Did anyone have a problem running it on a Athlon64 X2 dual core system?
after install I turned it on and got an error with mentalray in the 3dsmax7
\mentalray folder it counted the number of cpus I had and said it couldnt
find base.mi,contour.mi,physics.mi,and the .dlls that go with those and
msxml.dll,subsurface.dll and a few others having to do with mentalray
and my views seem to be spelled wrong, like Perspective is Pcrspcctivc etc...I looked in that folder the files are there..
also the program takes abit to load, when I used it with my 1.8ghz comp
it didnt take forever to load.
also the install had no errors and the disk is clean so its not that.
I have the AMD dual-core optimizer installed(supposidly makes both cpus focus on one task at once)
with my system specs it shouldnt take ages to load, if those are needed ill provide.
any help is appreciated,thanks
PS: sorry this was supposed to be in the General section,I posted this thread after lack of sleep..any mods plz move this question there thanks.

It sounds like a problem occured while installing the program and not all the proper files were installed. I suggest you remove it and try again if you aready have not done so.
I have a dual core system and all I can say is that having said systems does help with mental ray renderings. Instead of one rendering square going around the image, there are now two, so in actuality, it doubles the rendering speed.
I have a AthlonX2 4200+
I personally have not encountered and problems like the ones you mentioned, except for the longer loading times for the program. I suspect for me though, It has more to do with the viewports being initilized for the first time at startup.

yeah I have reinstalled it twice(seems to be working now)..is there a way to change the settings back to OpenGL or the default setting(without reinstalling it again)?
like when you first open Max up it will ask that,I think thats the problem with the misspelled words,I have it set to Direct3D using DX9.
Im using an ATI 256meg X700pro card on these settings: AA(HD) is application decide, AdaptiveAA is on quality, AF is application decide, catalyst AI is on advanced,in the D3D API specific section: geometry instancing enabled,DXT texture format enabled, alternat pixel center enabled,OpenGL API specific: triple buffer enabled.
now I dont want to change those setting cause games run great, but any suggestions would be appreciated on changing the graphics settings in MAX or on my card.

Under the Customize menu select Prefrences.
Of the many tabs given to you to choose from, select Viewports and at the bottom of that window there should be a button that says "change driver" or change renderer or something along those lines.

heya bes... I noticed after patching max7, the BFF exporter doesn't work as well as it does BEFORE the patch. I'd suggest NOT patching if you can.
