This is going to be a nastly one to render when its done if this engine is anything to go by. Roughly 18k at the moment. There'll be at least two of these by the time I'm done as main engines and then some. If I stick at it and do everything to this standard it will be my best model I think.

HOLY SH*T! That's the most detailed CG component I've ever seen! This will be great. Good luck, Armondikov!

Its not the most detailed I've seen, trust me. Try SFM or CGtalk.

And yes, it'll be an Ea fighter. Providing RC agrees with it. But he's going to be away for a bit so I reign suppreme!!! Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Mr. Green

Well, my BC2 files are on a disc I can't even find Mad

Anyway, did a little more. Firstly, for a space based figher craft, this is going to look remarkably like a normal jet fighter. I have several reasons for this.

1) Most of my source images are of real fighters. Google Images only brings up Star Wars stuff and that's NOT what I'm after. There's also the problem that SW is the only scifi to really feature fighters to a great extent. Most Hard SF ignore the concept altogether as it is completely pointless idea to have one manned fighters in space.

2) It looks better. A box with engines is the most practical thing. If anything, the engines on this should be completely covered. But i'm not going to make an interesting and decent looking model if I don't display a lot of good looking greebles and detail. Of note, these aren't pointless details, they're more or less copyied from a real vector controlled engine.

3) You have a fighter in space, odds are, at some point you may have to engage in a minute amount of atmospheric flight. Whether you're skimming through the clouds of a gas giant (which doesn't happen in Ea due to the magnetospheres) or ditching on a habitable planet. Well, that's my official excuse anyway, as much as it holds up.

Yes, that tool was quite useful in making the engines. I've done a small amount of greebles on the back panel of the fighter but I'm not sure if it works too well. The directional thrusters on this point are a neccessity as it is primarily for space flight.

Done a few more. These ones are a little dark but I'm just experimenting with the lighting while I'm at it.

And some wings. I'm about 50/50 on whether to keep these or replace them with a different idea. But I'll plough on and see how the rest of it pans out, there's plenty more to do.

Another excuse for wings. Heat sinks and radiation.

I like the design, I'll agree that the thing needs wings but not those wings, they look a bit out of place. the shape doesn't really look right

There's more to go on them. I'll mock up a basic outline of where I'm going and see if it works then. I should do it more often but I don't.

Here's one projection that I've thought about. Its not working as well as I thought but it could have some promise. I really want to avoid it looking like an F-14 (where I've sourced a lot of the detail and layout) but I want it to have some decent linage with what we have today as well as some obvious atmospheric capability and plenty of space for fuel and ordinance.

Or this one, which is a slight improvement although a much more straight forward and boring design, the kind that I'm never really fond of.

How about a large gun in the center and the cockpit either off to the side or sitting on top of it??

These are just mock ups of the hull. Weapons are going on later. Until then, one more design. Anyone have any favourites?

I was talking more of a large cannon of sorts that would be part of the main body where the cockpit connects to.... A10 style lol

But now to your question, I like the position of the cockpit in pic one but with the 2 things on the side of the wings in pic two and the small wing on the cockpit in pic 3 lol
