Post Posted: 05-10-2005 06:27 PM Post subject: KDF Brel ma'veQ (Warrior's Blade) class Fighter concept WIP

Here is a small fighter for the Klingons....I'm working on fixing the Conqueror and the Qonos 1, and I happened across this mesh I had done about a month ago. It is still in the very early stages.

The cannons and underpinnings are borrowed from the BOP....they will be replaced with something more original, but I needed them as templates. Otherwise it is new. I am shooting for around 22 meters or so, with room for three up front....cramped. This is a small ship.

She will probably have a single micro-torp launcher in the nose and the two cannons, and that is it. The ship would be very nimble of course, and have pretty good armor for it's class, but suffer from poor shielding and low warp speed.....and range would be limited.

At any rate, just thought I would post pics of this in its current condition for opinions. I might even texture this one.

Update: I decided to up the size a bit, to around 55 meters or so, and redo part of the story to fit in this model. It is turning out so well that someone in the office suggested it looks like what the Brel class BOP SHOULD have looked like.....and that gave me an idea.

What if this is a refit of the original Brel class scout? I tried playing around with giving the ship some actual BOP parts, and it worked for the most part. I think with some tweaking I could make a viable looking Brel from this mesh.

Now, my contention would be that the Brel you saw on the screen (TNG, etc.), the smaller (55m) BOP shown was actually not exactly like the Kvort. You were seeing things. This is what the Brel actually looked like...or rather this is what the current refit looks like. My challenge will be to create a modification of this that will resemble the Kvort at a distance, and I think I can do that.

At any rate, new pics are posted.

me likes...what about building in a front window like on the peregrine fighters since the two vessels are fulfilling almost the same role?

Yes, the red front area is the cockpit window. It is very crude at the moment, but that is where it is located. It will be rebuilt later.

As I said, this is a very crude begining....I may slim down the front even more, or remove the wings on the sides of the cockpit, so any critique is welcome. I like the wings and the warp coils (on the back of the wings) but I am iffy about the cockpit.

The real problem is that Klingons really do not have have a small ship style. When you try do something that looks Klingon, it tends to look Romulan.

I like her, she has great lines, and she looks perfectly Klingon, but with a up to date twist, i would go for her being about 100 meters, but thats just me.

Ok, added alot more detail, I still have work to do on the greebles, I want to make this ship completely detailed. At the very least the details can present a good template for the textures, but the model will be too big for BC as it stands....a mesh mechanic will have to tone it down. At any rate, here are the latest pics.

Wow. I really like those "fins" that you added near the impulse engine. The dotted circle around the torpedo launcher is a nice touch, too. This is just awesome.

Razz Two's a crowd. If it's got more then 1 guy in it, it's 1 guy too many. True fighters are single-seat! With only a few exceptions, of course.

It's a fighter, so it's much smaller than a Valdore or the Schimitar.

Hey, now. The PRV V-6 was a good, reliable engine. But it could hardly move a DeLorean..so I doubt it'd move that.

I imagine you are talking about the box like items on the wings. They are the cloak warp coils, just a different design.

You're getting quite good now. Pass it on to someone so they can make it a full CG model.
