Characters - Page 1

In the final game, Elixir hopes to have around a million different characters. One million.

What makes this even more amazing is the fact that every character will be personally programmed with daily routines (getting up, taking kids to school, shopping, going to church if they are religious, etc), different beliefs, and different personalities. All can be interacted with - hopefully.

The Elixir website states the following:

"Each person will have detailed daily routines that range from going to work, to collecting their kids from school, to doing their shopping and to voting in elections. Each individual will also have their own set of beliefs, emotions, skills and loyalties that govern their behaviour, producing consistent and realistic reactions to situations that arise in the game."

"(There will be) Thousands of factions, organisations and parties to subvert and control, each with their own goals and powers. Thousands of factors dictate how these groups will react to a player's actions. As a result, every game will be a different and exciting experience."

As you can see, details are still sketchy to say the least. But if Elixir can produce what they say they can produce, then we are in for a treat.

You start the game with one loyal friend, and must work up the rankings to finally overturn the president - this can only mean that good player/character interaction is available.

Alongside the general 'population' of characters, there have also been specially programmed characters which will more likely play an important role in aiding or fighting you. The President is, of course, one of these people, as are members of the police, religious factions, and other important townspeople. Very few details abound about specific characters, except to point out a comment made by Demis in one of his diaries:

"For those of you who care, the consensus (in the team) is that Cervantes - a character I constantly expect to launch devastating renditions of YMCA at any moment - is by far the best character in the game."

Demis has also said, in my interview with him, that the police chief in the game is actually based on Ian Livingstone, the head of Eidos!
