Ok, this has so many pics it needs a new thread. This is simply another take on the Paladin, a medium cruiser if you will. Note that the changes are extreme....a removal or resizing of the saucer, shield generators, removal of the sensor pallet and shuttlebay (it is now integrated) and the addition of movable nacelles.

If the Paladin is the battleship, this would be the destroyer. Here are the pics, it is a little more my style and a little less "trekkie"

Looks very Bird-of-Prey-like, especially with the moveable nacelles, comparing with the moveable wings. And I think that the saucer should be MUCH wider than it is now, it looks far to small in comparison with the 'secondary' hull. And the gap is much too big. I loved the first version of the Paladin, this is just not my taste.

It reminds me of the Klingon Bird of Prey, as well. It looks wicked with the nacelles up! Very nice.

Now that gamesfunk pointed it out, I agree that the saucer should be larger. I'd go wider, like the Galaxy Class (but don't make the saucer look the same as a Galaxy Class, of course).

I think its a very good design and a new concept for the feds although the Intrepid did have movable nacelles. I agree with the general ideas, the 'saucer' section should be perhaphs a bit larger maybe deeper. The nacelles are a great design but i think that the gap is abit large between the nacelle struts is far to wide... it makes it look like theres something missing.
If you had connecting pylons or perhaphs a flat section between the two struts that was of the same hieght as the struts but not as long. if you catch my drift. I think that the way it is now makes it look to spindly to be a heavy cruiser. With a little more bulk between the struts it would look more menacing. Try it out and see what you think.
Also you might think of putting like pulse cannons on the nacelles to make it more BOPish. Of course if you dont want the BOP look then you should make it more bulky.
Just my thoughts!

I just looked at the side view of the ship with the nacelles up. I think the nacelles are way to thin. The profile of the nacelles looks good, though.

Just a thought.

I have to say that I'm not too fond of the gap between the nacelles. I think your should add the weapon pod back to this version, and maybe fill the gap a bit by extending the sauser back some. Don't eliminate the gap tho, because I like the overall look of it. Also, the sauser would look better if it were wider. I partialy agree with Phaser, that the nacelles are too thin. Try increasing their size by 1.5 to 2 times their current size, and I think they'd look alot better. Thats my nit picky comments for ya.

Hmm, well it's different, that's for sure. I do prefer the other version though, by quite a margin. There's something about the gap area that just looks wrong to me.

I know what you mean - it reminded me of a very old playstation one game called dogem arena, but in a good way. It looks quite 'nimble' with the gap. its definately growing on me

Yes, the gap is important. Lets just say the intention was to create a lighter version of the Paladin. If I added a rollbar and widened the saucer, it would be the Paladin after all.

This ship is similar in size, but is built to be a fast interceptor, whereas the Paladin is more of a mainline capital ship.

In that case wouldnt it be a good idea to make the ship shorter? The nacelle struts seem to serve no usefull purpose. Having a longer nacelle strut just leaves more target for the enemy to shoot at!

Yeah that makes sense. What if the hull sections were shortened, and the nacelle struts were to sweep backward instead of forward? Then it would even look faster.

That's not a bad idea. That would satisfy the issue brought up by USS Equinox.

I was concerned with the previous post by USS Equinox. While he brings up a good point, if the struts were eliminated this ship would probably end up looking like a cross between the Norway, Akira, and Sabre classes, rather than an original design.

My suggestion was not to eliminate the struts but simply to shorten them.

Its a little odd looking, but it's better than the spoon and two fork designs you've been cranking out lately.

Yes, well, two critics I have on either side of the spectrum are Starforce and Mike. Mike only likes my non-raditional designs....he hates TOS and TMP and thinks that anything standard is basically junk.

Starforce on the other hand hates TNG, DS9 and VOY and is a TOS and TMP man. He does not like wierd designs, prefers traditional stuff, and hates most of my work as a result.

At any rate, if I want a design to be more traditional, I find out if Mike hates it...if he does it is on track. Same if I want something original...if Starforce hates it it is perfect.

I laughed out loud when I read "Mike only likes my non-raditional designs..." I agree: those non-raditional designs rock! Laughing (I'm sure you meant non-traditional)

That's a nice scale you've got, there.

I didn't know starforce2 was a TOS and TMP guy.

I think it looks a bit like an Akiraway kitbash sort of ship. Norway Nacelles with Akira saucer.

Why call this the Paladin-Class when it's just a (post) TNG era "Akira-Class, Mark X". I like the variable geometry nacelle concept, but I'm just suggesting a possible docking with a variety of pods in the absence of the usual Akira-Class overhead pod. Maybe add some cylindrical cargo pods like the old Ptolemy-Class (& some Excelsior-Class varients), or some refit Oberth-style humanitarian mission modules.
