I'd go with the Slipstream technology from Andromeda... that is cool as hell in my opinion.

How about some DRUG induced travel!!!
Just munch on some SPICE and let your mind take you there.
Even the "Traveler" from TNG used mental wierdness to get around.

You should have jumpgates from B5 instead of hyperspace from B5. Hyperspace in B5 is a whole 'nother hellish universe, the jumpgates is what allows travel from normal space into hyperspace.
There's also Thirdspace, which is almost instantatneous travel from one point to another, but when the Vorlons built a gate to thirdspace, they discovered a super-powerful alien race that could easily kick their asses.

Just so you know, B5 Hyperspace and Star Wars hyperspace is practically the same thing. This from StarWars.com
Quote: |
The invention of the hyperdrive millennia ago is perhaps the single-most important development in galactic history, as it allowed for the Republic's growth and expansion. Early hyperdrives were limited in range and reliability. Thousands of years ago, ships would use hyperspace beacons and jump points to travel from system to system on specific routes. |
Personally, I think Hyperspace is the best overall, and the most consistant. The Falcon, at 0.5 past lightspeed, made it from Tatooine to the Alderaan system in a matter of hours..A distance greater then 70,000 lightyears. The SW Galaxy being 120,000 lightyears in diameter, and Tatooine being on the outer rim, Alderaan being at the galactic core.

It is the most convincing IMO, I've got a big SW galaxy poster on my wall, with the approximate journey times between the major planets.

Iconian Gateway. 'Nuff said.
I mean, come on, it gives you a PICTURE of where you'll end up! Can Hyperdrive do that? I think not. The Iconian Gateway is CNN and a Stargate all rolled into one.

I went with the Warp Drive from TOS to TMP but I don't see difference between the two TOS,TMP and TNG.Yes Hyperspace jump gates does look appealing in B5.

The difference is the warp scales. TOS and TNG are on different warp scales.
Hyperspace > Warp thou.
Exponentially faster, does not require any rare materials or huge, explosive cors to achieve, does not destroy the fabric of space/time. Hyperspace>*

Having now seen the new BSG, I can say that the FTL Drive used in it is pretty Cool

Fold technology from Macross is the fastest I've seen. Instant transportation anywhere, as long as you've got coords.
But overall, Hyperdrive from Star Wars. Tatooine to Alderaan in a matter of a few hours. A journey of some 70,000+ lightyears.
The DeathStar I's trip from Alderaan to Yavin, again, half way across the galaxy, took a few hours.
Novel says about the Rebel Fleet's trip from Sullest to Endor, halfway across the galaxy. 'All time was but an instant'.

I'm a fan of Stargates to be honest. I mean come on, Milky Way to Pegasus Galaxy pretty darn instantaneously. now that's fast.
The difference between Stargate hyperspace and B5 and SW hyperspace is that it's safe to use whatever route you want. SW and B5 you have to stick to the route and it's dangerous to do otherwise.

SW doesn't really have to stick to a route. They just have to make sure they don't hit anything. Which is fine, since the entire SW galaxy, all 120 lightyears of it, is mapped.
