But that's EXACTLY the idea. It's not a new saucer, as it's not a new ship.. It's the old saucers refitted as part of a battleship. |
Well, it may look better with textures then.

Nice work, but the saucer is too large. There is no need for that much room, unless it is a carrier.
For LC's concept..........a few things.
It looks good, best I've seen sofar, but it is still lacking something. Perhaps it is the neck that is throwing me off. Cant do anything about that though.
The saucer is actually new, the only thing needed is the right socket to fit the refit body. I would like to see an Ambassador type saucer maybe. And the warp engines should be part of the hull, perhaps on top, squarish, built into the deck somehow.
Now that I think about it, this works as a carrier.........the saucer becomes the hangar deck, with a large open area in front like on the saber. During combat it could separate, and the battle section defends the saucer section. Hmmm.......
At any rate, we need a new saucer instead of a rebuild of the old one. The body should be rebuild of the old one, however.

Originally I didn't like LC's design that greatly. Saucer looked kinda weird, but now after the latest updates the design is starting to grow on me. I agree with CaptainWolff however of how the phasers on the saucer should look. Would look better. Keep it up.

Hmm... a larger version of the Defiant with a galaxy saucer section shoved up its jacksie. Hmm, sounds crazy enough to work actually.
If you want to rebuild the saucer, "modernise" it so to speak. Add some throwbacks to the likes of the intrepid, defiant and sov (which are post TNG craft).

new saucer? Call me purist but that kind of turn this ship light off for me.
Also i don't like the idea of the integrated nacelles to the saucer.. i did something like that in my Regal class but not ever liked the result.
If you want i can upload the mesh to you take a try on what you expect.

Defiant as the captains yacht? Good idea that would be the equivalent to the blade of Kahless or the heart of Kahless.

If its gonig to be a comandship, then why not have some space in the sauser for an subspace antenna if fighting in a remote sector without any subspacerelaystations nearby to improve comunication with the infinity/neraest base

raven, the saucers dimensions are identical to the originals, and yes, as i described previously, the saucer section would contain a carrier element. its all written back in the thread. and the drawings have doodles of the three way split.

I like your ideas too Evamonkey, very muscular, but a little too muscular to fit with the other designs. What I would suggest for your designs is this.........try to meld the Sov and Galaxy together, give it an Ambassador-like saucer, and THEN give it a muscular edge, but don't go overboard.
If you know what I mean, give it a shot.

well, i think its pretty clear, that the current mod design wont be abandoned, nor should it. but im gonna model my galaxy varient at some point. as for the saucer, you just gotta trust me on this. The saucer shape is integral to the galaxy class . its that silhouette that defines her for me. when i do her, ill do her for free, with a smile. and if you dont like her then, ill alter look into alternate saucers. i just think your altering a first day on the job doodle so drastically is a little premature. im gonna worl up some photoshop renders next. to lock down hull colours etc. until then, i ask you to reserve judgement on her .

Well, here is another take. I intend to do more work on it...it is very blocky, lots of holes and errors, but it is coming along. The idea is to combine the Sov and the Galaxy, as a mid design point between the two. I would abandon the entire refit idea and just call this a new class...perhaps the Phoenix class.

Wow. Looks great. Hmmm. It does look like it can be in a class of its own. But still has a galaxy class look. Cant wait to see the final product.

the first time I saw it, I wasn't keen on it.
But now I've seen it again today, I think it'd be PERFECT! That is, once you've got the [literal] dents & creases out of it!
I especially like the 1st 3 pics of it.

Hmm, well, that looks a lot like Phoenix design, what is good, but you're right, it's not a galaxy class anymore... what i consider a pity.
I'll probably keep my design going in a paralel way and later you can sort out if you want it or not.

We are short on ships for the Feds, so anything good will be considered of course. Lets see what you guys got......
Update....changed the shape of the front edge, reshaped the body a bit. I also found some problems in the body, so there are lots of holes right at the moment. Just pretend it is hurricane damage.
