I know alot of websites do this, where they look for inactive accounts and delete them, because some of the first people to register only ahve 5 posts
Here are the benefits:
-Easier to go through the membership list
-more usernames available
-etc...

doing so would 'close the door' (and wipe out the history of) on the potential return of those people, no? i mean, while its likely to assume most of them are done here, why delete their accounts altogether, and their sigs / avvys / postcounts / registered date / etc etc...
it might be a good idea, but i dont think it really needs to be done...

i, for example, registered at KA forums over a year ago and made 2 posts that day, and hadnt been back since (for no real reason honestly...) i have recently started jumping back in there, and glad to see my old stuff there; such as an old avvy i used to use here way back when and such...
and i dont think we need make more work for the webmasters eh? people complain incessantly as it is when the site is down for maintanance...

I agree with jimmy, why erase history as it were? Besides, there could be some great modders out there who have left BCU, and decide to return someday

I suggested this idea ages ago to Lynx, but I don't think he got the go ahead.
It's important to remeber though that the majority of the 3000 odd members here are not real people but are in fact adbots shamlessly pimping people's sites

How about just deleting the accounts that have a zero post count? No harm if nothing is really lost. And if they really want to start posting, they can just create a new account.

Same, I second the second
ALso, if you made an account years ago, you most likely forget your password and create a new account ( at lease that happens to me) so if there are VERY inactive accounts (10 or less posts) when this website first started, then shouldn't we also delete them?

Just because people don't post doesn't mean that their accounts aren't being used. IIRC, you have to be registered in order to download anything from the "Mods and Downloads for BC" forum.

Or maybe there's a chance by asking them via mail. I don't know maybe that's a bit extra work but it may would work.

Yeah, like perhaps set up something like if someone hasn'y been using their account for like 6 months to a year, they get an e-mail explaining to them that if they don't continue to sign-in and visit, then their account will be deleted in like the next 30 days.
This way they have prior notice and have ample time to go and use/renew their account. If it ever was a bot, then no problem.

I'd sooner say 3 months or so prior to deletion.
I don't really see the fuss.
Delete the accounts that only post "real" spam (adverts and such).

It may just be that the membership list has become difficult to navigate.
KlingonAcademy.com uses a system whereby you can skip to the first A, the first B, the first C, the first R etc.
If that were implemented, there would'nt be such a problem.

yep. it doesn't take long to flip through the pages by post count before you get to some pretty small numbers. That being said, if the whole shindig requires more work than benefit that would come from it, then why do it?
