well, here is my suggestion. The problem is the hangardeck to the rear is about 10 decks too far to ventral. It needs to go up about 10 decks, and the bulge on the nose needs to be more of a slope. The action of both should create the forward slope needed. The tail is also a bit too long, and so is the nacelles.
Now, for the bottom, the rear and front of the belly bulge needs to be trimmed to more of a wedge shape. There is a slight concave curve inward to the rear.
Doing both would bring the model into proper shape. NOTE that the horizontal plane of the ship has not changed....only the shape of the hangar and the navigational array.

Right, I'll have to upload it and you guys can have a pop at it. I'm in semi-retirement now since moving to uni.
Though I'm not sure if I can change the shape that much from what I remember of how the polygons are set out. Like I said, I can't model properly so it was never built to take extreme changes at a late stage.

It has similar things, such as using falloff which changes the amount of influence a tool has (such as move and scale) across a distance. Though that'll crash my computer trying to do it on the whole thing simultaneously. Plus, getting all the individual objects to stay meshed will be near impossible.
Textures and surfaces are lost in .3DS though.

I'm not exactly sure if my opinion matters, but i think that the ship is a great concept but needs regesigning. What i really don't like in the way the underside of the ship extends low like that it makes me think that it's upsidedown. Then i think since it's supposed to be a moving starbase that it should be waaay bigger like almost 10 thousand meters mong and about 1500 meters wide it will make it way other ships like the Sovreign can actually go inside of the ship for repairs and things like that. And then i think instead of having the forward part of the ship extend down have it extend up it would look better. then make it look more like a starfleet vessel the way you have it now with no windows makes it look more like a Klingon vessel with federation colors. then after the physical adjustsments, for the technical things i would have a huge qauntity of Photon, Quantun and Transphasic torpedoes for that warship/starbase feel. then also have tons of phaser strips all around the ship. let it have Ablative Armor like in Voyager's final episode Endgame. for when it may have to go up against a fleet of Romulans or something. technically i would just make this thing an all out warship.
