          | Well, since ST XI is now officially announced and as it seems to be yet another prequel, who would *you* (yes, I'm looking at YOU) cast for the roles as Kirk, Spock, Bones, Scotty and perhaps Kirk's father?
 fire away...

          | Well I wouldn't cast anyone and don't make a movie about at all. Star Trek 6 was a great ending for the orignal characters. But if they would go make a movie in the current era (24th century) At the Academy(sp) and make a bunch of friends and make it a good movie that will sail into a new series of those characters. Now that would be a good idea.

Seriously, I don't know...I more tend to agree with Micheal_Yar on this one. A Prequel is simply a very bad idea...

Question is... how can Kirk, Spock and McCoy all be going in the academy together? Their ages are totally different from each other, Spock I think even went to the Vulcan academy prior to joining Starfleet.

Ya but that isn't what i am saying. I am saying that they should make a movie of the 24th century with all new characters. And then make a serie based on that movie. Like we see Mike Joe and Christopher as cadet's on the academy dreaming of going to serve together on a ship and than make a serie of them serving together.

          | I have great hopes for this movie. I think it can be a really good dramatic revival for star trek if it's done carefully. JJ Abrams, if he also directs, seems to have a great ability for character development and interaction and that could lend itself to a movie that's not just action and special effects.
For Kirk, I think Jude Law might be a little old, but not too bad. he looks a bit like a young Kirk, and he's a fine actor.

For Spock, I honestly think that with some good make-up, Johnny Depp could pull it off fabulously.

However, JJ Abrams seems to exploit unknowns for his works, so it will be interesting to see what happens. I really think that it would be nice to see some star power lended to Star Trek tho.

          | As stated before, I do not think a new movie having it's beginning at the Academy would be a bad idea but somehow IMO it would work better in the 'future', say the 25th century.
We would get introduced to the all new situation right from the start along with those new cadets.
don't get me wrong, but Kirk and spock have had their days and Trek should move on.

          | meh, i'm honestly pessimistic about this.....but if handled well....who knows?
And IMO, the idea that this becomes a precursor to another series seems a decent one (mabye with some of the crewmembers as the main characters rather than the bridge crew? perhaps even a hazard team ala elite force?)

 i dunno...

          | OK, I have just heard on tonight's Attack of the Show, that none other than Private Ryan himself, Matt Damon, will be cast as Kirk.
Frankly, I think Matt is probably a good choice. Personally, I think he's an excellent actor. In addition his fame will add to the appeal of the upcoming film.

There was no news as to who might play Spock. But with Matt Damon as the lead, they are going to have a very tough time of casting that role to most Trekers satisfaction.
Nemoy was ( still is ) just so enigmatic and unique.

          | I think it has a good shot. Damon is a great actor, and part of the reason he's famous is for that reason. As a lifelong ST fan, I can easily overlook who the actor is and simply enjoy the character.

          | No no no no no. No. No no no.
Matt Damon as Kirk? You've got to be f*cking kidding me. That actor's characters always end up very similar due to Matt's personality (in other words, he's not a flexable actor). Damon as Kirk? No.

And Johnny Depp as Spock? When he lifts one eyebrow you won't be able to keep from laughing! Again, no.

Has this rumor actually been made official? I was under the impression that this plot for a movie "wasn't out of the question", but was by no means finalized. I pray that is the case, because if this is the new movie, it going to suck. Badly.

Ever since Roddenberry died, directors and producers have slowly forgetting what Star Trek is actually about, and the shows/movies have been reflecting that fact. I doubt Abrams is any different from the rest, and, just like Enterprise, we're in for another terrible, canon-disregarding (and thus non-Trek) production.

          | Like I said, it was reported as news on G4's Attack of the Show, and they wouldn't likely have said anything about it, if there was no truth to it.
 Anyway, I think Matt Damon has great range;
If you haven't seen them already, you should check out: Good Will Hunting, The Talented Mr Ripley, and the Bourne films.

Frankly, both he and Depp are frighteningly tallented, IMHO- and I don't often say that about pretty-boy actors.

As amazing as Depp is, I haven't heard anything about him as Spock. I'm almost sure he could pull it off, though I think he may be a bit too short to play that role.

Here's one for the sharks... How about Hugo Weaving as spock? Sort of a cross between Elrond, and Agent Smith, you know?

But the age difference between he and Damon might be a bit wrong. How old would Spock be, ( or appear to be ) if he and Kirk had met at the Academy?

          | I know, I know. It's just one of the many benefits of my unholy genius. Sure, it's unfair. But then again, so are blackholes, you know?
 Sometimes I frighten myself.

I am besieged by a thousand or more of the Mexicans under Santa Anna--I have sustained a continual Bombardment & cannonade for 24 hours & have not lost a man--The enemy has demanded a surrender at discretion, otherwise the garrison are to be put to the sword, if the fort is taken--I have answered the demand with a cannon shot, & our flag still waves proudly from the walls--I shall never surrender or retreat--If this call is neglected, I am determined to sustain myself as long as possible & die like a soldier who never forgets what is due to his own honor & that of his country--Victory or Death.

          | Well let's see. For Captain Kirk, I'm thinking Ice-T, and for Scotty, I'm thinking Vin Diesel, and for Mr. Spock - aahh yes - Larry the Cable Guy.

 Git-R-Done!

Honestly? I tend to agree with Michael_Yar also, I think the academy in the 24th or 25th centry would work. Not sure about actors...

But the idea to bring Kirk, Spock and McCoy back? I think is rediculous...

          | Can you really make an informed judgement on soemthing before you've actually seen it?
I know I certainly can't so I'm going to with hold my judgement.

Something I would like to see in the future though would be a more political intrigue based Star Trek series with back stabbign ahoy. Problem is it probably wouldn't be most people's cup of tea

 Your Brain's Pattern

Your mind is an incubator for good ideas, it just takes a while for them to develop.
But when you think of something, watch out!
Your thoughts tend to be huge, and they come on quickly - like an explosion.
You tend to be quiet around others, unless you're inspired by your next big idea.
